Internet Freedom of Speech Threatened in the United States Senate?

Join Our Censorship Protest!

by Jane Wells

Freedom of speech needs your help!

Have you been paying attention to all the hubbub online about the proposed U.S. legislation (SOPA/PIPA) that threatens internet freedom? I wrote about it last week over on WordPress.org, but the gist is this: there’s a bill in the U.S. Senate that if passed would put publishing freedom severely at risk, and could shut down entire sites at the whim of media companies. Fight for the Future created this nifty video to sum it up better than I can.

On January 18, 2012, sites all over the internet will be blacking out to protest and try to mobilize more people to speak out against this bill coming up in the Senate next week — S. 968: the Protect IP Act (PIPA) — in an attempt to let U.S. lawmakers know how much opposition there is. WordPress.org, Wikipedia, and even WordPress.com VIP I Can Has Cheezburger? will be participating in the blackout to raise awareness and spur you to action.

Here on WordPress.com, we want to participate as well. Freshly Pressed will be blacked out during the strike. Sorry to take away your daily fix of yummy web content, but this bill threatens to do that on a much wider scale. You don’t want that, do you?

More importantly, we are making it possible for you to participate in the protest. There are two options: a “Stop Censorship” ribbon and a full blackout. The blackout portion will be in effect January 18 from 8am to 8pm EST, while the ribbon will be displayed until January 24. Here’s how to join in:

  1. Go to Settings → Protest SOPA/PIPA in your dashboard.
  2. Select if you want to join the blackout or show a ribbon.
  3. If you choose to join the blackout, you can edit the message that will be shown on your site during the blackout.
  4. Preview what your protest will look like.
  5. Click “Save Changes” button to activate your protest.

That’s it! Easy-peasy activism right at your fingertips.

The “Stop Censorship” ribbon will display in the upper corner of your site and links to americancensorship.org. It will display until January 24, 2012 (the Senate vote date).

If you choose to do the blackout in addition to the ribbon, then we will black out your site from 8am to 8pm EST along with the official strike. You can customize the message that will appear on your blacked-out site to tell people why this issue is important to you. Your site will return to just displaying the ribbon after the strike is over.

I hope that a significant number of you on WordPress.com will join in this protest. Publishing freedom is a right we must protect.

And one last pitch: whatever you decide to do about your site, please take a few minutes to head over to americancensorship.org and take action. It only takes a few moments of your time to be an agent of change!

Comment:   I present to our MN Prager readers the above information.   I do not know the ins and outs of this particular issue to determine its service or danger, or both.

I must be a GOP racist for I’d be honored to vote for President Allen West any day!

Mr. President, please don’t play the race card in 2012…

Mr. President, please don’t play the race card in 2012

”I was born in the inner city of Atlanta in 1961, when segregation was still rife, at a time when I would have been barred from visiting the very beaches that make up part of the congressional district I so proudly represent.

Just two years after my birth, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. momentously described his dream that one day his children would “live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character.”

How proud he would have been on that November Tuesday in 2008 when Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States. Clearly, Dr. King’s dream had come true. White voters across America had judged our President by the content of his character, not the color of his skin, and elected a man of color, whose very lineage with a black African father and white American mother, was a literal manifestation of the figurative melting pot of these United States.

The inauguration of our first black President, the highest office in the land, and perhaps the world’s most powerful office, clearly demonstrated to the world that race need not be a hindrance to success and achievement in America. The fact that Barack Obama won the largest share of white support of any Democrat in a two-man race since 1976 indicated the lion’s share of these voters made their decision based on his character, his vision of hope and change, and his ability to relate with everyday Americans.

Still, let us not ignore that white Democrats aren’t the only voters who are capable of making a decision based on character rather than color.

In the 2010 election cycle, 42 black Republicans were vying for seats in the House of Representatives, and 14 of them made it to the general election. Two of those candidates, myself as well as Tim Scott from South Carolina, carried that success all the way to the House of Representatives. I represent a Congressional District where more than 90 percent of my constituents are not black. A powerful movement of respect for black conservatism is brewing in this country, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would be proud of it.

With all of this progress, why is it that we continue to hear charges of racism emanating from the left, and most disturbingly, from the White House itself? It seems anytime there is criticism of the President or any of his black members of his administration, such as Attorney General Eric Holder, that criticism is decried as racist.

