Is The COVID War Over, Too?

February 1, 2022

The Lancet surrenders and declares COVID pandemic is almost over

By Thomas Lifson at American Thinker:

The Lancet, published since 1823, is universally recognized as one of the top medical publications in the world, though it damaged its reputation by publishing and then subsequently retracting a study attacking the use of hydroxychloroquine as a therapy for COVID.  Still, the retraction was the right thing to do, and it is hardly unprecedented in the history of academic and medical publishing.

In an article published January 19, The Lancet throws cold water on those merchants of panic who wish to use COVID as an excuse to rob people of their civil rights.

COVID-19 will continue but the end of the pandemic is near” is the title of the article by Christopher J L Murray.  It makes the point that has been made on these pages: omicron is far more contagious and far milder than previous variants, which is what happens when epidemics start to die down.  (Footnotes removed for ease of reading.)

The world is experiencing a huge wave of infection with the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. Estimates based on Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) models suggest that on around Jan 17, 2022 there were 125 million omicron infections a day in the world, which is more than ten times the peak of the delta wave in April, 2021. The omicron wave is inexorably reaching every continent with only a few countries in eastern Europe, North Africa, southeast Asia, and Oceania yet to start their wave of this SARS-CoV-2 variant. The unprecedented level of infection suggests that more than 50% of the world will have been infected with omicron between the end of November, 2021 and the end of March, 2022. Although IHME models suggest that global daily SARS-CoV-2 infections have increased by more than 30 times from the end of November, 2021 to Jan 17, 2022, reported COVID-19 cases in this period have only increased by six times.  Because the proportion of cases that are asymptomatic or mild has increased compared with previous SARS-CoV-2 variants, the global infection-detection rate has declined globally from 20% to 5%.

Understanding the burden of omicron depends crucially on the proportion of asymptomatic infections. A systematic review based on previous SARS-CoV-2 variants suggested that 40% of infections were asymptomatic.  Evidence suggests that the proportion of asymptomatic infections is much higher for omicron, perhaps as high as 80–90%. Garrett and colleagues found that among 230 individuals in South Africa enrolling in a clinical trial, 71 (31%) were PCR positive for SARS-CoV-2 and had the omicron variant and no symptoms. Assuming this prevalence of infection was representative of the population, the implied incidence compared to detected cases suggests that more than 90% of infections were asymptomatic in South Africa. The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) infection survey estimated a point prevalence of PCR positive SARS-CoV-2 infection of 6·85% for England on Jan 6, 2022. Hospital admission prescreening of individuals without COVID-19 symptoms in the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA, USA, did not exceed 2% throughout the COVID-19 pandemic but exceeded 10% in the week of Jan 10, 2022 (Murray CJL, unpublished). In addition to the much larger proportion of asymptomatic infections, in the USA the ratio of COVID-19 hospitalisations to detected cases hospitalised has declined by about 50% in most states compared with previous peaks. The proportion of COVID-19 patients in hospital who require intubation or are dying has declined by as much as 80–90% in Canada and South Africa. (snip)

The impacts of future SARS-CoV-2 transmission on health, however, will be less because of broad previous exposure to the virus, regularly adapted vaccines to new antigens or variants, the advent of antivirals, and the knowledge that the vulnerable can protect themselves during future waves when needed by using high-quality masks and physical distancing. COVID-19 will become another recurrent disease that health systems and societies will have to manage. For example, the death toll from omicron seems to be similar in most countries to the level of a bad influenza season in northern hemisphere countries. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated the worse influenza season during the past decade in 2017–18 caused about 52 000 influenza deaths with a likely peak of more than 1500 deaths per day. The era of extraordinary measures by government and societies to control SARS-CoV-2 transmission will be over. After the omicron wave, COVID-19 will return but the pandemic will not.

Unfortunately, A Great Number of “DOCTORS” Named Today, Have No Idea How CARING DOCTORS USED TO BE A GENERATION AND MORE AGO!

The doctors who actually do know best?

By Jim Hollingsworth at American Thinker:

On Sunday, January 23, there was a march and rally in Washington, D.C.: “Defeat the Mandates: An America Homecoming.”  On Monday, January 24, Senator Ron Johnson hosted a panel discussion where about a dozen of these same doctors shared their personal testimonies.

These are not doctors just plucked off the street, but professionals from all over the country who are tops in their particular field.  One doctor is the CEO of a medical organization with over 17,000 medical and scientific members.  The mainline media called their narratives a “false narrative.”

Listen to what these doctors had to say.

“Let doctors be doctors; let the doctor and patient determine the treatment, not the government.”

“The men who founded America were not professional politicians, but farmers, shop people, and land-owners.”

It was a serious mistake to let government officials control health care rather than doctors and nurses, who really knew what was happening.”

One doctor pointed out that the things that were important to him were his wife, his kids, and his grandkids.  He insisted we take a stand for our grandkids.

“Don’t let them vaccinate your kids.  While vaccinating may have seemed like a good idea at the start of the pandemic, vaccinating kids makes no sense.  Children have natural immunity, rarely catch the flu, and more rarely pass it on to others.  Many have suffered because of the vaccinations.”

