Obama, the Devalued President Who Has Devalued His Country!!

A few years ago Daniel Hannan, a member of the European Parliament gave one of the most powerful attacks against the Marxist Gordon Brown and his programs of  well, doing what Barack Obama has scheduled for America, and has already engineered in part…..spending tax payers’ money to fatten his Marxist backers in the unions and victimhood groups, not only plunging the nation into  greater debt but reducing the private sector’s ability to increase income, the only sector able to increase the country’s wealth.

Do you think this college-kid Barack Hussein Obama has ever heard such clarity of language exposing so clearly Obama’s Marxist failures which are identical to those of Gordon Brown’s?    Have you, dear reader.  Have a listen….

Click here to hear Daniel Hannan:        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lW6Y4tBXs

Mr. Obama is as guilty of Marxist solution failures  as was Gordon Brown.  What did Mr. Hannan accuse Mr. Brown of that Marxist Obama hasn’t also befouled in America with  the same crippling results…enormously greater debt and more unemployment and less democracy?

Unfortunately,  I can’t think of any Republicans articulate enough to challenge our socialist-confused president as Mr. Hannan explained the politicsand failures  of Mr. Gordon Brown.

Just Who The Hell Do You Think You People Are? UKs Nigel Farage Asks the EU Marxist Bureaucrats!

Hey, Prager Folks, this is good stuff…..Roger Kimball analyzes America’s future by exposing  the actions of the European Union…..made up of politicians the people of each country do not elect.    Nigel Farage made our blog site yesterday, true, but Roger adds some salt to our wounds here:

“Here’s a typical headline from the Associated Press today:

“Debt turmoil, contagion fears sweep Europe.”

Yikes. Yesterday it was Greece: they’re in debt to the tune of $175 billion, Now that may seem like small potatoes in the age of Barack “the sky’s the limit” Obama. But keep in mind that there only about 11 million Greeks.

175,000,000,000 / 11,000,000 = 15,909,000

In other words, every little Zeus and Hera  starts out owing more than $15 million.

Of course, Greece will never pay back this money. In the time honored custom of Third World nations  across the globe, it will default.

But now it looks like the habit may be catching. Yesterday it was Greece, today it is Ireland — remember the “Irish tiger”?  Turns out it was an inflatable pussy cat: pumped full of gas by artificially low interest rates underwritten by the EU.

And tomorrow?   Well, Portugal is choking under debt that is $325 percent of its GDP. Of course, Portuguese officials say they won’t be seeking a bail out. But that was what Ireland said a couple of weeks ago, too.  Let’s see.

And what about the day after tomorrow? “Analysts,” quoth that AP story, “say markets need more reassurance from EU leaders that the rot can be stopped in Portugal before spreading to Spain, the continent’s fourth-largest economy — a scenario that would threaten the 16-nation euro currency itself.”

Want to open a book on that?

Now, the money situation is bad, very bad.  But worse news concerns politics, in particular the fate of freedom and democracy in Europe.

The European project has always been a game played by unelected political elites and foisted on the people.  When EU leaders couldn’t get the Lisbon treaty, a.k.a. the European Constitution ratified by a popular vote, they did what any sensible totalitarian would do: they circumvented the people and declared the treaty passed.

Enter Nigel Farage. Who is Nigel Farage?  He is a  former Conservative British politician who left the party in 1992 when John Major’s government signed on to the Maastricht Treaty, thereby selling out a large measure of British sovereignty. Mr. Farage is now leader of UKIP, the United Kingdom Independence Party, as  well as a Member of the European Parliament for South East England.

I had not know about Mr. Farage until a friend sent me a link to an  extraordinary speech he gave yesterday  at a meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Partly an economic fire alarm, the deeper message of Mr. Farage’s speech concerns the way EU politicians are deliberately  subverting democracy — removing, in Mr. Farage’s words, “any remaining traces of democracy form the system”—in order to keep the dream of a European superstate alive.

