“Of all the great tributes to Andrew Breitbart that have appeared in the last 24 hours, I wanted to share what I think is one of the best; from his friend Matt Labash at the Weekly Standard.
Labash writes about the events surrounding one of Breitbart’s last “capers”: his dinner with Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn:
Our party arrived at our economy hotel, which sat next to a highway in the ghetto. It smelled of failure and water damage. Breitbart showed up late, letting me know he was on the grounds by sending a text which read: “We have to score some heroin before we head out….Wait, I think there’s someone outside my hotel room who can help.” We did not score heroin, which neither of us used, though in the hotel bar, we all doubled over as Andrew worked out his shtick during pre-game drinks as he proudly explained to us a new coinage of his – “Retrobate” – the process whereby one sexually fantasizes about aged actresses who you once had a crush on, in their younger incarnation.
Our friend, Daily Caller editor Tucker Carlson, had won the Ayers dinner at an Illinois Humanities Council auction, and had brought us along. Tucker and I were a little worried that we had in our possession a human grenade in Breitbart, though if we were being honest with ourselves, that’s precisely why we brought him. With Andrew, every day was anything-can-happen day.
As it happened, Breitbart was on his best behavior. “I’m here to learn,” Andrew said facetiously. It was part of the pleasure of keeping company with him. He wasn’t just a friend, he was a co-conspirator. Once we arrived at the apartment, much to Andrew’s and Ayers’s chagrin, they got along famously. Just two guys having dinner, finding commonality, even if Andrew regarded it his hidebound duty to passive-aggressively heckle Ayers as he served us plates of hoisin ribs and farmhouse cheeses. (“This is the bomb, Bill,” Breitbart said to the former explosives-rigger.)
When Ayers asked me what I was reading right now, I told him “Moby Dick,” which actually lived up to its billing. Ayers agreed, though added, as any good academic would, “You’ve picked up the gay subtext?” Breitbart nearly choked on his tofu and quinoa. “You mean in Moby Dick?” Andrew asked. “Or at this dinner?”
Labash’s piece has everything a good obit should have; wit, poignancy, regret, and a celebration of the life of the deceased. Read the whole thing”.

Comment: I didn’t know the name Andrew Breitbart very well. I sit in my in-home office to live my Dennis Prager cutural and political life. Even so, I get to know so many libbies and conservative very well, when one spends so much time enjoying fighting for America’s conservative health.
Anyone with a half brain can recognize the mental problems of so many of the left. About the only game they can play fairly is “bait and switch”. Guys have more focus, more endurance, more lazer-beams to turn on examining ‘problems’. Ten seconds of viewing Nancy Pelosi, Paul Krugman, Barack Obama, Charlie Schumer, Ted Kennedy either dead or alive, and Olympia Snow or Arlen Specter you can recognize a turkey, the gobble-gobble lawyer-liar kind, and you have learned all there is to know….they can never be trusted. Remember Bela Abzug? …..How about Congresswoman Marxine Waters?
Most of them hang around for two or four or more decades screwing up America at taxpayer expense. Ted Kennedy killed a gal while drunk, fled the scene while she likely was still alive. Think of that….and still contested for the nomination to become president. He was a thorough slob of a human being.
These days, the Democrat Party so befouled by deceit and dishonesty, by vulgarities and fevers to spread Marxism and feminism, led by the devious, Barack Hussein Obama, the perfect embodiment of the entire movement. As with Nazism and Hitler, there is no Marxism leading America without Obama.
I am certain Andrew Breitbart recognized what I see.
Like he, I loved the Tea Party movement. I’d laugh so fondly of the nearly retired, slightly over weight, uncolleged, hard working husband and wife holding up this sign or wearing that sweatshirt with message demanding America be saved. I was and still am so proud of their record to behave as American as possible while announcing their opposition to Obama’s Marxism.
I liked too, that they were Christians mostly……Christians doing their American thing for their country’s future. I couldn’t find a snob among them…..critics who knew their beef, yes, but no snobs. Ann Coulter preferred to be on television. Dorothy Rabinowitz stayed on the side writing great articles about the American dilemma for the Wall Street Journal.
And then there came along this guy, Andrew Breitbart.
The setting was on the grounds of the Nation’s Capitol with a crowd of tens of thousands of unhappy conservatives armed with posters, sweatshirts and cell phones. Nancy Pelosi, a snot and psycho, one glued to the other, manekuvered that her Congressfolk, especially a number of the black kind would contest the conservative crowd. As they approached the Capitol they purposely sacheted themselves toward and through a particularly large gathering and nosier group. These were the days of Obamacare shennanigans…..remember the 2,500 page document on would have to read its benefits after the bill was passed by the Marxist majority!
Madame Nancy was hoping for a spontaneous combustion. Voices were loud and mann shouting. All noises were protesting the coming vote they knew these Marxists, both the permanent and the temporary, were going to make.
Nothing untoward happened above and beyond the voiced slogans of protest. Nevertheless, the Democrat-Marxists made claims……obscene charges especially by a couple of black Congressmen claiming racial slurs and threats and that they feared for their lives.
But Andrew Breitbart was there. After the black lefty mouthings passed untruths on to the press and anyone else who’d listen making their charges, Andrew Breitbart, struck an idea of genious. to clean up the scene.
Most of the protesters carried cell phones. Most cell phones were also cameras with recording ability with the careful and clever human touch. No cell phone-camera came up with a single slur. There were no insults, no intimidations.
Andrew Breitbart offered $100,000 reward for anyone who come up with proof that any abuse of any kind had been perpetrated against the Democrat Congressmen.
Democrat blabbermouths all suddenly became silent. As I remember only one Congressman, a black fellow, kind of apologized, or at least he became honorably contrite.
Andrew Breitbard had that much confidence in a group over which he had some influence. That is something very American to be proud of.
Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune is pleased with the Breitbart departure. A lefty hack with racial issues lists Breitbart sins. Do count them.
