Climate Change Science Is Biased

The majority of developed nations fund research scientists and rely on them for policy guidance. It is in the best interest of these government-funded scientists to ensure their fields, and therefore their jobs, are deemed of great importance, says Patrick J. Michaels, the director of the Center for the Study of Science at the Cato Institute.

This is a problem, however, when it comes to environmental science.

•In the United States, government-funded scientists are required to produce a National Climate Assessment every four years.
•The assessment is produced by the U.S. Global Change Research Program, a 13-agency behemoth with multibillion-dollar annual funding.
•Under its empowering legislation, the assessments are “for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in the formulation of a coordinated national policy on global climate change.”
The research program and the individuals who write such reports are the largest consumers of federal largesse on climate science. Would they ever produce a report saying that their issue is of diminishing importance, so that EPA regulations of greenhouse gases are simply not needed? No, not unless they are tired of first-class travel and the praise of their universities, which are hopelessly addicted to the 50 percent “overhead” they charge on science grants.

The perils of science-by-government-funded-committee became apparent in the first assessment in 2000. The models they used were worse than no forecast at all.

•The U.S. Global Change Research Program’s computer models were given a multiple-choice test with 100 questions and four possible answers each. Simply spitting out random numbers would, within statistical limits, get around 1 out of 4 (25 percent) correct.
•The initial assessment, however, would get only 1 out of 8 answers correct (12.5 percent), essentially performing twice as badly as a random series of numbers.
•The research program was aware of this problem but published its report anyway.
•The reigning assessment is the 2009 version, which has been considered authoritative and is largely the basis for the EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations.
Later this year, government science goes international with the release of the next Scientific Assessment of Climate Change by the United Nations body that tracks the issue. It suffers from the same problem as the draft research program document, because the same people produced both reports. It, too, will serve as the basis for policy, and it, too, will be obsolete the day it is published.

Comment: That parts of the globe have been warming over the past century or so is relatively uncontested. Climate has changed regularly throughout Earth’s ‘forever’before mankind ever developed an eyelash. Lefties want political profit from weather and climate, however…..after all, that is what Marxists do……doing anything, everything for political profit no matter what the cost.

School Choice: Will It Create a Segregated America?

Education is one the most important elements of a free and democratic society. Many politicians and political think tanks have been debating back and forth about the merits of school choice, and whether or not it would create benefits for U.S. children or increase segregation and disadvantage some U.S. children. Based on recently exposed data, the argument that segregation increases in schools when parents are given an ability to choose the school for their children is flawed, says Matthew M. Chingos of the Brookings Institution.

Consider:

•A study done by UCLA Civil Rights Project claims that black charter school students were twice as likely to attend a school that enrolled less than 10 percent non-minority students compared to classmates in traditional public schools.
•Although this evidence might be convincing on first glance, this type of analysis says little to nothing about segregation caused by educational choice. It compares charter schools to schools nationwide, when charter schools are usually located in areas that contain large concentrations of minority students.
•A reanalysis of the data presented in UCLA’s Civil Rights Project indicates that there are much smaller differences between charter and traditional public schools when more applicable standards were considered.
Analysis based on the Common Core of Data (an annual federal government census over all public schools) indicates that:

•The average minority student attends a school that is 33 percent non-minority. Essentially, the typical minority student attends a major minority school.
•Likewise, the student that is eligible for free lunch benefits attends a school where more than half of the students are also eligible for a free lunch.
•As a result, the UCLA study shows us nothing about whether or not segregation is increased when families utilize charter schools.
Based on the data, there is a lack of any consistent relationship between charter schools and segregation. While this doesn’t mean there isn’t one, it suggests it is extremely unlikely. No politician or political think tank will advocate that there isn’t a problem with segregation in American society, but whether or not school choice will potentiate that problem is another story, and based on the evidence it is highly unlikely.

Atheism Dominates Prayer at Lincoln, Kentucky School

If prayer is not permitted by Atheist fiats, Atheism becomes America’s state religion. Check out this ‘history’ lesson from Lincoln, Kentucky:

STANFORD — Despite the opposition of at least six students, Lincoln County High School kept to its tradition of student-led prayer during its graduation ceremony Friday.

Class of 2013 President Jonathan Hardwick received a standing ovation after he prayed for about one minute during Friday’s commencement ceremony at the school. Many audience members echoed his closing of “Amen.”