“Vaccinating children has had very negative results.  Some, especially the boys, have had permanent heart damage.  Some girls became sterile.”

“If your child is injured because of the introduction of an unproven vaccine, you have no remedy: drug companies are no longer liable for drug failures. “

One doctor shared how he was working in the emergency room of a hospital and was seeing a lot of success by treating with off-label drugs.  The hospital banned those drugs and would not let him use them.  He then had no way to save his patients.

One doctor pointed out that the drug companies along with the CDC, the NIH, and the FDA are pushing very expensive drugs and resisting the early use of much cheaper drugs.  These off-label drugs, when used at the right time and with the right dose, are very effective, and they cost only pennies.

“It is evident that there is a lot of fraud in the health care business, which is a terrible tragedy.”

“Following the protocol of Dr. Fauci and the CDC has cost a lot of unnecessary deaths.”

“The common prescription was to send the patient home until he turned blue, and then bring him to the hospital.  The patient was given dangerous drugs, and often he died because the proper treatment was not available, or it was too late.”

The rally took place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  One doctor pointed out that another American shared his “dream” on that very spot in a 1963 rally.

One doctor pointed out the importance of having “Integrity, Dignity, and Community,” traits that seem to be lacking to us today.  He pointed out the importance of a little kindness and good works.

Several doctors pointed out how our Constitution has served us well for over two hundred years, but it is gradually being eroded.  The American Constitution has no provision for the abandonment of our rights because of a medical emergency.  They pointed out that the action by the CDC and other health officials is leading to tyranny.

“These vaccines are still experimental; they have not yet been proven or approved for general use.”

“The vaccines that were developed two years ago for the Covid 19 virus are not effective at all against the omicron variety of the flu.”

“Masks do no good.  They do not keep you from getting the disease or prevent you from giving it to another person.  The virus is many times smaller than the mesh in the mask and the virus goes right through it.”

“Children need to be free of masks.  Young children learn to talk by watching your face.  The expression on a face often says as much as the words communicated, and this is impossible when wearing a mask.”

“We were told to lock down and isolate for two weeks to flatten the curve, so hospitals would not be overwhelmed.  Almost two years later and that directive is still in place in some locations.  Hospitals were waiting for a great influx of covid patients.  But it did not happen.  Often the hospitals were almost empty and doctors were sent home.”

“We were told that the answer was a vaccine:  Then it was a booster; Then a second booster.  Evidence makes it clear that vaccines do not prevent you from catching the virus, nor do they prevent you from giving it to another.”

“Natural immunity is far more effective than any mask or vaccine could ever hope to be.  Natural immunity lasts a lifetime and vaccinations wear off in just a short while.”

“Most hospitals insisted that all staff had to be vaccinated.  They made no provision for natural immunity, or for immunity that resulted from having covid.  Unless the person was vaccinated he was terminated.  This made no sense, as hospitals, which were already short of staff, were made even shorter.  Medical professionals, who had been treated like heroes during the height of the pandemic were later treated like domestic terrorists if they refused to be vaccinated.”

One doctor pointed out the importance of personal choice.  All medical decisions need to be made between the doctor and the patient.  The patient always has the choice of seeking a second opinion if he is not satisfied with the diagnosis.  Patients need to regain control over their bodies and what is put into them.  That needs to be their choice, not that of any government official.

The common theme of the medical discussions was “protect your children; protect your rights.”  Our rights are being gradually taken away from us.  This has got to stop.

One doctor pointed out an old maxim: “Let truth loose; it will defend itself.”

Another doctor pointed out that one province in India could not get vaccines so they used off-label drugs.  The result was that they had far fewer fatalities than other locations around them.

Several doctors quoted part of the Hippocratic Oath, which says: “First, do no harm”.  The medical profession has traditionally been committed to protecting the patient and not doing any harm. Politicians have placed doctors in a position where they cannot possibly care for their patients as they ought to.

One doctor concluded by offering hope: “We shall get through this.”  “There is hope in the future.  Stop thinking about the past.  You cannot do anything about it.  Think of the future and what you can do about it.”

Several doctors asked those who attended the rally to go home and take action to open the eyes of those around them.  Many forms of mass communication have been shut down; doctors have been removed from certain platforms.  But the truth must get out.  Otherwise, we will only have tyranny.

Yes, There’s Trouble Regarding “New China”

THE NEW YORKER › Annotations

How Beijing Is Playing the Olympics

EVAN OSNOS at The New Yorker: JANUARY 30, 2022

For most of its history, China had little use for the kinds of competitive sports that were popular in the West. Qing-dynasty scholars associated them with the undignified domain of laolizhe (“people who rely on physical strength”). But, in 1895, China suffered a swift defeat in a war with Japan, which convinced a generation of Chinese thinkers that building international respect must begin with mastering physical competitions. “If we want to make our country strong,” Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China, declared, “we must first make sure our people have strong bodies.”