Looking around at the faces of his fellow ministers, he saw fear and anger: the whole European project seemed to be unraveling.  Their response?  Double down. Herman Van Rompuy, the Belgian one-worlder who is the first long-term President of the European Council, i.e., the EU, came to power last December asserting that the idea of national sovereignty otiose, a bad holdover from a discredited past.

The problem is, Mr. Farage pointed out, that people all over Europe are waking up and saying “we don’t want this, we don’t want [the EU] flag, we don’t want the anthem, we don’t this political class, we want the whole thing consigned to the dust bin of history.”

And the response by the EU bureaucrats who run things?  Well, Ireland was told that it would be inappropriate from them to have a general election; they had to agree on a budget first. Mr. Farage had the perfect response to this effrontery: “Just who the hell do you  think you people are?  You are very, very  dangerous people indeed. Your obsession with creating this Euro state means that you are happy to destroy democracy.”

Mr. Farage got it in one: the political crisis facing Europe may be exacerbated by the domino like collapse of the economies of the member states.  But the critical issue is the future of democracy, that is the future of freedom.  It is “more serious than economics,” Mr. Farage argued, “because if you rob people of their identity, if you rob them of democracy, then all they are left with is nationalism and violence.  I can only hope and pray that the Euro project is destroyed by the markets before that really happens.”

Europe is very, very lucky to have politicians like Nigel Farage. (Daniel Hannan is another such.)  The question is: are they too late?”

Roger Kimball mentions Daniel Hannan as another gift from the UK to the European Union….For his very famous dress down of Gordon Brown, then Prime Minister of Great Britain, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lW6Y4tBXs

Don’t you think these Englishmen speak English expertly?    I wonder if they would catch Barack Obama’s attention if they or persons like them would address his majesty, the President, as well as they addressed matters in these videos.

Democrats and Their President Are At Sea. Cannot Sell Their Marxist Agenda Yet

Michael Gerson of the Washington Post writes this article regarding the tones various Leftwing pundits express regarding the condition of the Obama leadership and the Democrat Party, “None Dare Call It Desperation”.

“Following two years of poor economic performance and electoral repudiation, liberalism is casting around for narratives to explain its failure — narratives that don’t involve the admission of inadequacies in liberalism itself.

For some, the solution is to lay the blame on President Obama. He hasn’t been liberal enough. He can’t communicate. “I cannot recall a president,” says Robert Kuttner in the Huffington Post, “who generated so much excitement as a candidate but who turned out to be such a political dud as a chief executive.” Obama is “fast becoming more albatross than ally”.

This is an ideological movement at its most cynical, attempting to throw overboard its once-revered leader to avoid the taint of his problems.

But there is an alternative narrative, developed by those who can’t shake their reverence for Obama. If a president of this quality and insight has failed, it must be because his opponents are uniquely evil, coordinated and effective. The problem is not Obama but the ruthless conspiracy against him.

So Matt Yglesias warns the White House to be prepared for “deliberate economic sabotage” from the GOP — as though Chamber of Commerce SWAT teams, no doubt funded by foreigners, are preparing attacks on the electrical grid. Paul Krugman contends “Republicans want the economy to stay weak as long as there’s a Democrat in the White House.” Steve Benen explains, “We’re talking about a major political party … possibly undermining the strength of the country — on purpose, in public, without apology or shame — for no other reason than to give themselves a campaign advantage in 2012.” Benen’s posting was titled, “None Dare Call it Sabotage.”

So what is the proof of this charge? It seems to have something to do with Republicans criticizing quantitative easing by the Federal Reserve. And opposing federal spending. And, according to Benen, creating “massive economic uncertainty by vowing to gut the national health care system.”

One is tempted to respond that it is a trillion dollars in new debt, the prospect of higher taxes and a complicated, disruptive health reform law that have created “massive economic uncertainty.” For the purposes of this argument, however, it is sufficient to say that all these economic policy debates have two sides.

Yet this is precisely what the sabotage theorists must deny. They must assert that the case for liberal policies is so self-evident that all opposition is malevolent. But given the recent record of liberal economics, policies that seem self-evident to them now seem questionable to many. Objective conditions call for alternatives. And Republicans are advocating the conservative alternatives — monetary restraint, lower spending, lower taxes — they have embraced for 30 years.

