I had to suffer through a few hours watching CNN on television today. They were suffering, at a loss, to explain the condition that their Crooked Hillary would not further corrupt her America by becoming its next president of the United States.
Upon whom or what would they blame for their Hillary’s failure to dictate one-party fascism in America for the foreseeable future? What went wrong?
CNN leftist enthusiasts, Wolf Blitzer, Gloria Borger, and David Gergen stuttered throughout an hour reaching for a cause of the Donald Trump victory…..Then Wolf came up with the idea Hillary was a victim of the “outdated” American Constitution’s “Electoral College” inferring it was something corrupt against the democratic process still remaining from yesterday’s used books that needed to be made to disappear….for, at the end of the day, Hillary Roddham Clinton wound up with a two hundred thousand lead in the popular vote.
These Hillarys of the Left apparently don’t care, or don’t know the essentials of our American past regarding the importance of developing the Electoral College ‘count’ to elect our nation’s presidents. There are two basic reasons our forefathers chose the Electoral College count rather than the popular vote to determine the presidential winner.
At the end of the Revolutionary War with Mother England our forefathers were attempting to organize a single nation out of thirteen pre-Revolutionary War colonies and states to be established thereafter. Virginia, I believe was then the most populous state with Massachusetts or New York colonies runner-ups. The individual states weren’t interested in each becoming an independent nation. To create a nation by uniting states, an agreement had to be made to recognize population as the major factor in number of a states’ national vote, but honor each state with at least a certain degree of political power as a state when competing for ‘national’ elections. Otherwise, the less populated states would likely be forever ignored forever more.
Political corruption in one of the major population states could corrupt the entire nation’s democratic institutions, economy, and laws, especially the vote-count when electing presidents. For example, one million illegal immigrants hidden in California who voted illegally for their favorite candidate in that state would corrupt the presidential voting tally ONLY IN CALIFORNIA, NOT IN THE NATIONAL VOTING TOTALS.
Otherwise, why should the citizens of populous Virginia bother worrying about rights, liberty, or the economy of folks living in Rhode Island or Delaware? Why would any presidential candidate care to waste their precious time traveling to states with small populations? Whoever might win Virginia would become president.
As a compromise, our early patriots chose the Electoral College as the basis for determining presidential voting. Each state by Constitutional Law would have two members in the upper political body, the Senate, and each state would have at least one member of the larger chamber, the House of Representatives but additional ‘Representative’ members base upon size of population. Those numbers, when added together would determine the number each state’s votes in the “Electoral College” when determining the nation’s President. Each state would be granted 3 “Electoral College” votes. The more populated states would be entitled more “Electoral College” votes based on their greater numbers of citizens.