In the century and a quarter since, as Xu Guoqi, a historian at the University of Hong Kong, observed in his book “Olympic Dreams,” the Games have become a periodic opportunity to articulate “the meaning of being Chinese.” In 1952, the fledgling Communist government pressured the International Olympic Committee to abandon Taiwan and recognize Beijing as the representative of the Chinese nation. (It took three decades to reach a deal, under which Taiwan competes as Chinese Taipei.) In 1984, during a warming of relations with the United States, China did not join a Soviet boycott of the Summer Games in Los Angeles. “Nearly a hundred thousand fans in that Opening Ceremony stood up to give China a standing ovation,” Xu said, in a recent interview.

China’s fascination with Olympic glory enters its latest chapter on February 4th, when Beijing opens the 2022 Winter Games, thirteen and a half years after it hosted the Summer Games, making it the first city to hold both. But the occasion has been beset by extraordinary pressures from the realms of politics, diplomacy, and public health. The organizers, determined to keep the Games on schedule—and to prove that China’s “zero COVID” policy could withstand the influx of more than three thousand athletes, coaches, and officials—designed a “closed loop” network of venues, hotels, and transportation to sequester attendees from the population. Athletes have been warned not to roam beyond the boundaries, much less to tweet anything negative about China’s government. At a news conference, an official warned that any “behavior or speech” that breaks “Chinese laws and regulations” will be subject to punishment. (Beijing is apparently willing, however, to use social media to try to soften that stance abroad. A contract filed in the official registration of foreign agents, in Washington, D.C., shows that Chinese diplomats paid a consulting firm based in New Jersey for at least 3.4 million impressions on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch, highlighting “touching moments,” “positive outcomes,” and other sunny Olympic elements.)

For the 2008 Summer Games, to mollify critics, the organizers pledged to “enhance all the social sectors, including education, medical care, and human rights.” That commitment fuelled hopes that the event might become a catalyst akin to the 1988 Summer Games, in Seoul, which hastened South Korea’s transition from a dictatorship to a democracy. China made a stunning investment in preparation—and all but ignored the human-rights pledge. “Protest zones” were established for demonstrators who were, at the time, particularly concerned about repression in Tibet, but the police approved no protests.

Nevertheless, from Beijing’s perspective, the 2008 Games were a success, attracting record-breaking television audiences and more than three hundred thousand foreign tourists to a spectacle that amounted, in the ubiquitous media cliché of the time, to China’s “coming-out party.” Over the complaints of human-rights groups, President George W. Bush was one of scores of foreign heads of state who attended the opening ceremony, on the theory that pleasing Chinese leaders would ultimately make them more receptive and confident, less prone to xenophobia.

That was not to be. If Chinese leaders took a lesson from those Games, it was more likely about the power of defiant self-protection. Not only had they held off demands for reform but, weeks later, the Wall Street mortgage crisis sapped their trust in the U.S. financial system, and they grew increasingly suspicious of ideas and technology from the outside. Since the Arab Spring, in 2011, China has arrested or silenced a generation of lawyers, journalists, and civil-society activists. The pandemic has rendered the country only more opaque: academic exchanges have withered, many foreign correspondents have been expelled, and authorities have tightened access to measurements of China’s economy.

Meanwhile, China’s relationships with the U.S. and its allies, including the United Kingdom and Australia, have soured. The Trump Administration pressed Beijing over trade, territorial disputes, threats to Taiwan, and the crackdown in Hong Kong, and accused it of waging a genocide against Uyghur Muslims in the western region of Xinjiang. The Biden Administration has maintained much of that tension, declaring that the U.S. and China “need not have a conflict” but should brace for “extreme competition” on the economic stage. Instead, Chinese diplomats and leaders have embraced the spirit of confrontation. In a speech last July, on the hundredth anniversary of the Communist Party, General Secretary Xi Jinping declared that foreigners who bully China will “dash their heads against a Great Wall of steel.”

By the time Beijing revealed a slogan for the upcoming Games, last fall, it felt like a relic from another time: “Together for a Shared Future.” China soon announced that, because of the pandemic, no foreign visitors would be allowed to buy tickets to events, and the political rifts beneath the Games were about to become more visible. On November 2nd, Peng Shuai, a tennis star and a three-time Olympian, accused the former Chinese Communist Party leader Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault. Peng went missing for a couple of weeks, triggering an outcry from athletes, governments, and the Women’s Tennis Association. (Zhang has not responded to the charges; in a subsequent interview, Peng recanted them.) In a sign of how much China has come to dominate Olympic politics, the I.O.C. president, Thomas Bach, called merely for “quiet diplomacy.” He has since said that he will meet with Peng in Beijing.

In December, marking a contrast with America’s handling of the 2008 Games, the Biden Administration announced a “diplomatic boycott,” citing China’s human-rights record—especially the internment and physical abuse of Muslims. Canada, the U.K., Denmark, and several other countries joined the boycott. Officially, China dismissed the gesture as “pure grandstanding” over a “so-called ‘genocide,’ ” but nobody acquainted with Chinese politics believes that the slight did not sting. The Olympics may project China’s deep desire to “make our country strong,” as Sun Yat-sen said, but, as long as its political leaders mock and condemn efforts to protect some of its most vulnerable people, they will struggle to win international respect. ♦

Getting To Know The American Left Better!