It is difficult to overstate how offensive elected Republicans find the sabotage accusation, which Obama himself has come very close to making. During the run-up to the midterm election, the president told a town hall meeting in Racine, Wis.: “Before I was even inaugurated, there were leaders on the other side of the aisle who got together and they made the calculation that if Obama fails, then we win.” Some Republican leaders naturally took this as an attack on their motives. Was the president really contending that Republican representatives want their constituents to be unemployed in order to gain a political benefit for themselves? No charge from the campaign more effectively undermined the possibility of future cooperation.

The sabotage accusation, once implicit, is now direct among panicked progressives. Part of the intention seems to be strategic — to discourage Obama from considering Clintonian ideological triangulation. No centrist concessions, the argument goes, will appease Republicans who hate the president more than they love the country. So Obama should double down on liberalism, once again.

It is very bad political advice. It also indicates a movement losing contact with political reality. When an ideology stumbles, its adherents can always turn to alcohol — or to conspiracy theories. It is easier to recover from alcohol. Conspiracy thinking is not only addictive, it is tiresome. It precludes the possibility of interesting policy debate or genuine disagreement — how can you argue with a plot?

In 1964, John Stormer, a sabotage theorist of the right, came out with the book “None Dare Call it Treason,” which asked: “Is there a conspiratorial plan to destroy the United States into which foreign aid, planned inflation, distortion of treaty-making powers and disarmament all fit?” Stormer’s progressive descendants are just as discrediting to the ideas they claim to serve.”

Comment:  Paranoids like Paul Krugman so frequently accuse opponents for plots and smears they themselve concoct.  I challenge anyone to compare the devious Left with anything comperable among the conservatives thses days.  My argument is simple…..the conservatives at this point in history have by all measures the best collections of argument and facts to support their conservative cause.  Their main wall to scale is to publicize their goals and reasons for them.  The Left is void of winsome truths to offer today’s American voter and must rely on deviant tactics….smears,  threats, trumping up tribal suspicions and racism, lies and on ad infinitum.

Marxism is not a popular idea among free peoples.   Dems know this, but college-kid Obama is determined to enact the bigotries he absorbed at university, the only community he really identifies with…..the Leftists as his instructors.  He is stone deaf to American values, because he has never lived them or been a part of them…..He is the first foreigner ever to occupy the Whtie House and lacks anything adult and wise  to help him adjust.  Nor, in his present character, is he capable of listening, apparently.

We must not forget who his father figure has been, Jeremiah “Goddamn America” Wright.  That Obama distrusts things American is a given.   Every American should therefore distrust this president.

Barack Hussein Obama Admitting He Visited Most of America’s 57 States

One of the reasons Obama lovers  hale the president as such an extraordinary smart president is that the media censors his stupidities from the public.   This college-kid president without his teleprompter and pompous glances over his subjects, without his script and gardments carefully groomed, stutters and stammers.

This college kid attended Jeremiah “Goddamn America” Wright’s church in Chicago for twenty two years.  Barack Hussein Obama claimed Jeremiah Wright was his father figure.  He also claime he had never hears such words working their way out of the Wright mouth.   Please click on below to revive  your memory about who  Obama’s  father figure and racist  preacher for 22 years, Jeremiah  Wright is:    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617eK2XIaLk

Folks, either his is stupid or he is a liar.   The president also did not know how many states comprised the United States….click on the video here:

The college-kid president is a facade of a president.

What Do Obama-Pelosi-Reid Have in Store for America during Lame Duck?

A lame duck session is thrust upon the American citizen.  The Obama-Pelosi- Reid show has a few more weeks of morbidity to thrust upon the nation.  This trio has announced that is has not been affected by the November 2, 2010 elections.

Head morbidity deliverer, Obama, claimed the election results  came from his lack of salesmanship…..his product was what the people wanted, but the advertising part of it went awry.   He would fix the problem asap.

Harry Reid has declared the most important piece of legislation is to approve some law which will legalize enough illegal immigrants  to re-elect Marxist Obama in 2012 and expand his victimhood collectives to expand leftwing control of as much of America as possible.