A video of Hardwick’s prayer quickly hit social media websites such as YouTube and Topix, with most online comments supporting Hardwick’s decision.

Part of the class president’s prayer was the following, “Thank you for helping us get here safely today, Lord, and thank you for the many blessings you have given us.”

In an interview with The Advocate-Messenger earlier this month, Principal Tim Godbey acknowledged that six students — including at least one atheist — had pleaded with him not to allow student-led prayer to be a part of the school’s graduation ceremony. Godbey, a self-professed Christian who says he prays for each of his students daily, said under separation of church and state laws, faculty members have never been able to pray publicly on school grounds or during school-sponsored functions. However, he noted that the U.S. Constitution does not prohibit students from doing so as long as they are not otherwise disruptive.

Some local residents with signs demonstrated outside the school in favor of prayer and Kentucky State Police troopers were patrolling in several areas of the school grounds, according to Danville resident and activist Ricky Smith, an atheist, who attended the ceremony Friday at the request of several concerned parents and students.

“Having church groups at the entrance of the school makes non-Christian students as well as their family members and friends feel uncomfortable and even threatened,” Smith said.

Earlier this year, Smith privately asked Boyle County Judge-Executive Harold McKinney to stop magistrates from saying Judeo-Christian prayers during government meetings. After being “outed” on social media websites as an atheist and the man responsible for magistrates switching to a “moment of silence,” Smith went public with his cause. Magistrates ultimately voted to return to their long-standing tradition of opening meetings with a prayer, but said they would keep Judeo-Christian terms out of their public prayers.

After listening to Smith’s request for commissioners to switch to a moment of silence, Danville City Commission declined to significantly alter its long-standing tradition of prayer; the commission has continually followed the law and kept its prayers non-denominational, according to City Attorney Stephen Dexter. Over the past two months, Smith along with other area residents including Danville resident and Christian J.P. Brantley have been respectfully walking out of the prayer portion of commission meetings. Smith made a similar protest during Friday night’s graduation ceremony in Stanford.

Smith intends to notify the American Civil Liberties Union and the Freedom From Religion Foundation about Lincoln’s public prayer, which he feels violated the civil rights of students who are not Christians. Smith – a former Christian – pointed out that some students represent a variety of faiths or lack thereof, including Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, paganism, atheism and agnosticism.

“Every student should feel safe at their graduation and should not have to worry about religious bullying,” Smith said.

Due to the holiday weekend, Lincoln school officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

That is what our young go to school and college for these days….with the possible exception of many of the fields of honest, that is, natural science.

Unless that science happens to be funded by the Left, such as the United Nations which led the Marxist-Muslim-and other 3rd world tyrants. Their recent Global Warming bandwagon publicized in America by the intellectual crook, former Democrat Vice President, Al Gore, was based on the politics that global warming is a looming disaster to humans everywhere and it is caused by Americans who use up too much of the world’s fossil fuels as a result of its alleged ‘greed’ and ‘hording’, its exploitation of the world’s poor and suffering, its backwardness, ignorance, and criminality, and the nation’s ‘militarism’.

Change came to America. Truths became fiction…Fiction became Truths.

Barack Hussein Obama was oblivious to all world’s outside of Marxism, himself and his learnings at Harvard, and the dark halls of Chicago politics and its crooks. He has been steadfast in his drive to punish the nation he leads by promising Change and, well, dear readers, you know the up-to-date results how that is going as well as any learned American.

(Our president has publicly called our nation’s marine corps as our “Marine Corpse” with no snottiness meant at all, to illustrate certain vacancies in his modern education. Further, I believe he and his provocateurs have credited his teaching at the University of Illinois at Chicago, as professing about the American Federal Constitution.

I learned about cicadas when I was in the 8th grade. Some are endemic in our Twin Cities, or so I was told by Mrs. Dagmar McClement, my 8th grade teacher then. I was a landscaper of sorts even that early in life…an outdoors kid who gardened with passion even then. On a hot Twin City August afternoon certain years outdoor kids occasionally would notice piercing noises, noises louder than any other insect could ever engine up in our northland.

Cicadas make those noises, went the instruction…..Many plagues of crops have been ruined by those of the seventeen year variety when they become public by the billions….looking for some forage and a mate or two.

