Today’s USA….Where Dems Rule To Conquer Truth and Civility!

Dennis Prager: Why My Friends and I Had More Wisdom When We Were 12 Than College Students and Faculty Have Today

Why My Friends and I Had More Wisdom When We Were 12 Than College Students and Faculty Have TodayThe average 12-year-old student at a yeshiva has more wisdom than almost any student at Harvard or most other universities. (A yeshiva is an Orthodox Jewish school with an emphasistownhall.com

[…] Wisdom can sometimes be a product of aging but given how many old fools there are and how many young people have some degree of wisdom, it should be clear that wisdom, like math, a foreign language and any other discipline, must be taught. Only then is one likely to become wiser with age. Otherwise, a young person without wisdom is most likely to become an old person without wisdom.

When America was more religious, wisdom was taught to young people. This is another reason to fear a thoroughly secularized America — we are producing a nation of fools. The proof lies in our universities. The most secularized institution in America is the most foolish institution in America.

My good friend for the past fifty years, Mark Waldeland, sent me the above paragraphs having to do with wisdom…..that is, THE DISAPPEARANCE OF WISDOM IN TODAY’S AMERICA! Mark and I were teachers at Minneapolis’ Edison High School at the time….He teaching English, and I teaching Russian and Senior Social Studies.

A Harry Vakos was its principal, but moved up to become an assistant superintendent of Minneapolis schools a couple of years after approving me as teacher at Edison.

He admitted he hated me….(Because I taught the Russian language, had been to the Soviet Union on a national grant in August of 1966, and I had become a popular teacher a Edison.) The grant I received was, in part, the political mood of educational superiors, teaching Russian was winsome, but not to Greek man, Principal Vakos and Assistant Superintendent of Minneapolis Schools! (The teachers’ union had gone on strike one March, and I had the opportunity to share two speeches on why we were on strike….However the strike was against Minnesota state law.

It turned out, I was the only teacher fired due to the strike. I loved teaching because I had so many outstanding teachers when I went into high school at St. Paul Minnesota’s CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, 1948-1952, freshman through senior….(NO ONE WAS STUPID ENOUGH THEN TO CLOSE FRESHMEN BOYS FROM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL where they couldn’t cause any trouble at any lever whatsoever, but would be sexual savages picking on girls as elders in JUNIOR HIGHSCHOOLS!

Education in Minnesota’s metropolitan areas began to collapse into leftwing fem fascism in the early 1970s AND HAVE NEVER RECOVERED SINCE!

Remember Red Saul Alinsky Time? (Not old enough?)

The New Age of Orwellianism | Opinion

ON 7/29/22

Community organizer and left-wing social activist Saul Alinsky wrote, in his 1971 book Rules for Radicals, that “he who controls the language controls the masses.” Alinsky, whose work profoundly influenced at least one notable fellow Chicagoan, Barack Obama, was in that quip channeling George Orwell’s famous dystopian novel, 1984. “Newspeak,” the language of Orwell’s fictional single-political party superstate, was a tool devised for monitoring the people’s communications, prosecuting “thoughtcrimes,” and ultimately controlling and dictating the people’s very beliefs.

Conservatives have taken pleasure in poking fun at the modern Left’s “Orwellian” tendencies—perhaps too much, actually, as overuse of the accusation has had the effect of limiting its potency. But as the woke ideology metastasizes within the American Left like the cancer it is, and as censors increasingly clamp down on anything sniffing of dissent to the regime’s orthodoxy, it is now clear that we are in a new age of Orwellianism. In this new age, the regime and its enforcers pursue the suffusion of its orthodoxy at any cost, gaslighting dissenters into not believing their own lying eyes.

This week, new governmental data revealed that the American economy, measured by gross domestic product, contracted for the second straight quarter. That was, up until perhaps a week ago, the universally accepted definition of what constitutes a “recession.” This was not a partisan issue; indeed, well-known liberal, Democratic Party economists have frequently defined recession in precisely these terms. Back in 2008, President Joe Biden‘s current National Economic Council director, Brian Deese, stated: “Of course economists have a technical definition of recession, which is two consecutive quarters of negative growth.” And in 2019, top Biden economic adviser Jared Bernstein said that a “recession” is “defined as two consecutive quarters of declining growth.”