David Frum, an establishment Republican expressed his views about the Obama lefty agenda in the coming weeks, writing the following article at This Week:

“What should the Democrats do with their final weeks of majority status in the House of Representatives?

Should they work to renew middle-income tax cuts, as promised? Should they begin to act on the recommendations of the president’s deficit reduction commission? Or should they ignite a massive unwinnable fight over amnesty for illegal aliens?

If you guessed the third option, congratulations: You qualify for a job on the staff of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Reid survived the 2010 election in great part due to the votes of Nevada Latinos. As a thank you, he announced last week that he would reintroduce the so-called DREAM Act in the lame-duck session of Congress.

The DREAM Act cannot pass. It’s not meant to pass. It’s not meant even to come to a vote. It’s meant to mobilize and excite Latino voters in advance of 2012. It’s a ruse and a sham. But it’s also an appalling, deceptive piece of legislation with very sinister consequences. So let’s take it seriously for a minute and consider what it would do.

DREAM purports to be a humanitarian measure on behalf of young Latinos who were brought to this country as children. Here for example is what The Economist’s blogger Will Wilkinson has to say about DREAM: “Suppose your parents moved to America from Mexico without legal permission when you were five years old. You grow up in America. You graduate from high school in America. You’re an American in every sense except the legal one. You want to go to college, but because your parents came into the country illicitly, you don’t qualify for government financial aid, and you can’t get legal work. If caught by immigration authorities, you face the possibility of detention or deportation, even though this is, in every sense, your home. That doesn’t seem fair. Every year, over 60,000 kids like you graduate high school in the United States. And unless something like the DREAM Act becomes law, you and they will become part of a growing class of marginalized and unprotected Americans without papers. Even then, the papers are no sure thing. You’ve got to serve in the military or get a couple years of college under your belt, and stay out of trouble. But at least you’ll someday have the chance to enjoy the same rights and opportunities as your date to the prom.”

Well that seems compassionate! And it’s only a small group of people we’re talking about, right? Just 60,000 a year.

Wrong. Hugely wrong.

Let me give some alternative scenarios, all of which would become possible if the DREAM Act were enacted.

Possibility No. 1: You are an illegal alien who entered the country at age 21, too old to qualify for DREAM. You’ve been apprehended and are threatened with deportation. What to do? Simple — using falsified papers, you file an application under DREAM anyway. Filing an application immediately halts deportation proceedings.

Wait a minute, you wonder: won’t using false papers get me in trouble? Not a bit. Just the opposite. Even if the fraud is detected and your application is refused, you simply revert to your previous status. In the process, however, you have gained a new legal advantage: DREAM forbids the Department of Homeland Security from using any information in a DREAM application in deportation proceedings. So now you argue that the deportation proceedings are fatally tainted because you have yourself provided DHS with information that they could now use against you.

The ploy might fail. Still: what a great no-risk option!

Possibility No. 2:. You’re a 40-year-old illegal alien who entered the country as an adult. You have a third-grade education. You are barely literate even in Spanish. Your back is bothering you; you are not sure how long you can continue working. Quite frankly, no country on earth would regard you as a desirable immigrant. Don’t despair. DREAM can offer you too an amnesty and gain you access to a lifetime of taxpayer-funded disability payments.

You have kids don’t you? If they apply successfully under DREAM, they can sponsor you. While some talk about DREAM applicants as “skilled” immigrants, in fact the law’s requirements are so lenient that your kids would have to mess up very seriously to forfeit the law’s benefits. All they need to do is enroll in some institution of higher learning or the military and survive there for two years. Graduation is not required.

Does that sound expensive? Don’t worry: your kids will receive in-state tuition rates and will be eligible for federal student aid.

They’re too young for university? Don’t worry: They can file the papers at age 12. As soon as they give notice of their future intent to attend to college or join the military, they immediately receive safe haven.

They don’t find military life attractive? If they can show “significant hardship,” they can quit before their two years have been fulfilled. Honorable discharge is NOT a requirement under the DREAM law.