The Left Doesn’t Just Want More Criminals On The Streets. It Also Wants Police To Be Scared Of Doing Their Jobs

BY: JORDAN BOYD FEBRUARY 01, 2022 at the Federalist:

law enforcement

The left is keen on letting criminals, even those who ransacked the nation’s cities in 2020, off the hook in the name of social justice. Now, that same left is trying to deter law enforcement from doing their jobs by denying officers who fought off violent 2020 rioters legal representation while U.S. attorneys lobby to let agitators off scot-free.

At least one federal employee who sought legal representation from President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice after being sued for protecting the federal courthouse during the 2020 summer-of-rage riots was denied by the legal agency. After Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., threatened to stall any Biden administration DOJ nominees due to the agency’s unwillingness to represent a federal agent for doing his or her duties and defending government property from rioters, the DOJ admitted that’s exactly what it had done but did not apologize.

“These courageous officers were attacked by left-wing street militants with weapons such as mortar fire, ball bearings, and blinding lasers,” Cotton wrote in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland. “A refusal to represent these Deputy Marshals would violate the Department’s long-standing practice — not to mention its moral duty — to defend law-enforcement officers when they’re sued for actions in the line of duty.”

For years, progressive district attorneys have ushered in a new era of lax policies that let criminals accused of violent and destructive crimes back onto the streets. This has led crime in U.S. cities to worsen dramatically.

Instead of prosecuting the thousands of rioters who sacked cities across the nation during the 2020 summer of rage, federal prosecutors have ignored the $2 billion rioting damages and quietly dismissed charges against dangerous and destructive rioters in PortlandD.C., and other cities. Among those whom U.S. attorneys asked to be spared of federal criminal charges was a transgender rioter in Portland who intentionally attacked law enforcement officers using a laser.

Many of these violent rioters, who were bailed out on the recommendation of now-Vice President Kamala Harris and progressive-backed initiatives implemented by leftist DAs, were free to walk despite looting, rioting, and burning businesses and government buildings.

While more than 700 people have been arrested in connection to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, the FBI only arrested “just north of 250 people” for “violence that we all saw around the peaceful protests,” as Assistant Director of the FBI’s national security branch Jill Sanborn said during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this month.

Americans are rightfully outraged about these pro-criminal policies and actions, but their concerns about “soft-on-crime” DAs and criminals in the streets are routinely mocked by Biden’s White House.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?creatorScreenName=FDRLST&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-0&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3NwYWNlX2NhcmQiOnsiYnVja2V0Ijoib2ZmIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1487952376564756485&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fthefederalist.com%2F2022%2F02%2F01%2Fthe-left-doesnt-just-want-more-criminals-on-the-streets-it-also-wants-police-to-be-scared-of-doing-their-jobs%2F&sessionId=47c8477f6df6a6448823de37fc69f04528462578&siteScreenName=FDRLST&theme=light&widgetsVersion=0a8eea3%3A1643743420422&width=500px

The Biden administration, Democrats, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s rigged Jan. 6 commission love heaping accusations on Republicans for the actions of people who spent hours at the Capitol. On the other hand, rioters who spent months destroying cities and personal property get a pat on the back from leftists while police officers struggle to do their jobs and keep the public safe.

The left wants control and will target anyone who undermines their goal. That’s why they sicced the mob on armed civilians such as Kyle Rittenhouse. Leftists already endorsed letting anarchists run rampant in the streets and have deterred law enforcement officers from doing what they were hired to do. And they don’t want people such as Rittenhouse getting in their way.

FEBRUARY 1, 2022 BY SCOTT JOHNSON at Power Line:

We are in the early stages of the apparent USDA free lunch food fraud committed under the auspices of the Minnesota nonprofits including Feeding Our Future. So far, the FBI has unsealed three search warrants that have now been executed. The warrants and supporting affidavits lay out the (huge) underlying investigation along with the alleged facts of the case.

The Center of the American Experiment’s Bill Glahn has posted a handy summary with links to the local coverage of the story in “$455 million in taxpayer money to MN nonprofits named in FBI search warrants” (more here). Bill notes that, although the dollar amounts involved range into the hundreds of millions, the FBI mentions only tens of millions as allegedly missing. I have embedded the first of the three search warrant documents at the bottom via Scribd.

The January 21 St. Paul Pioneer Press story by Josh Verges may do the best job of providing the background and allegations. It opens this way:

A Twin Cities nonprofit and a web of business operators stole tens of millions of dollars in federal funds that were supposed to help feed needy children while schools were closed during the coronavirus pandemic, according to court records.

More than 200 agents of the FBI and other state and federal agencies raided over a dozen locations Thursday, including the St. Anthony offices of Feeding Our Future and the Rosemount home of its director, Aimee Bock.

The FBI alleges in search warrant affidavits that Feeding Our Future, the state’s largest independent sponsor of federal food programs, submitted false reimbursement records and conspired with business owners who stole and laundered funds as part of a “massive fraud” involving shell companies, kickbacks and dozens of bank accounts.