Democrats are now singing a different tune. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has stubbornly refused to concede that America is now in an economic recession. Deese apparently also disagrees with his old self of 2008: Following the release of the data evincing the second straight quarter of economic contraction, Deese stipulated that we are “certainly in a transition,” but also added that “virtually nothing signals that this period…is recessionary.” The ruse is transparent and obvious to the point of comedy. As famed investor David Sacks tweeted: “A lot of people are wondering about the definition of recession. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth if a Republican is president. The definition is far more complicated and unknowable if a Democrat is president.”

Democrats similarly seem interested in changing the definition of “inflation,” which currently sits at four-decade highs and is disproportionately responsible for Biden’s dismal job approval ratings and Democrats‘ unfavorable political outlook this fall. The widely accepted economic definition of inflation is when there is too much money chasing too few goods. The way to tamp down inflation is thus to limit the money supply and/or increase the production of goods.

Just this week, around the same time as when the U.S. formally entered a recession, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) finally reached an agreement on a version of the White House’s long-sought after “Build Back Better” domestic initiative. But Democrats renamed the bill: It is now not called Build Back Better, but the Inflation Reduction Act. And the revised bill includes new government expenditures to the tune of nearly $400 billion in energy- and climate-related spending. Authorizing such a fiscal boondoggle is the precise opposite of limiting the money supply. It is the logical equivalent of trying to put out a fire with a blowtorch.

Remarkably, it is the same ideologues who are eager to change the well-accepted definitions of “recession” and “inflation” who remain perplexed as to what exactly a “woman” is. In March, then-Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, during her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing to replace the retiring Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Courtpointedly refused to define what a “woman” is. Her excuse was that she is “not a biologist.” Related, in Matt Walsh’s excellent new documentary, “What Is a Woman?,” the myriad “gender studies” professors and gender ideology-bewitched “doctors” interviewed by Walsh invariably define a “woman,” in circular fashion, as being “someone who identifies as a woman.”

Whether it is a Supreme Court justice herself or the vogue flatulence that now constitutes “gender studies” in the American academy, then, the Left is incapable of defining what a “woman” is. That confusion appears to be ubiquitous: Lia Thomas, the biological man who has been wreaking havoc in women’s collegiate swimming, was even nominated for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Alinsky would be proud of such an imperious enforcement of regime-approved orthodoxy; “he who controls the language controls the masses,” after all.

The Left’s fundamental problem is that its haughtiness, fervor, and zeal for gaslighting us sane Americans is belied by its unpopularity. It is curious that the Left can talk and act this way when its most notable avatar, Biden, is as severely unpopular as he currently is. Perhaps the Left will be chastened by its impending November defeats at the ballot box. But don’t bet on it.

COVID taught 1M parents there are alternatives to failing public schools

By John Stossel at Newsweek:

July 27, 2022

The school choice movement continues to grow each year.
A million parents during the pandemic decided to take their child out of public school.Xinhua News Agency via Getty Ima

At least the pandemic had a silver lining. It taught parents that there are better alternatives to government schools.

When COVID hit, bureaucrats in control were eager to close schools. Many closed them if just one child tested positive, even though COVID is little threat to kids.

Union teachers seemed eager to be paid not to work. Los Angeles teachers secured a contract that said they will “not be required to teach classes using live video conferencing” and won’t be required to “provide instruction more than four hours a day.” Nice work if you can get it.

More than a million parents chose to leave the government system. They spent their own money to educate their children in private and religious schools.

Others tried home schooling. Many had been skeptical but now discovered that their kids learned more, and their family life was enriched by teaching at home. The education establishment sneers at home schooling, but home-schooled students, even though they are more likely to be poor, score 30% higher on SAT tests. They also do better in college, and they are less likely to drink or do drugs.

All children in the state qualify for school funds as a result of the bill.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey passed an expansive school choice bill.

Finally, even within government systems, school choice grew.