They have had a little trouble with the law? Maybe a history of moving violations that put people’s lives at risk? So long as they have not been convicted of a serious crime, they’re okay.

DREAM is an amnesty not only for the people described by The Economist blogger, but also for all their parents and siblings.

Possibility No. 3. I’m still living in Guatemala, but I’d dearly like to come to the United States. Can DREAM help me?

Si se puede.

DREAM sends a message to every teenager on planet Earth: Come to America. If you enter the United States before age 16, and if you can remain here for five years (or can buy papers that purport to show you have lived here for five years), you’re as good as a citizen already. No deportation proceedings. No risk that your application will be used against you. Lenient and subsidized requirements for permanent residency. What’s not to love?

And best of all: DREAM stands as an ongoing invitation, forever and ever. DREAM’s benefits extend not only to people who happen NOW to be illegally present inside the United States. DREAM’s benefits will be extended to all those who may enter illegally in future. DREAM’s message goes forth to Indonesia, to Egypt, to India, to China, to anywhere where teenagers find $7 an hour more attractive than $7 a day: come now and come early. Don’t waste your time acquiring an education before you arrive. We’ll subsidize your education right here in America.

It sounds too crazy to be true. Which is why the law won’t pass. And why it’s so very deeply cynical of Sen. Reid to dangle this false hope before Nevada’s — and America’s Latinos.”

Comment:  It should be noted that if the last 2 years of Obama rule is indicative  of  the Democrat Party’s plans  for curing  America’s most serious ailments today, THE DEMOCRAT PARTY IS  NEITHER  INTERESTED  NOR CAPABLE  OF PLACING  AMERICA’S NEEDS  OF THE DAY AT THE TOP OF THEIR AGENDA.   The Party will not place America’s problems  FIRST on its list for action when Congress reconvenes.

It cannot do so because the biggest problem of America’s day is the president, Barack Hussein Obama himself.

U.K.s Nigel Farage, Member of European Parliament, Decries E. U. Bureaucrats Are Destroying Europe’s Democracies

Those of you who try to keep up with the daily news know that the European nations with the European Union are in a state of financial crisis.  Within the European Union are their versions of   America’s  gluttonous states, California, New York. and New Jersey.  They have Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain all thirsting for a bailout from productive nations, especially Germany.

Nigel Farage gives another U.K. rousing speech against the Marist Bureaucrats dominating the European Union who have no particular care for democracy and are calling for member states to halt elections until further notice.

Obama, Pelosi, and Reid also have complained about elections.  They also speechify against conducting them.

The Pleasures of Listening to Dennis Prager, Discovering the Conservative Community and Learning about Ponzi’s Scheme

Today is vacation time for Dennis Prager, being the day after Thanksgiving.  Dennis prides himself for  his dedication to broadcast his messages live during the nation’s most honored holidays.  Today’s not quite a holiday, but that’s the way it is.

So today Prager fans were given a “The Best of Prager” substitute…….and it turned out to be one of the very best interviews I have ever heard in my life…….the original  given live many years ago.    It was the  repeat of Dennis’  interview of Mitchell Zukov who had just published his book, “Ponzi’s Scheme”, a wonderful look into the life of Charles Ponzi, hero and schemer, whose name the  Bernard  Madoff people keep alive generation after generation.

Dennis is an excellent interviewer, but even the best of interviewers   might have trouble with certain interviewees.   Mike Tyson comes to mind…..How would one even begin the interview?  How could it last for more that ten seconds?  Would one dare to interview him in person?

Mitchell Zukov, a gifted conversationalist and writer, obviously loved the guy, Charles Ponzi, about whom he wrote.  Who couldn’t?   Certainly not I…..so after the original interview I ran out to buy Zukov’s book, “Ponzi’s Scheme” and prolonged my enjoyment.

Everyone  should know what a Ponzi Scheme is……Our Federal Government operates the biggest one in human history….its Social Security system.