Mr. Holder recently said of his critics, “This is a way to get at the president because of the way I can be identified with him, both due to the nature of our relationship and, you know, the fact that we’re both African-American.” In other words, he insinuated Republicans — along with Conservatives and Tea Party members — are incapable of judging anyone solely by their character, something I take very personally.

Mr. Holder and others need to know, the criticism of the President is not of his person, but of his policies, which have clearly failed our nation–and most tragically of all in this supposedly post-racial period –have failed the black community.

As of December 2011, black unemployment remained in double digits, nearly double the national average for men at 16.4 percent, and 14.1 percent for women.

According to a Washington Post poll in September 2011, the proportion of black Americans with a “strongly positive” view of President Obama has slipped from 83 percent to 58 percent. It would obviously be absurd to say the black community’s changing view of President Obama is racially biased, so how can one make the same claim about white members opposing his policies?

As we proceed into this general election cycle, it would be a disgrace if Mr. Holder’s comment is the first salvo in the upcoming campaign to deflect honest assessment of the President’s performance in office. This campaign must be about ideas, policy and the direction of this country, and the President must not hide behind a curtain of so-called racial bias.

All Americans, black or white – and every shade in between – must be allowed to voice their opinions, level their criticisms and engage in candid discussion without fear of being labeled “racist” simply because of the color of their skin. This is precisely what Dr. Martin Luther King spoke of so eloquently, and what we celebrate today.

My message to President Obama is this: “Mr. President, your very presence in office demonstrates Dr. King’s dream has indeed come true. But how devastated would Dr. King be to know the Americans who are still fomenting racism at the highest levels are the very people for whom he fought for and died?”

What the Honesty-Impaired Leftwing is Saying about the GOP’s View of Food-Stamp President Obama

Insulting Comments at Fox News Debate

Show Newt Clueless on Black Americans

by Peter Beinart  at Daily Beast:

At the GOP debate Gingrich stood by his comments about

African-Americans needing to demand work, and his description of

Obama as the “food stamp” president, showing why he—and his party—

can’t appeal to nonwhites.

“If you want to understand why the GOP is so ill prepared to compete in an increasingly nonwhite America, just look at the exchange between Fox News questioner Juan Williams and Newt Gingrich halfway through last night’s Republican presidential debate.

Republicans Debate

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich speaks with members of the media after a Republican presidential debate at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jan. 16, 2012, Matt Rourke / AP Photo

It being Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Williams asked Gingrich whether some poor and minority voters might not be insulted at his claim that poor kids lack a work ethic and that black people should be instructed to demand jobs, not food stamps. Gingrich, as is his wont, haughtily dismissed Williams’s question, to wild applause.

Then Williams tried again, mentioning a black woman who had taken Gingrich to task for calling Barack Obama a “food stamp” president. By this point, the overwhelmingly white crowd had begun to boo the only African-American on stage. When Gingrich insisted that Obama was indeed the “food stamp” president—because more Americans are now on food stamps—and dismissed Williams’s criticism as “politically correct,” the crowd began to scream with delight. By the time Gingrich finished his answer, the crowd was on its feet in a standing ovation.

The fascinating thing about the exchange is that Gingrich is not a racist. I suspect he genuinely cares about the African-American poor. In fact, he’s convinced himself that his willingness to say things that many African-Americans consider insulting is an expression of that concern; that only he cares enough about African-Americans to speak the “politically incorrect” truths that black leaders won’t.

Gingrich’s problem isn’t racism; it’s ignorance. Only someone profoundly ignorant of African-American politics would suggest that black Americans have spent the past few decades seeking food stamps, not jobs. We celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, after all, in part because of the speech King gave at an event called the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. If you look at the budgets proposed by the Congressional Black Caucus over the years, you’ll see that they often include huge, FDR-style government jobs programs. Gingrich may not think that’s the best way to go about providing jobs, but to suggest that African-Americans and their leaders don’t consider jobs important just reveals how shut off from Africa-American politics he actually is.

Gingrich inhabits a cultural and intellectual bubble. A bubble called the Republican Party.

I’m sure Gingrich also sees nothing offensive in calling Obama the “food stamp” president. After all, under Obama the number of people using food stamps has gone up! So because Alan Greenspan presided over predatory lending policies by banks, perhaps we should have called him the “Shylock” chairman of the Federal Reserve. And if child molestations by priests rise on this administration’s watch, perhaps we should call Joseph Biden the “pedophilia” vice president.