Kansas and Missouri expanded access to charter schools. Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Iowa, South Dakota, Utah and Tennessee expanded Education Savings Accounts, which help parents try private schools.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed what his office called “the most expansive school choice legislation in the nation.” It gives money to families that they can spend on private school, home schooling, micro schools, tutoring or any other educational service that meets the needs of kids. Any kid can qualify. The state simply gives families what they would have spent in the public school (up to $7,000 per child). That’s much more generous and simpler than other states’ choice plans.

In San Francisco, voters recalled three school-board members. Apparently voters did not like that they kept public schools closed and, instead of figuring out how to reopen, obsessed over renaming schools called Washington or Lincoln.

McAuliffe was defeated by Glenn Youngkin in his election.
Terry McAuliffe told Virginia voters that parents should not choose what their children learn in schools.

In Virginia, voters rejected Gov. Terry McAuliffe after he said, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.” His opponent, Glenn Youngkin said, “Parents should be in charge of their kids’ education.” Youngkin won.

“For far too long in K-12 education, the only special interest group has been the teachers unions,” wrote the Reason Foundation’s Corey DeAngelis in The Wall Street Journal. “Now, there’s a new interest group — parents. They are never going to unsee what they saw in 2020 and 2021, and they’re going to fight to make sure they never feel powerless when it comes to their children’s education again.”

Of course, union leaders hate the choice movement. American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten calls it racist. “The real ‘pioneers’ of private school choice were the white politicians who resisted school integration,” she wrote. Today’s choice programs are “polite cousins of segregation.”

Critics of school choice have called it a "racist" practice.
A poll showed that 74% of African Americans and 71% of Latinos support school choice.

But that’s nonsense.

“Don’t tell me school choice is racist!” says Denisha Merriweather, founder of the new group Black Minds Matter. Choice opponents “are implying that parents, especially lower-income, Black parents, should stay trapped in public schools that have failed their children for decades,” she notes. “We need a new system . . . empowered by parents.”

School choice increases diversity, adds Liv Finne of the Washington Policy Center’s Center for Education. “Modern-day school vouchers lead to more ethnic and racial integration in the schools, not less.”

One poll showed that 74% of African Americans and 71% of Latinos support school choice.

Choice opponents are mostly unions, establishment Democrats and frightened suburban Republicans.14

What do you think?

But now lots of innovation has begun. One example: STOP Foundation 4 Education gives awards to educational innovators. Its $10 million will go to nonprofits, entrepreneurs and community organizations that provide more educational options. Recipients include Rock by Rock, an education-software company, and STEMuli, a game-based learning company.

School choice is good for everybody but unions, socialist bureaucrats and the tired education establishment.

It’s one good thing accidentally created by the pandemic.

Biden Might Be Best For Our Today’s America To Sit Inside A Cabinet Near A Left Wing Drawer!

Biden’s Cabinet: Let us Count the Ways

By Steve Feinstein at American Thinker:

That “President” Biden’s administration is the most inept, counterproductive, outright laughable in post-World War II American history is beyond question. One hardly needs to list out all the failures, missed goals and broken promises that we’ve suffered through in the last two years.  From generationally high inflation to skyrocketing energy prices to product shortages to rampant illegal immigration, Biden’s pathetic collection of Keystone Kops advisors and operatives could not have done a better job of destroying American culture, ruining the economy, gutting our defenses, and robbing us of international respect and influence if they’d tried.

Much of the blame can be laid at the feet of his sorrowful collection of incapable, bumbling cabinet members. To a person, they are simply a pitiful assemblage of special-interest box-checkers, apparently chosen for their appearance and demographic makeup, as opposed to their actual expertise and experience.

Mercifully, we won’t go through an analysis of every one of them here. Let’s just look at a few and see how they’ve played their role in harming the country with their utter incompetence and their hyperpartisan behavior.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg

This appointment could be the most egregious of a truly notable group of incompetents. Mayor Pete was loved by the rank-and-file Democratic primary crowd not because of any worthwhile talent or accomplishment, but because of his choice of his life partner’s gender. He is the ultimate box-checker, the quintessential example of valueless progressive virtue-signaling. Buttigieg has never had the slightest experience in matters of complex international logistics, yet here he is, occupying a high-profile cabinet post and drawing inordinate negative attention to a normally invisible position by his having messed things up so badly.