It is a financial fraud……an investment  fund in which money is amassed  from investors  on the promise (or gamble)  the investor will receive great financial return  from  the  invested funds payable upon their withdrawal from the fund.   This collection of money is solvent as long as fewer funds are withdrawn from the scheme than those invested.   The early investors typically reinvest…..throwing in ‘profits’ and all.  As long as that happens, everything is dandy.   Any panic for cashing in of investments dooms the scheme causing  those perpetrating it  to run for the hills as fast as possible to keep  ahead of those employed for law enforcement.

Charles Ponzi, a young immigrant from Italy, had come to America at age 21 immediately after the First World War to seek his fortune and prove to his mother he was the son she had prayed he would be..  He worked hard, and almost always on the “up-and-up” and even when not,  his miscues  were minor, such as aiding a few Italian immigrants to enter the U.S. from Canada illegally.   While working at a mine, he also managed to accomplish some  heroics including saving a young lady’s life despite  grave consequences to his own.

Eventually, a few of his indiscretions were discovered by a Boston journalist, and the race against the funds was on.   Ponzi went to jail.   Dennis admitted Charles Ponzi’s life was a “crushing story”.  It was.  Ponzi was likeable and probably more honorable over all than most of the speculators who invested in his scheme.

For those who have not found Dennis Prager  a regular radio friend yet, you should know that not only does Dennis cover the front politically as clearly and honestly as a fair human being could, it’s the quality of people who are guests on his show, as well as those who call in expressing  their own views and issues which adds so much to the show’s   richness.  It helps  callers and listeners become more familiar with America’s broad  conservative community.

Moreover, Dennis is a believing and devoted conservative.

We discover that the better people at this time in history are on our side…..the side which believes deeply in the richness of traditional American values.

NBC Honors Leader of World Trade Center Mosque Scandal: “Person of the Year”!

This morning I spent a few minutes on the Pat Campbell Show in Tulsa, discussing the outrageous decision by the Park51 group — the group that’s developing the Ground Zero Mosque — to apply for $5 million in taxpayer funds to continue development of that monument. That has certainly reignited the debate over the mosque project itself, which is a $100 million effort that so far has a whopping $20,000 banked.

Well, guess what?  Park51 is about to get a nationally televised infomercial during the holiday.  If you watch NBC’s Today Show on Thanksgiving morning, you’re likely to see host Matt Lauer interview Sharif El-Gamal.  Gamal is Park51’s lead developer and front man.

He’s been named one of NBC’s “People of the Year.”

Seriously. This not an Onion headline.  And yes, the interview is real.  NBC has posted an excerpt prior to broadcast:

In an interview set to air on Thanksgiving Day, Matt Lauer sat down with El-Gamal and discussed the “Park 51 Project.”  El-Gamal, who was apparently pleased to be named one of NBC’s people of the year, seemed very comfortable answering questions.  The excerpt released so far shows that Mr. Lauer gave El-Gamal a decidedly softball interview.  Here is a partial transcript of El-Gamal’s opening statements:

“There’s going to be a facility here that’s going to provide aquatics, uh, uh, uh, a gym, just like a Jewish community center or, or a YMCA.  It’s going to provide, uh, much needed facilities to the residents of Lower Manhattan.”

Lauer responds that there is “one major exception” to El-Gamal’s statement, describing the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  However, El-Gamal’s quickly responded:

“Not once have I held my faith accountable for the horrific events of 9/11.  I am an American.  I am an American who has a specific belief system, and my belief system, in order to be a Muslim you have to be a good Jew and a good Christian.

I’m sure he hasn’t held his faith accountable.  But that thought construction, as Robert Spencer notes, is not exactly built on a foundation of tolerance and understanding:

This is an Islamic supremacist statement. Islam considers itself to be the perfection and true embodiment of Judaism and Christianity, so El-Gamal’s statement is not one of ecumenical generosity, but of supremacist replacement theology indicating the complete delegitimization of Judaism and Christianity.

Like everything else in the Cordoba House/Park51 story, there’s more to what El-Gamal says than meets the eye.  I’m sure tough guy Matt Lauer will get right to the bottom of all of it in his Thanksgiving Day interview with his network’s Person of the Year.