“The companies and their owners received tens of millions of dollars in federal funds for use in providing nutritious meals to underprivileged children and adults,” an FBI agent wrote. “Almost none of this money was used to feed children. Instead, the participants in the scheme misappropriated the money and used it to purchase real estate, cars and other luxury items.”

No criminal charges have been filed, and the FBI said it did not arrest anyone Thursday [January 20].

The Minnesota Department of Education on Thursday moved to terminate Feeding Our Future as a sponsor and cut off funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program and Child and Adult Care Food Program.

The department also suspended reimbursements for a second sponsor, Partners in Nutrition — also known as Partners in Quality Care — based on information in the search warrants. Bock used to work for Partners in Nutrition.

The two federal food programs typically provide meals for needy children during summer, when schools are closed, as well as meals and snacks for kids in child care and afterschool programs.

But early in the pandemic, when many schools closed to keep the virus in check, the USDA broadened eligibility for its food programs, letting restaurants participate, authorizing meals in higher-income neighborhoods and allowing for the distribution of multi-day packs of food to be eaten off-site.

Meanwhile, many employees in the Minnesota Department of Education, which oversees the food programs, were ordered to work from home.

“According to MDE officials, this left the program vulnerable to fraud and abuse,” the FBI wrote.

The proprietor of Feeding Our Future is Aimee Bock. She denies the allegations of fraud and characterizes the investigation as “an attack on a community,” presumably the Somali community.

Apart from Bock, the beneficiaries of the misappropriated nonprofit funds named in the investigation appear to be almost entirely Somali, so we have the inevitable Ilhan Omar connection. Yesterday Alpha News reported that Omar’s campaign committee and leadership PAC has received nearly $10,000 from Safari Restaurant. Alpha notes that Safari “was reimbursed for $15 million it allegedly spent serving meals to hungry children between May and November 2020. The restaurant claims it fed 5,000 children a day, more than the St. Paul public school system.”

Speaking on her own behalf, Omar has distanced herself from the case. The Star Tribune quotes Omar: “Anyone who participated in this scheme must be held accountable,” said Omar. “It’s shameful that children who struggle with food insecurity paid the price for this nonprofit’s alleged actions.” (The linked story also provides useful background on the case.)

The Pioneer Press story identifies nonprofit principals who took in millions of federal funds. One such is Guhaad [Hashi] Said, whose “Advance Youth Athletic Development, aka Central Avenue Lofts, [received] $3.2 million.” This should be a red flag for anyone who has followed the Omar saga on Power Line (avatar at right).

Preya Samsundar first reported on Hashi in the 2016 Alpha News story “A community forced into silence.” In 2019 I wrote about David Steinberg’s PJ Media column “Ilhan Omar’s Husband No Longer Works for Minneapolis Councilwoman. Sources Say Omar Asked for Him to Be Fired.” PJ Media appended this easily overlooked footnote to explain David’s use of anonymous sources:

Anonymous sources used in this article have provided information to PJM over the past two years that all proved to be verifiable through publicly available legal documents, databases, professional background checks, and time-stamped social media posts. Sources have expressed fear of threats by Omar and her supporters — and we have been able to verify the threats. See Preya Samsundar and David Steinberg’s coverage of Guhaad Hashi, who was convicted of a stabbing shortly before becoming a key member of Omar’s campaign — during which he posted several threats, including a video, towards local Somalis who spoke up about Omar.

My own sources are well aware of him. The footnote applies to my sources as well. One of them provided me the mug shot of “Guhaad H Said” (below). I am advised that the Guhaad Said identified in the Pioneer Press story is the friend of Ilhan Omar.

If you wanted proof Biden isn’t in charge of his own administration, here it is…

By Thomas Lifson at American Thinker:

The same media establishment that colluded with the Democrats to cover up Joe Biden’s dementia in order to get Donald Trump out of the White House are now providing cover for his obvious status as a puppet for unseen handlers.  This is an extraordinary moment in history, with the American people kept in the dark about who is actually in charge of the Executive Branch during a period of multiple grave crises in foreign affairs, the economy, and public health.

A mere 32 seconds’ worth of video depicting the end of Biden’s address to the nation’s governors proves that he is not in charge of his presidency.  He indicates that the plan was for him to take questions, beginning with one from the governor of Utah.  (The oddity of a POTUS planning in advance the questioners at the end of events, including press conferences, is a separate and disturbing issue.  Scripting so closely suggests an inability to handle spontaneity and stage management of Q&A that is unseemly.)

But, as you will see, someone else decided that Biden was not going to follow that plan.  My guess is that he was showing signs of incoherence, of the phenomenon known as “sundowning,” where a dementia patient loses coherence as the day wears on.

But whatever the cause of the change of plans, it is crystal-clear that Biden is not calling the shots at his own public event.  Someone else — a female voice off camera — shuts down the questions, and Biden just sits there, looking back and forth and grinning stupidly as he obeys instructions from someone powerful enough to make him backtrack in public.

