What Nicholas Kristoff Thinks and Writes. More Tyranny from the Left

I have heard from reliable conservatives that Mr. Kristoff is a decent guy………a superficial, limited writer and devoted to Leftwing theology.  I admit that I am passing on a rumor, but for years I did subscribe to the New York Times and found his commentary vapid.

However he is well respected, for after all, he has been an opinionist at the Times for a long, long time.  What does he think of the long, hot summer, America’s summer of discontent to the establishment Leftwing, black or white?

“A radio interviewer asked me the other day if I thought bigotry was the only reason why someone might oppose the Islamic center in Lower Manhattan. No, I don’t. Most of the opponents aren’t bigots but well-meaning worriers — and during earlier waves of intolerance in American history, it was just the same.

Screeds against Catholics from the 19th century sounded just like the invective today against the Not-at-Ground-Zero Mosque. The starting point isn’t hatred but fear: an alarm among patriots that newcomers don’t share their values, don’t believe in democracy, and may harm innocent Americans.

Followers of these movements against Irish, Germans, Italians, Chinese and other immigrants were mostly decent, well-meaning people trying to protect their country. But they were manipulated by demagogues playing upon their fears — the 19th- and 20th-century equivalents of Glenn Beck.

Most Americans stayed on the sidelines during these spasms of bigotry, and only a small number of hoodlums killed or tormented Catholics, Mormons or others. But the assaults were possible because so many middle-of-the-road Americans were ambivalent.

Suspicion of outsiders, of people who behave or worship differently, may be an ingrained element of the human condition, a survival instinct from our cave-man days. But we should also recognize that historically this distrust has led us to burn witches, intern Japanese-Americans, and turn away Jewish refugees from the Holocaust.

Perhaps the closest parallel to today’s hysteria about Islam is the 19th-century fear spread by the Know Nothing movement about “the Catholic menace.” One book warned that Catholicism was “the primary source” of all of America’s misfortunes, and there were whispering campaigns that presidents including Martin Van Buren and William McKinley were secretly working with the pope. Does that sound familiar?

Critics warned that the pope was plotting to snatch the Mississippi Valley and secretly conspiring to overthrow American democracy. “Rome looks with wistful eye to domination of this broad land, a magnificent seat for a sovereign pontiff,” one writer cautioned.

Historically, unreal suspicions were sometimes rooted in genuine and significant differences. Many new Catholic immigrants lacked experience in democracy. Mormons were engaged in polygamy. And today some extremist Muslims do plot to blow up planes, and Islam has real problems to work out about the rights of women. The pattern has been for demagogues to take real abuses and exaggerate them, portraying, for example, the most venal wing of the Catholic Church as representative of all Catholicism — just as fundamentalist Wahabis today are caricatured as more representative of Islam than the incomparably more numerous moderate Muslims of Indonesia (who have elected a woman as president before Americans have).

In the 19th century, fears were stoked by books written by people who supposedly had “escaped” Catholicism. These books luridly recounted orgies between priests and nuns, girls kidnapped and held in secret dungeons, and networks of tunnels at convents to allow priests to rape nuns. One woman claiming to have been a priest’s sex slave wrote a “memoir” asserting that Catholics killed boys and ground them into sausage for sale.

These kinds of stories inflamed a mob of patriots in 1834 to attack an Ursuline convent outside Boston and burn it down.

Similar suspicions have targeted just about every other kind of immigrant. During World War I, rumors spread that German-Americans were poisoning food, and Theodore Roosevelt warned that “Germanized socialists” were “more mischievous than bubonic plague.”

Anti-Semitic screeds regularly warned that Jews were plotting to destroy the United States in one way or another. A 1940 survey found that 17 percent of Americans considered Jews to be a “menace to America.”

Chinese in America were denounced, persecuted and lynched, while the head of a United States government commission publicly urged in 1945 “the extermination of the Japanese in toto.” Most shamefully, anti-Asian racism led to the internment of 110,000 Japanese-Americans during World War II.

All that is part of America’s heritage, and typically as each group has assimilated, it has participated in the torment of newer arrivals — as in Father Charles Coughlin’s ferociously anti-Semitic radio broadcasts in the 1930s. Today’s recrudescence is the lies about President Obama’s faith, and the fear-mongering about the proposed Islamic center.

But we have a more glorious tradition intertwined in American history as well, one of tolerance, amity and religious freedom. Each time, this has ultimately prevailed over the Know Nothing impulse.

Americans have called on moderates in Muslim countries to speak out against extremists, to stand up for the tolerance they say they believe in. We should all have the guts do the same at home.”

Comment:  You see what Muslims and the American Democrat and other “Leftist” are up against in this terrible nation called America.  How can the country survive such conservatives?

Well, start with scare tactics and smearing to put an end to this conservative blood line.   Then, if that doesn’t work,  fire the five people at American universities who are conservative and close down Dennis Prager and talk radio channels.  Burn the Wall Street Journal opinion pages and arrest Tom Sowell for being an oreo……not a real American black.

If there are still some longings and lingerings lasting against the Left, short change all of them with denying them Obamacare.

Cynthia Tucker and The Black Party Line About the Browning of America

Americans should understand the most important fact about the American black  inner city base and its reporters, there is nothing democratic about the community;  there is nothing free about its political expression.  Its culture is twenty first century plantation, except for much higher criminal rate  that at most plantations of the past.

Cynthia Tucker is a  reporter representative of this 21st Century black American culture.  You read one, you read them all.

Many white Americans were shocked when Jeremiah Wright’s “Goddamn America” church in Chicago, candidate for president, Barack Hussein Obama’s church for 22 years, was exposed on American television as the racist institution is really was.