When cicadas emerged we saw they were huge superflies. as if noisy flies from outer space. We learned that they were temperature sensitive.

The following article will remind us of the modern left wing fraud once called “Global Warming”, altered early-on by the Left to gather a larger political following now to be titled “Climate Change”. Barack Hussein was thrilled with this leftwing science and immediately planned to rid the American tax payer of a trillion dollars of hard earned money to gift the third world as punishment for American economic excesses over the years.

17 year cicadas outraged to find temperatures unchanged

Seventeen years ago billions of cicadas burrowed underground. While they were down there change swept the world.

911, the internet, markets crashed and rose, governments changed hands and then changed back, we had a shale energy revolution, China and India gave free markets a try and took off.

Temperature on the other hand… remained stable.

The global warming people keep denying it, but there has been no meaningful change to world temperatures since the nineties.

That may be good news for people (if you don’t count up the waste), but we’re told the cicadas are not amused.

It may be mating time, but this cicada is not happy.

We’ve been patiently sucking roots underground for 17 years. Now billions of us dig for the surface and what do we find? Pretty much the same world temperatures we had when we went under and America smack in the middle of one of the coldest starts to spring since humans started keeping records.

SNOW on the ski slopes? ON MEMORIAL DAY?!? It’s all over Climate Depot!

For too many of my swarm companions, our sweet cicada song of insect love may be loud, but this year it is wistful at best.

When brood II burrowed underground seventeen years ago, global warming activists assured us we would reemerge to a warmer world than that we left behind. Just the way we like it. Climate computer models predicted it. Activists from warming pressure groups (the one’s with the unbelievably big bucks!) told us the science was “settled” and too sacrosanct to discuss.

That was enough for us. We’re insects after all. We put the word out. No more thinking. We shut any anti-science cicadas we caught questioning right down. A skeptical cicada? Who needs that? You’re head species. You’ve got a peer review process. We trusted you!

So brood II burrowed down, snug as bugs in dirt, and what happens while we’re resting? World temperatures stabilized and global warming stopped cold. Took a break. Went on hiatus. Failed to keep up with computer models! What’s more accurate than a computer?

Next thing we know the true global warming believers (the one’s who made all the promises!) were wandering around the internet in denial. In Stockholm, riots have taken place for six consecutive nights, with windows smashed, cars and schools set on fire, and policemen pelted with rocks. This would normally be considered a major problem, but the Swedes seem to be taking it pretty casually:

Since last Sunday, May 19, rioters have taken to the streets of Stockholm’s suburbs every night, torching cars, schools, stores, office buildings and residential complexes. Yesterday, a police station in Rågsved, a suburb four kilometers south of Stockholm, was attacked and set on fire.

But while the Stockholm riots keep spreading and intensifying, Swedish police have adopted a tactic of non-interference. ”Our ambition is really to do as little as possible,” Stockholm Chief of Police Mats Löfving explained to the Swedish newspaper Expressen on Tuesday.

”We go to the crime scenes, but when we get there we stand and wait,” elaborated Lars Byström, the media relations officer of the Stockholm Police Department. ”If we see a burning car, we let it burn if there is no risk of the fire spreading to other cars or buildings nearby. By doing so we minimize the risk of having rocks thrown at us.”

Well, that’s one way of looking at it. I noted last night that in Great Britain, police are powerless to deal with Islamic terrorists who attack innocent citizens with knives and meat cleavers (partly, at least, because most of them are unarmed), but a serious crackdown on those who criticize Muslim terrorists on Twitter or Facebook is in progress.

Something similar is happening in Sweden, as Joe Malchow points out. The police don’t do anything to prevent cars from being torched by “youths”–here’s a hint, the “youths” aren’t named Erik or Gustav–but parking regulations are being strictly enforced. So we have this absurd situation:

Swedish parking laws, however, continue to be rigidly enforced despite the increasingly chaotic situation. Early Wednesday, while documenting the destruction after a night of rioting in the Stockholm suburb of Alby, a reporter from Fria Tider observed a parking enforcement officer writing a ticket for a burnt-out Ford.

When questioned, the officer explained that the ticket was issued because the vehicle lacked a tag showing its time of arrival. The fact that the vehicle had been effectively destroyed – its windshield smashed and the interior heavily damaged by fire – was irrelevant according to the meter maid, who asked Fria Tider’s photographer to destroy the photos he had taken.