Biden’s grin has been one of his principal political assets throughout his long career.  In his decline, when he gets into trouble and is not angry, it seems to be his default posture.

If a Republican president were to behave similarly, the media would scream that something is very wrong when a POTUS shows that he is not in charge of his own presidency.

Defeating American Marxism

By Bruce Colbert at American Thinker:

Poland successfully, nonviolently defeated Marxism and is a model for defeating Marxism in America today.  Poland, faced with the Marxist destruction of their heritage and society, created a heritage and spiritual renewal movement, which led to Solidarity and to the end of communist rule in Poland and subsequently in the nations of Central and Eastern Europe, between 1979 and 1991.

For Marxists, the destruction of America’s heritage and society is absolutely necessary.  The Communist Manifesto states, “Communism… acts in contradiction to all past historical experience… can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.”  Therefore, the chaos in society, the chaos at the southern border, the chaos in schools, the chaos in the family, the chaos in the economy, and the chaos in workers fired over vaccine mandates are all intentional.  These are manifestations of the “forcible overthrow.”

Karl Marx was not an atheist — he hated God in whom he believed.  Marx wrote, “I wish to avenge myself against the One who rules above… We make war against all prevailing ideas of religion.”  Marxism is anti-God.

The terms socialism, communism, and Marxism all lead to the same collective ownership of property, resulting in the same false utopia of poverty, starvation, misery, and death.  Socialism has been discredited for decades as both an economic system and a political system.  Yet, it persists, as a religion.  Communism is a transcendent, anti-God philosophy, and as such, is a form of religion — an anti-God religion.

Marxist teachers indoctrinate students in the religion of communism by teaching them to hate themselves, hate one another, hate their parents, hate their country, and hate their heritage.  Marxists blame society’s ills and people’s personal difficulties on politically incorrect groups (i.e., traditional religious capitalists). Students are taught to view statements from such groups as forms of oppression and to stand up to “evil.”

Communist dogmas taught in schools are gaslighted by media and Hollywood propaganda.  Five generations of indoctrinated students are now the leaders of America’s cultural institutions, which are canceling politically incorrect individuals.  Big Tech participates through deplatforming and censorship of news content in social media.

A heritage and spiritual renewal movement in America, as occurred in Poland, would reestablish for the people of America their authentic history, culture, and identity.  This movement engages communism by countering communist themes with traditional American spiritual and material themes at the personal level.  The movement actively reminds Americans that we are a people formed by a distinctive history and culture, and if we own that again, we will have spiritual tools of resistance that Communism cannot match.  Americans are not who Marxists say they are in Critical Race Theory, the 1619 Project, or the Zinn Education Project.  Traditional Americans are not oppressors and can be heard.  The indoctrination of students can be ended.

One insurmountable obstacle for communism is that it runs counter to facts and reality.  The mirage of the communist religion, promising peace, unity, equity, and utopia, can be countered by applying facts and reality to its premises, exposing its fallacies, and by showing its personal effects on people.  Communism has its hold on people at the personal and spiritual level, and it is at this level that material and spiritual truths can speak to people, and bring them back to reality.  Truths speak to the heart and emotions, as well as to the mind and intellect.

Truth and one’s relationship with the Creator provide more love, joy, peace, and meaning than does Communism.  Communism hinders people from using their talents and abilities to the fullest, and from achieving their purposes in life.  Communists believe that the killing and destruction required by communism are justified as the gateway to attaining a communist society and a permanent, universal utopia.  Yet the utopia is a mirage, and the killing and destruction are not justified.  Communism has killed 100 million people — it is an anti-human, anti-God death cult.

Communism appeals to the basest aspects of humanity: pride, envy, selfishness, and laziness.  Communism is the quintessential postmodern religion because you are your own god, and you decide what is good or evil so that you can do as you please.  Communism is a choice between evil and good — a decision made at the spiritual level.

This movement first defeats communism by reaching people’s hearts and by winning the debate.  With this foundation, communism can be defeated institutionally, as was done in Poland.

On June 2, 1979, one million Poles gathered around Victory Square in Warsaw, Poland.  During John Paul II’s sermon, these Poles suddenly raised their voices and sang: “We want God!”   John Paul II’s meetings demonstrated to Poles how numerous they were, as he encouraged them not to be afraid — God gives strength.  The heritage and spiritual renewal movement laid the foundation for Solidarity.  Citizens worked together in a unified manner, organized, conducted strikes, held rallies, developed strategies, provided underground media and education, and formed Solidarity for trade union representation and then political representation to change the government.

Likewise, citizens in the United States working together in an organized manner can: reclaim school boards, end Critical Race Theory, defund Marxists, and redirect universities, corporations, foundations, institutions, and government programs through BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction) campaigns; practice patriotic commerce, sue media corporations for defamation, recall woke district attorneys, vote, run for office at all levels of government, pass election integrity and anti-woke legislation, share the truth, and commit to a personal nonparticipation in lies.

The spiritual element provides the essential foundation for defeating Marxism.  The important organizational and political elements build on this foundation.  In Poland, the heritage and spiritual renewal movement arose organically.  Likewise, in the United States, 330 million people with the spirit of American ingenuity can lay this foundation, and build this movement for a free, happy, and prosperous society, grateful to its Creator.