I wonder:  How dismissive will Lauer be of El-Gamal’s tax problems?  And of his other interesting legal problems?  Perhaps “overcoming” all of that will form part of Lauer’s heroic “Person of the Year” narrative.”

Comment:  I agree with almost everything by Dennis Prager.  This includes his disdain for conservatives to engage in boycots.   Upon occasion, however, I weaken, and this is one of those occasions.  I usually don’t watch anything NBC, (escept occasionally to check if Keith Olbermand and crowd are as vile as I remember them to be) because of content, personalities and politics, not by intentional boycot.

North Korea Attacks, Yet “College Kid” Obama Moves to Disarm America

For the Russians, led by their  graduates of the KGB, the Soviet secret police,  this college-kid president, Barack Hussein Obama is willing to surrender “Fort America”  to appear as a “Man of Peace” to all the leftwing flakes of the Unite Nations and Nobel Peace Prize underworld.  Here  is a better understanding about the world written bySteve Huntley of the Chicago Sun-Times……..a man unknown to America, yet  if plucked out of his media-world desk and thrown into the Oval Office  to unseat  ”The Proud Flake, Obama, would cause the greatest swelling of wisdom in the history of our Republic.

“At the height of the Cold War, national security hawks would say, in explaining an outrageous act of Soviet suppression in Eastern Europe, that you can trust a communist to be a communist. A 21st century update on that would be you can trust a rogue state to be a rogue state, as North Korean proves on a regular basis.

Like the Clinton and Bush administrations, the Obama White House has been stunned by Pyongyang’s out-of-the-blue belligerent behavior, typically in its covert pursuit of nuclear weapons but most lethally in military attacks on South Korea.

This has been a particularly notable year of egregious provocations from the regime of Kim Jong Il. In March, one of his submarines torpedoed a South Korean naval vessel, killing 46 sailors. Last week, Pyongyang unveiled an advanced nuclear plant capable of producing nuclear-bomb material. Then came this week’s artillery shelling of a South Korean village that left four people dead and 18 wounded.

Speculation abounds about the reasons behind this bellicose behavior. Is Kim projecting power to ensure the transition to rule of his son Kim Jong Un? Or is it a show of strength to mask economic and political woes from sanctions? Or is he seeking to force some new concessions and aid from America, South Korea and their allies? Or does he want U.S. recognition of North Korea as a nuclear power and direct talks with Washington?

Take your pick. Such musings demonstrate why the ultra-isolationist North Korea is known as “the Hermit Kingdom.”

Whatever reasons motivate Kim, the artillery attack demonstrates once again that rogue nations operate according to their own perverse logic. As such they are beyond the appealing lures of peace, international harmony and economic development that rational minds in the West think should guide nations. In North Korea’s case, countermeasures have to be calibrated not to lead to an escalation to all-out war. That means no good options.

Iran is another example. Despite the open hand extended by President Obama, it doggedly pursues nuclear weapons. U.S.-backed sanctions are pinching Iran’s economy but not deflecting its atomic-bomb research. The only thing slowing that seems to be a computer virus called Stuxnet, sabotage of unknown origin, which is damaging devices used to enrich uranium.

And rogue nations such as North Korea and Iran aren’t the only countries immune to blandishments from the West. In one of those off-center-stage moments that reveal a larger truth, it was disclosed that Islamic schools in Britain teach a Saudi Arabian curriculum depicting Jews as looking “like monkeys and pigs.” What does that tell you about the often ballyhooed but illusionary “Saudi peace initiative”?

In a ruinous move for Mideast peace hopes, the Obama administration focused on Israeli communities in the disputed West Bank as the impediment to a negotiated settlement. In doing so, Obama threw up a new roadblock to peace as the Palestinians did something they had never previously done, made a halt to settlement construction a precondition to negotiations.

The primary obstacle to ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been constant for decades — Arab rejectionism. A recurring theme in commentary in recent years is the hope that Iran’s nuclear drive and regional hegemonic ambitions would drive the Arab nations to work to end the conflict to present a united front against this rogue nation. But Arab states remain deaf to Obama’s appeals for confidence-building gestures toward Israel.