Gingrich would never use those phrases, of course, because he’s familiar enough with Jews and Catholics to understand why they’d find them offensive. But for Gingrich—a veteran politician from the state of Georgia, speaking at a debate in South Carolina on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday—not to understand why calling the first African-American in the Oval Office the “food stamp” president would offend African-Americans is simply amazing. The most plausible explanation is that Gingrich inhabits a cultural and intellectual bubble. A bubble called the Republican Party.

I don’t doubt that Newt Gingrich wants to help African-Americans, just like I don’t doubt that George W. Bush wanted to help Iraqis. But in politics, if you want to help people, it’s a good idea to learn something about them first.”

COMMENT:

Peter Beinart should know about a bubble or two.   He  is a professor.   He bleeds Marxism.

He belongs to the Holy and Esteemed  Marxist  intellectual group of  bubbleheads  floating  at your neighborhood university who preach that  the black American is so incompetent a human species, its communities must be subsidized forever   by a benevolent dictatorship costing the American taxpayers  only $1,000,000,000,000 give or take  a half a trillion or two more  over the past 20 years of government donations.

This generous largesse has aided these fortunate Americans by destroying their families,  their schools, their businesses, their neighborhood safety, their morality, their health and their honor……..and better yet, these black American citizens NEVER HAVE TO PAY ANY INCOME TAX at all to the good old US of A.

The only ’TAX’  these cared-for American folks  have to pay is that they MUST VOTE FOR THE MARXIST-DEMOCRAT PARTY ticket  as annually and whereever  possible whether alive or dead.

This formula for community success has allowed the American black to rise to SUCH AND ELEVATED  position in society THAT  NO ONE IS PERMITTED TO SPEAK A WORD OF CRITICISM ABOUT THEIR EXEMPLARY STATUS IN AMERICAN LIFE.

Democrats for Voter Fraud Request your Petition

Most of America’s voter fraud occurs among inner city black plantation cultures.   You name the city, it supplies the fraud.   The Democrat Party has politically controlled these communities for decades and decades.   Bribery, thievery, graft and intimidation, ignorance, murder, drugs and poverty are woven deep into the fabric of this Democrat  Party CULTURE.   Its core message is racist.   ‘Whitey has done ‘this’ to you……the ones who vote Republican’.

Obama Marxists are nervous about Barack Hussein’s chances for re-election and so are planning a racial strife scenarios to ensure the return of their Man to the White House to expand government control over citizen life.

The greatest enemy of  good citizen American  blacks no matter where they live  is the collection of gangsters their black communities  send to Washington and even  to their state legislatures pretending to be interested in developing a sound economy with an educated population prideful of regular American personal and group accomplishments, but  in reality use the race card to maintain and expand the status quo.

The problem  is that such a culture shift from drugs, violence and murder, ignorance, unemployment and its poverty to a culture of  individual and civilized collective responsibility would be the end of the Democrat Party’s political  and financial stranglehold over the community.     Its control is based on RACIST HATRED OF WHITE AMERICANS.    It is a sociological disease fostered by  ONE PARTY government control based on racism politically and religiously and bribing government for handouts and graft   , causing stagnation  or decay of everything especially all  that might be deemed good in a civilized society.

These black plantation bossmen, Democrats both white and black, male and female,  blame whitey for all of their cultural sicknesses, but in truth they live in a rot of their own plantations’ creation……for there is no economic, political, religious, or educational freedom throughout the society.    These Marxists have opposed every effort to bring even a candle of free thought and private enterprise  into their lightless world.

The American Democrat Party cannot win political victories without the vote bought by these plantation tyrants.

Today at the National and local Democrat organizational levels  these people want Americans to believe that the American black is too dumb to  secure a photo ID to secure the integrity of the  vote in public elections.

Whereever Marxists exist,  there will be vote fraud.   It is a religious thing for these atheists.    They hate America for its ‘inequality’ and want to get even.    They demand to be entitled, a demand made and learned from infancy by the  racism rank in the community and among their plantation overseers.

Racist Obama has emerged from such a community.   For twenty-two years he was a member of Jeremiah Wright’s racist parish noted  for its  ”Goddamn American” sermons.

This preacher, Jeremiah Wright was Barack Hussein Obama’s ‘father figure’.

Not all is hopeless.   There are signs of cracks in the Marxist steel surrounding these black fortresses……Some honorable Democrats such as the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, and the success of Republican backed school choice policies have made a dent or two in the Marxist-Democrat one party armor.