That’s the thing about Sweden: just when you think there is not a single good thing about the country, you are forced to admit that they have the world’s most fetching meter maids. Still, that doesn’t prevent the decline of civilization from proceeding apace in Sweden, as in Great Britain.

Muslims Murder Native Brit, Lee Rigby …….Muslim Peace at your Doorstep….

The bureaucratic world of the West passes off Muslim as a religion of peace.

Exactly where is the evidence that these mouthpieces of leftwing Western establishments are telling the truth?

Lee Rigby, a young husband and a father, was ceremoniously butchered in London yesterday in a particularly Muslim fashion, these days and continuously centuries during past centuries of Muslim devotion to peace as a religion-dictatorship.

Cheating Teachers further Corrupt the Corrupt ObamaAmerica

The front page of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution one day in late March was almost completely taken up by news of indictments of 35 public employees. They were not legislators or crooked cops but principals and teachers in the Atlanta school system. They had been doing what one expects to hear students have been doing—namely, cheating on exams. But going by the tone of the grand jury report, one could have been forgiven for thinking they were sanitation department employees cutting deals and working kickbacks with the mob.

The Atlanta educators had, for years, been revising answers on their students’ statewide, federally mandated competency tests. This was done to improve the students’ scores, and unsurprisingly it worked. The Atlanta school system was celebrated. Its chief, Beverly Hall, was named National Superintendent of the Year in 2009 by the American Association of School Administrators, which declared her to be
“an outstanding superintendent whose leadership has turned Atlanta into a model of urban school reform. .  .  . She has demonstrated a commitment to setting high standards for students and school personnel, working collaboratively with the school board, and meeting the needs of the local community.”

Hall was also honored at the White House by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, who later said, while the rumors of widespread fraud and corruption were already in the air, “Whatever the outcome of the state investigation, [Hall’s] accomplishments should not go unrecognized.”

Hall was also endorsed by the Gates Foundation, which found the Atlanta public school system “the leading edge” in “effective teaching.”

The grand jury thought otherwise. According to the indictment, Hall had indeed worked collaboratively: “In her capacity as the superintendent, [she] conspired and endeavored to violate the Georgia RICO Act through a pattern of racketeering activity .  .  . ”

If convicted, Hall could do 45 years, which seems harsh and probably is. But she is accused of profiting from a criminal enterprise to the tune of some half-million dollars, of ruining the careers of principals who refused to go along with the enterprise and rewarding those who did. And, of course, there are the thousands of children and their parents who were defrauded and no doubt feel truly cheated by what Hall was doing when she wasn’t soaking up the praises of the educrats and foundation chiefs.

Suspicions about the test scores being rung up by Atlanta students first emerged in 2008 and were reported by the Journal-Constitution. The test scores were, quite simply, too good to be true. The improvement was too dramatic. Inner-city schools were, almost overnight, outperforming those in the suburbs, but it was indelicate to point this out. There were, predictably, racial undercurrents.

Still, the Journal-Constitution persisted. The evidence was compelling enough that a Republican governor, Sonny Perdue—a white man from rural Georgia—pushed an investigation. The conspirators were defiant. As the AJC reported, one superintendent met “in 2010 with a dozen principals where schools were most suspect. She disparaged the state investigation and then told the principals to write and read aloud memos telling the state investigators to ‘go to hell.’ ”

Eventually, one teacher wore a wire, just like on the television shows, and gradually the evidence was accumulated and the indictments handed down. Now there will be trials.

It is, of course, a depressing story. Not least because of the brutal insensitivity and unconcern about “the kids.” That is to say, the victims. Hall and her co-conspirators sold them down the river while soaking up the money and the glory.

But that is, sadly, ordinary human frailty, and that has been with us a long time. The conspirators were tempted and they gave in to it. But they had their enablers at the foundations and in the Department of Education. Why were the latter not suspicious when the Journal-Constitution began reporting the story in 2008? These, after all, are supposed to be the people who really understand education. They are the experts.

And yet they were apparently more clueless than some parents of Atlanta schoolchildren who went to officials and demanded to know why, if their children were testing so well, they were reading so poorly.