It is my contention this is black America education common of the inner city and Black Studies Departments at American universities all around the country.   It has been for a long time.  And it is so in black America in residue in those areas where the culture has been pushed into enclaves in American suburbs.

Since the mid 1960s the great so called “advance” of the acceptance of black America in the  nation’s broader, freer, less politically corrupt world of the American dream, has been the creation and multiplication  of thousands of sociopathic gangs both criminal and political and their blendings, stoked with the fire of racism and the lies that go with it.  Its leaders who nourish this disease in the political arena are tools of the American Leftwing.   Ms. Tucker and nearly all of the other reporters  writing something about American black attitudes are their mouthpieces.

You read one, you read them all.

So what are the Tuckers writing about this American summer of discontent?   If you have been paying attention to these matters over the past 50 years, you shouldn’t  be surprised.

Ms. Tucker writes:

“What a weird summer!

Average Americans, normally sober-minded citizens, came undone over exaggerated threats and imagined enemies; rallied here by the thousands to “restore honor;” and denounced mosques, minority rights and the 14th Amendment — all the while demanding strict adherence to the U.S. Constitution.

This is a tempestuous and irrational time, an era of economic gloom, eroding living standards and deep fears about the future. But economic uncertainty alone cannot account for this summer’s strange currents. The runaway inflation and  deep recession of the late ‘70s/early ‘80s didn’t produce a similar season of civic craziness.

Our long, hot summer needed another ingredient to induce a fever-like madness in the national psyche: demographic change. Over the last year and a half, many Americans have begun to see a deeper message in President Obama’s inauguration — the end of the white majority. For some,  especially those who are middle-aged and older, it’s a jarring and unwelcome message.

Before you assume that I’m stereotyping all of the president’s critics as racists, let me be clear: I’m not. Many voters have legitimate criticisms of the Obama’s policies. I’ m talking about something more subtle and yet more profound: a fear of minority status. (Actually, by the year 2050, demographers expect that whites will be a “plurality,” the largest easily- identified ethnic group.)

Most human beings are more comfortable surrounded by others who look and sound as they do. It’s innate. That’s why most of us attend churches, join clubs and look for friends who reinforce our sense of identity, usually along lines of color and class. Successful black and brown professionals have had to learn to be comfortable in a sea of white faces, but most white Americans have not experienced the reverse. And many are not eager to have that experience.

While some prognosticators were naïve enough to believe that Obama’s election signaled the beginning of a post-racial era, it prompted something altogether different: a backlash against the browning of America. The winds of resentment would have blown in even if the economy were booming, but an anemic recovery provided the perfect fuel for a summer of discontent.

Timing is everything. Just as many Americans came to understand that the nation they knew was undergoing a dramatic demographic change, the economy collapsed. Unable to account for the disappearance of jobs and financial security, they linked those developments as cause and effect. The backlash is now at gale force.

So we’ve seen a summer of fury over illegal immigration, despite the fact that illegal border-crossings have plunged in the last two or three years, according to a new study by the Pew Hispanic Center. Islamophobia spiked as conservatives made a case against a proposed Islamic center two blocks from Ground Zero, claiming that it would represent a victory for jihadists. It didn’t seem to matter that the imam proposing the center has publicly denounced jihadists.

The birthers picked up the support of a retired three-star Air Force general, Thomas McInerney, who filed an affadit in support of Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin. Lakin, an Army doctor, faces a court martial for refusing to report for duty in Afghanistan because, he says, Obama isn’t a citizen and, therefore, can’t be commander-in-chief. And, just for good measure, nearly 20 percent of Americans now believe the president is Muslim — despite the 2008 controversy over his then-pastor, Jeremiah Wright.

To drain the vicious energy from the backlash, the nation needs a broad economy recovery — not just jobs but also good wages that will support a middle-class lifestyle. There would still be those among us who resent the changing face of America, but there would be less anxiety, less fear and less anger.

The return of broad prosperity would restore faith in the animating idea behind the American Dream: the promise of opportunity for all. That faith is fading right now, and citizens who ought to know better are looking for scapegoats. Those who call God “Allah” are easy targets. So are those who say “Dios.”

Comment:  There we have it……the message according to the establishment American black brain.  It is the same message throughout this community.  It is a message of tyrants.

Is the American black communitydumb enough to believe it is the race factor that makes Mr. Obama so distasteful to this conservative movement now moving through the nation’s communities?  If it is, here’s proof that a masterful lie is far more persuasive than an eternal truth.

If it is the only message this community is taught to believe, these Americans are indeed, dumb enough to believe this vile, incessantly repeated lie.

One of the greatest modern American thinkers today is Thomas Sowell, a well known conservative  economist and  social critic.  He  is an American who happens to be black.  He is also gifted in being pleasant, bright,  and very winsome.

Ms. Cynthia Tucker is an American black who happens to be unAmerican.  Her racism makes her very unpleasant and very unwinsome.

Do any American blacks of any community really believe that this summer’s conservative revival arises from its worries about race?   If so, it reflects the enormous gap in education and understanding among America’s blacks.  If not, the Cynthia Tuckers are liars…..and unworthy of representing modern American blacks.

It is unfortunate that Mr. Sowell is an intellectual conservative rather than a political activist conservative.    Otherwise he could become the most popular hero in today’s America, in any neighborhood.

America needs a Thomas Sowell to begin to take down the “Berlin Wall” imprisoning the minds and bodies of the Leftwing establishment’s dictatorship over the American black.

Ms. Tucker would then be seen for the racist she is.