It is time to organize and go on offense, using the successful example of Poland.  The time to act is now.

George Soros Is An Evil Dude

by Jeff Dunetz | Jan 30, 2022 | CrimePolitic AT THE LID:

Here we go again! Every year or so, someone tells the truth about Billionaire George Soros and gets accused of pushing Antisemitism. They ignore the fact that George Soros is a real-life Dr. Evil. The only difference is that he’s more dangerous and not funny. In fact, he is scary. Soros disrupted Democracy and Capitalism across the world. But when people criticize the Evil Dude, they are met with liberal claims of Antisemitism. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson is the latest victim of false liberal shaming.

Soros is often referred to as the “man who broke the bank of England” in the 1992 Sterling crisis. During that crisis, he made $1 billion in one day at the expense of British taxpayers and drove Britain into a recession as large numbers of businesses failed and the housing market crashed.

In 2002 Soros was convicted by a French court of inside trading relating to the sale of French bank Société Générale. Soros was accused of acting on insider information obtained from the French central bank and the German Bundesbank. The insider information was those banks would not support the British pound, despite a pre-existing arrangement. Given that Mr. Soros is no fool, the British believe it is highly doubtful he would have made such a colossal bet without knowing with high certainty that the Germans would not reduce their interest rates.

Soros has a history of trading on confidential information obtained from political sources. For instance, he was convicted by a French court of having insider knowledge about a takeover attempt of a major French bank. His conviction was upheld in 2006, and he had to pay a multimillion-dollar fine.

Soros’ money has been banned from Hungary. He is persona-non-grata in much of Eastern Europe because he’s used his money to corrupt the political processes in more than a handful of foreign nations. As the 2018 election period in Hungry started,  the government used vast amounts of large public posters with the photo of Soros, along with continuous support from government-owned countrywide media. All because Soros was encouraging and aiding illegal immigration.

Hungary passed what the government dubbed the “Stop Soros” law, named after Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros. The new law, drafted by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, creates a new category of crime, called “promoting and supporting illegal migration” — essentially, banning individuals and organizations from providing any kind of assistance to undocumented immigrants.

In 2017 Macedonia “declared war” on Soros as the financier and his minions in USAID (money allocated under Obama)   financed a left-wing agenda to divide the nation and bring a socialist-Muslim coalition to power. Early March of that year saw tens of thousands of Macedonians holding peaceful rallies for national unity, an end to chaos-creating Soros/USAID largess, and the removal of the U.S. Ambassador. One of the most common posters said, “No Soros Government.”

One of the reasons American liberals rush to defend Soros is that he is a significant funder of the party and its candidates. . Per open secrets, Soros uses his personal funds to donate to Democrats and their party. Still, the most significant volume of cash comes from the organizations he runs, such as Soros Fund Management or Open Society Foundation. In the 2020 election, Soros broke his own record ‘by pouring more than $50 million into Democratic campaigns and causes just months before the November election.”

And those who aren’t happy with the Attorneys General across the country who have no desire to prosecute crime, you can thank the Soros campaign to elect far-left prosecutors.

The most ironic part of the pro-Soros cabal is that any criticism of the Evil Dude is caused by Antisemitism. Despite his Jewish birth, Soros is a Jew-hating Jew (I don’t use the term “self-hating” because most people in that category like themselves). The Evil Dude supports anti-Semitic causes around the globe. Here are some examples as reported by NGO Monitor:https://e8d375260f15746a6af788c0d16bc8f7.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

Since 2001 the Soros network has given over $1,400,000  to Adalah. Adelah describes itself as an “independent human rights organization,” but it doesn’t believe Jews have human rights. Adelah has been instrumental in falsely accusing Israel of war crimes on numerous occasions, including contributing charges to the now-disgraced Goldstone Report and the fake 2002 report of an Israeli massacre in Jenin. Both have been outed as frauds. Adalah has also called on world governments to sever or downgrade their diplomatic relations with Israel.

Another favorite for Soros money is I’lam, a Nazareth-based Palestinian media center. I’lam claims its mission is “to empower the Palestinian media landscape and society by promoting equal access to the Israeli media, encouraging a fair information flow, and fostering professional standards.” Not stated in their mission is that I’lam creates and promotes allegations of media bias in the Israeli media as part of its political agenda. I’lam received about $1,030,000 from the Soros organization.

The New Israel Fund (NIF) is also listed as a recipient of Soros’ love, at least  $837,500 since 2009. The NIF donates money groups dedicated to making false charges about Israel and/or promoting the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which denies the right of the Jewish people to have a nation in their eternal homeland. The NIF funds anti-Semitic organization such as Adalah, B’Tselem, Breaking the Silence, Physicians for Human Rights, Social T.V., and 972 Magazine, just to name a few. IN RECENT YEARS, the NIF has been allowed to participate in N.Y.’s Israel Day parade because of their desire to have a “big tent.”  Their big tent is a rotten tent which is why I stay home.