“Don’t worry about it,” was Beverly Hall’s answer. And the big dogs at the Gates Foundation and the Department of Education backed her up. A mother of one of the defrauded children was quoted in the AJCas saying, “Beverly Hall needed to take the fall for this. She made a deal with the devil, and the devil called her out.”

The Department of Education has a budget of over $77 billion a year, and it also needs to be called out. This, of course, will not happen. What is happening is an effort by education theorists and teachers’ union bosses to transfer the blame from Hall and her co-conspirators onto .  .  . the tests.

The scandal, according to this line, proves that there is too much emphasis placed on standardized tests. One voice making this argument is that of William Ayers, writing in the Washington Post, where he is coyly described as:

a radical activist during the 1960s and ’70s, [who] had the national spotlight thrown on him during the 2008 presidential campaign when right-wing commentators tried, incorrectly, to say he had a close relationship with then candidate Barack Obama. In any case, Ayers is a well-known Chicago educator who worked with mayor Richard Daley on school reform and who taught and did research for years at the university. He has written numerous articles and books on elementary education.

In his short piece for the Post, Ayers (who in fact took part in the Weather Underground’s bombing campaign and was later a fugitive from justice) writes that Hall’s work “embodied the shared educational policies of the Bush and Obama administrations.” He then goes on to blame the No Child Left Behind initiative of the Bush administration (no mention of the big part Ted Kennedy played in that one) and Obama’s Race to the Top program for putting heavy emphasis on testing and “reducing education to a single narrow metric that claims to recognize an educated person through a test score.”

The stress on testing is an incentive to cheating, Ayers writes, and maybe so. But life is full of temptations that people are reasonably expected to resist. The Atlanta conspirators did have choices. Some of their colleagues chose not to cheat and not to tell investigators to “go to hell.” Some even chose to cooperate with the investigation.

Many, if not most, of the students who went to the corrupt schools—and their parents who sent them there—had no choice.

If testing has been tried and found wanting, one thinks, then how about trying something different?

Like school choice. If the Department of Education and the Gates Foundation and the rest of the education apparatus can’t sniff out a fraud and a con of this magnitude, let the parents and the students give it a try. They can’t do any worse.

Consequences of Whoring by the Modern American College Lefty Female

For more than thirty years university leftist females and others have redesigned and redefined education in America’s colleges of ‘education’, the classes in the social sciences (meaning MARXIST AND FEMINIST STUDIES) and have revolutionized teaching and the curriculum reducing thought to become one mind, one party, one country….. the ‘mind’ of female body creating peace and harmony….. and equality, at last. Whoring is in…..learning is out.

Whoring might be becoming the intellectual sport of the curricula and its lefty products.

Writing for The Atlantic in September of 2012, Hanna Rosin argued that the “hookup culture” so prevalent on college campuses and in the lives of young adults is “an engine of female progress—one being harnessed and driven by women themselves.” She wrote:

To put it crudely, feminist progress right now largely depends on the existence of the hookup culture. And to a surprising degree, it is women—not men—who are perpetuating the culture, especially in school, cannily manipulating it to make space for their success, always keeping their own ends in mind.

For college girls these days, an overly serious suitor fills the same role an accidental pregnancy did in the 19th century: a danger to be avoided at all costs, lest it get in the way of a promising future.

In other words, women have succeeded in becoming the men they hated. . .

[In] Mary Eberstadt’s just-released book How the West Really Lost God. Eberstadt challenges the accepted notion that faith supports marriage and the family, asking whether it is not actually the other way around—that the forming of families leads to faith.

Eberstadt makes the case that through committed human love we find God, and that this is particularly true in the transcendent experience of parenthood. The utterly new love that enters the world through childbirth leads us to acknowledge something that is greater than ourselves, and worthy of our gratitude.

Bit by bit we can see in such meditation the beginnings of an intuitively resonant account of how Christianity (and likely other religions too) really waxes and wanes in the world. . . . The Christian story itself is a story told through the prism of the family. Take away the prism and the story makes less sense.

Parents are the most fundamental defenders of life; they will die for their children’s sakes. Disrupt the family and you disrupt life, but not death. Death goes on. Our increasingly secular society sanctions abortion and euthanasia and battles to celebrate sterile unions that cannot naturally populate the world. We are in dissolution, so lonely that we are killing ourselves, so earth-bound in our thinking that we throw people away. . . .