Empty store shelves, container ships backed up, airlines canceling flights, inane statements like, “Just buy an electric car,” and more mark his totally deficient stewardship over what should be a relatively easy, straightforward post. No one can even name a past Secretary of Transportation, but everyone knows Mayor Pete because things are so screwed up. And for no good reason.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken

Where do we even start? Rolling over to China in the Administration’s first high-stakes face-to-face meeting in Alaska in March 2021? His part in the completely disastrous and humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021? His total lack of personal gravitas with a demeanor that screams of soft weakness? As America’s diplomatic face to the world, Blinken is the utter embodiment of the term “pushover.”

Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen

There was a great TV ad a few decades ago, where a sleazy salesman was on the phone with a disgruntled customer, caught in an obvious lie about his substandard product, saying, “I have… uh…. total confidence… that… uh…. everything will work out just fine” as copious, comical amounts of sweat poured from his brow. That’s Yellin, as she admitted that this horrific inflation would not be transitory after all, her earlier pronouncements to the contrary now exposed as the transparent partisan lies everyone knew them to be all along.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas

Mayorkas insists that our border is secure and there is no illegal immigration crisis. His greatest skill is that he seems to lie more effortlessly, more easily in front of the camera than any of the other cabinet members. He has probably done more damage to the country than any other cabinet member by his willingness to betray America’s fundamental, long-term interests by encouraging the administration’s intentional illegal immigration invasion.

This choice is particularly rich. Energy — which really means the management of nation’s exploration and production of fossil fuels — is a very complicated and demanding position. Unlike many other cabinet posts, the selection of Energy Secretary demands that the individual have actual, real expertise and experience in that area. This is not a position for “on the job” training. An in-depth knowledge of worldwide energy market/economic dynamics, a true understanding of the U.S. auto market, the ability to balance competing economic vs. environmental factors, the capability to be mindful of political considerations without being blindly beholden to them to the detriment of the country, all these skills are essential in order for the Secretary of Energy to effectively discharge his responsibilities.

In fairness to Granholm, very few of her predecessors have satisfied all those requirements either. But most have at least done little harm, unlike her. Granholm apparently has no real knowledge of anything and simply parrots the Green line that, “Fossil fuels are bad, buy an EV, drive past the gas station.” That’s our national energy policy? Really? The conflicting considerations of worldwide oil supply and demand, domestic exploration/production, our national refining capacity, fuel distribution/logistics, political/environmental issues, all of these must be weighed in proper proportion in order to create an energy policy that works to the country’s benefit. Granholm gives every indication that she knows none of this whatsoever, and worse yet, doesn’t care. Her aim is clearly just to prop up the current Administration’s political position.

We could go on, with cabinet member after cabinet member. Are any of them experts in their field? Being from Massachusetts, the memory of Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh as a glib-talking, heavily-accented Boston mayor totally bereft of any substantive accomplishments is all too clear to me. What notable, innovative enhancements has he brought to the national labor market in his current position? None. Raimondo? Becerra? The bungling Lloyd Austin? Cardona? Fudge? Any of the others? They are all box-checking political rewards.

Attorney General Merrick Garland

Garland is the exception in this group. He has actual professional qualifications to be attorney general. He was a well-established U.S Circuit Court of Appeals judge in D.C. and has had a long career in the legal profession. Unlike all the other cabinet members, Garland’s education, experience, and expertise in his field are beyond question.

Unfortunately, his obvious qualifications make him the saddest, most pathetic political hack of a group of truly notable hacks. Garland can’t fall back on the “I didn’t know any better” or the “Well, it’s not my area” excuse. He does know better and it is his area. When he initiates a fraudulent, arbitrary prosecution against a former Trump associate or refuses to prosecute flagrant crimes against conservative Republicans, there can be no doubt that Garland is carrying out a one-sided, partisan legal strategy of the worst kind. He is so prejudiced and vengeful that he makes Eric Holder (known for being “Obama’s wingman”) and Loretta Lynch (she of the infamous Clinton runway meeting) look like Atticus Finch by comparison.