As the provocations of North Korea and Iran so painfully reveal, the world remains a dangerous place, and many of its actors operate beyond the wishful thinking and appeals to reason that so animate the hopes of peace-loving people.”

Second comment:   Nevertheless Obama, America’s first King Leopold of Bavaria, is moving forward to compromise our nation’s ability to defend itself against nuclear attack by pushing for a treaty with the old Soviet Union people in Russia, a crowd totally untrustworthy.

“College Kid” Obama’s Disarming of America Is “Simply Childish” Writes Krauthammer

It’s a lame-duck session. Time is running out. Unemployment is high, the economy is dangerously weak and, with five weeks to go, no one knows what tax anyone will be paying on everything from income to dividends to death when the current rates expire Jan. 1. And what is the president demanding that Congress pass as “a top priority”? To what did he devote his latest weekly radio address? Ratification of his New START treaty.

Good grief. Even among national security concerns, New START is way down at the bottom of the list. From the naval treaties of the 1920s to this day, arms control has oscillated between mere symbolism at its best to major harm at its worst, with general uselessness being the norm.

The reason is obvious. The problem is never the weapon; it is the nature of the regime controlling the weapon. That’s why no one stays up nights worrying about British nukes, while everyone worries about Iranian nukes.

In Soviet days, arms control at least could be justified as giving us something to talk about when there was nothing else to talk about, symbolically relieving tensions between mortal enemies. It could be argued that it at least had a soporific and therapeutic effect in the age of “the balance of terror.”

But in post-Soviet days? The Russians are no longer an existential threat. A nuclear exchange between Washington and Moscow is inconceivable. What difference does it make how many nukes Russia builds? If they want to spend themselves into penury creating a bloated nuclear arsenal, be our guest.

President Obama insists that New START is important as a step toward his dream of a nuclear-free world. Where does one begin? A world without nukes would be the ultimate nightmare. We voluntarily disarm while the world’s rogues and psychopaths develop nukes in secret. Just last week we found out about a hidden, unknown, highly advanced North Korean uranium enrichment facility. An ostensibly nuclear-free world would place these weapons in the hands of radical regimes that would not hesitate to use them – against a civilized world that would have given up its deterrent.

Moreover, Obama’s idea that the great powers must reduce their weapons to set a moral example for the rest of the world to disarm is simply childish. Does anyone seriously believe that the mullahs in Iran or the thugs in Pyongyang will in any way be deflected from their pursuit of nukes by a reduction in the U.S. arsenal?

Obama’s New START treaty is 90 percent useless and 10 percent problematic. One difficulty is that it restricts the number of delivery vehicles for nuclear weapons. But because some of these are dual-use, our ability to deliver long-range conventional weapons, a major U.S. strategic advantage, is constrained.

The second problem is the recurrence of language in the treaty preamble linking offensive to defensive nuclear weaponry. We have a huge lead over the rest of the world in missile defenses. Ever since the Reagan days, the Russians have been determined to undo this advantage. The New START treaty affirms the “interrelationship” between offense and defense. And Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has insisted that “the unchangeability of circumstances” – translation: no major advances in U.S. anti-missile deployment – is a condition of the entire treaty.

The worst thing about this treaty, however, is that it is simply a distraction. It gives the illusion of doing something about nuclear danger by addressing a non-problem, Russia, while doing nothing about the real problem – Iran and North Korea. The utter irrelevance of New START to nuclear safety was dramatically underscored last week by the revelation of that North Korean uranium enrichment plant, built with such sophistication that it left the former head of the Los Alamos National Laboratory “stunned.” It could become the ultimate proliferation factory. Pyongyang is already a serial proliferator. It has nothing else to sell. Iran, Syria and al-Qaeda have the money to buy.

Iran’s Islamic Republic lives to bring down the Great Satan. North Korea, nuclear-armed and in a succession crisis, has just shelled South Korean territory for the first time since the Korean armistice. Obama peddling New START is the guy looking for his wallet under the lamppost because that’s where the light is good – even though he lost the wallet on the other side of town.