Women Against Violence (WAV): received $1,430,000 of Soros money. They are another group supporting the anti-Semitic BDS movement.

Along with advocating for the BDS movement, the organization, Mada al-Carmel – Arab Center for Applied Social Research, received $707K from Soros was one of the creators of the Haifa Document in 2007. The Haifa Document calls for a “change in the definition of the State of Israel from a Jewish state” and accuses Israel of “exploiting” the Holocaust “at the expense of the Palestinian people.”

Soros helped fund The Woman’s March group, an organization run by anti-Semites.

And let’s not forget that Soros helped to fund the creation of J-Street, the faux pro-Israel organization that is actually anti-Israel and supports the BDS movement. If you don’t want to believe me about J-Street, listen to  Democrat Alan Dershowitz.

Why would Soros, a Hungarian Jew who lived through the Holocaust, spend so much money on the anti-Semitic BDS effort to de-legitimize the Jewish State? The best explanation comes from my late friend and teacher Barry Rubin:

On November 7, 2003, almost five years after the television interview, Soros made a rare appearance at a pro-Jewish Jewish event, a conference of the Jewish Funders Network. Asked about antisemitism in Europe, Soros responded that it was the result of the policies of Israel and the United States, and particularly of President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. “If we change that direction, then antisemitism also will diminish,” he said.

Once again, his words led somewhat in the wrong direction as some of the attendees were outraged. After all, blaming Jews for antisemitism is an old argument of antisemites

A 2016 document leak by DCLEAKS also revealed Soros’ association with anti-Israel and pro-BDS organizations.

Not all of the conspiracy theories about Soros are true. But his funding of liberal prosecutors, attacks on international currencies, and his support of anti-Semitic causes have been proven. So don’t try to tell me that criticizing Soros is an act of Jew-Hatred. Criticize Soros for being the Evil Dude.

NY Times: China finds COVID restrictions are a useful way to control people

JOHN SEXTON Jan 31, 2022 at Hot Air:

Ju Peng/Xinhua via AP

In China, stringent rules instituted to prevent the spread of COVID have given the CCP a whole new set of ways to monitor and control people. A human rights lawyer named Xie Yang learned this the hard way back in November. He wanted to visit the mother of an activist named Zhang Zhan who had been sentenced to four years in prison for criticizing China’s handling of the COVID outbreak. Suddenly, his health code flipped to red, meaning he couldn’t travel.

It turns out that being able to quarantine people is a handy thing for an authoritarian state to be able to do.

Emboldened by their successes in stamping out Covid, Chinese officials are turning their sharpened surveillance against other risks, including crime, pollution and “hostile” political forces. This amounts to a potent techno-authoritarian tool for Mr. Xi as he intensifies his campaigns against corruption and dissent.

The foundation of the controls is the health code. The local authorities, working with tech companies, generate a user’s profile based on location, travel history, test results and other health data. The code’s color — green, yellow or red — determines whether the holder is allowed into buildings or public spaces. Its use is enforced by legions of local officials with the power to quarantine residents or restrict their movements…

Residents sign up for the system by submitting their personal information in one of a range of apps. The health code is essentially required, because without it, people cannot enter buildings, restaurants or even parks. Before the pandemic, China already had a vast ability to track people using location data from cellphones; now, that monitoring is far more expansive.

The front lines of this effort to control every individual are what China calls “grid workers.” This state media article praises their effectiveness at literally checking in with every household within their grid:

Climbing 20 buildings and checking more than 300 households in one day is a common practice for He Yushan, a grid worker in Xincheng Community, Cuqiao Street, Wuhou District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province.

The grid that He Yushan is in charge of has 7 courtyards and 516 households, including 1,610 rental houses, with a permanent population of nearly 4,000 people, and the workload of investigation is heavy. After the outbreak, he was often busy until late at night, replying to hundreds of WeChat messages every day, and putting his mobile phone next to his pillow when he slept.

Starting from January 23, He Yushan, together with community staff and other grid workers, went door-to-door to “climb the grid” every day to check for people with fever, and went to the streets to register people who had recently returned from key areas in the jurisdiction. Personnel information to ensure that the investigation work “does not miss one household, many people”.

The epidemic is the order, the prevention and control is the responsibility, and the grid is the battlefield.

But COVID isn’t the only thing the CCP is fighting. So turning these tools to control the movement of people with views they don’t approve seems like an obvious next step.

Wang Yu, a well-known human rights lawyer, says she believes the authorities have weaponized the health code to try to stop her from working. In November, as she was returning to Beijing after a work trip, she tried to log her travel on her health code app, as required. But when she selected Jiangsu Province, the drop-down menu listed only one city, Changzhou, where she had not been and which had just recorded several infections. If she chose that, she would most likely be refused entry to Beijing.

In the past, security officers had to physically follow her to interfere with her work. Now, she worries, they can restrict her movements from afar.

Once a government gains additional power over citizens, it rarely wants to give it up. And in China, there’s no one in a position to change Xi Jinping’s mind. In fact, disagreeing with him in public is the sort of thing that could get you quarantined if not arrested. Share Tweet