The fact that Merrick Garland is the only Biden cabinet member with any semblance of professional credentials and that he misuses those credentials in the extreme manner in which he does says everything one needs to know about this absolute embarrassment of a presidency.

“I’m shooting for 3”: Kavanaugh assassin planned to target at least two other justices — to save Roe

ED MORRISSEY Jul 29, 2022 at HotAir:

AP Photo/Patrick Semansky, File

The assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh had a much wider scope than first reported. The FBI’s investigation into Nicholas Roske has uncovered an explicitly political motive for the murder plan, as well as a wider target selection. “I’m shooting for 3,” Roske texted a pal as his plan to salvage Roe:

The California man accused of plotting to assassinate Brett M. Kavanaugh spoke of killing two more conservative justices in a bid to alter Supreme Court votes for years, according to an FBI affidavit filed this week in court.

“Im gonna stop roe v wade from being overturned,” the suspect, Nicholas Roske, 26, wrote in an online message to an associate.

“What u tryna do,” the associate asked.

“Remove some people from the supreme court,” Roske allegedly responded, before adding, “I could get a least one, which would change the votes for decades to come, and I am shooting for 3.”

Roske wasn’t just “shooting” for three, either. According to the New York Post, Roske had hoped for a more personal murder experience when it came to the Supreme Court justices:

The California man charged with the attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh googled the “most effective place to stab someone” before showing up at the conservative judge’s home with a stockpile of weapons, according to newly released details.

The revelation was included in an FBI search warrant obtained by Fox News that shed light on other disturbing internet searches by Nicholas John Roske, 26, and alarming conversations he had with online strangers ahead of his alleged ill-fated plot to kill Kavanaugh.

“Roske said that he used his Reddit account to ask individuals, who were unknown to him, questions in order to refine his plan to kill the Justice,” authorities said in the warrant application, according to Fox.

He searched the web for things like “how to be stealthy,” “assassin skills” and “most effective place to stab someone” in the weeks before his alleged June 8 assassination attempt.

These reports raise a veeeerrrrryyyy interesting point. Roske doesn’t appear to have been a loner — in fact, for a murder-plotter, Roske seems downright chatty. Reddit isn’t some unknown corner of the “dark web” either. And yet, we’ve been told that the first the FBI or local police knew of this plot was when Roske called 911 to turn himself in.

He wasn’t exactly discreet, after all, as the Washington Post points out from the affidavit:

Going back to at least a month before his flight, according to the FBI, Roske made incriminating statements over social media and in internet searches. On May 10, the affidavit alleges, he posted text on Reddit that stated: “Would Kavanaugh being removed from the SC help women long term?” …

On June 6, Roske posted a question on Reddit using what the FBI calls an abbreviation for high-value target: “How difficult is it to covertly take out an HVT?”

Granted, Reddit has a prodigious amount of chatter, and it might be tough to find a murderous needle in a field of trolling haystacks. But other users certainly noticed and engaged with Roske on these questions and comments. Did no one contact law enforcement about this threat?

Clearly, this wasn’t just a case of celebrity envy. This was a political assassination plot on Roske’s part, one with very particular political ends aimed at multiple targets. If the politics on this were reversed, we’d be hearing about this case endlessly as an example of right-wing domestic terrorism. In contrast, the media has barely covered this case despite its parallel to other violent actions in protest of the Dobbs decision organized by Jane’s Revenge and the intimidation campaigns of Ruth Sent Us that identified the justices’ locations for Roske.

Where’s Merrick Garland and his dot-connecting now? Where’s Joe Biden and the White House? Where are national media outlets on this story, other than on this kind of nuts-and-bolts affidavit-content coverage?

Today’s America’s Vulgarity, Cruelty, Crime of SEX CHANGING CHILDREN!

JULY 28, 2022 BY JOHN HINDERAKER at Power Line:

The “trans” fad has devastated the lives of many people, especially children. Will there ever be an accounting? In the U.K., there are signs of one: the National Health Service’s Tavistock gender identity clinic for children is being shut down.

The NHS is shutting down its gender identity clinic for children after a review found that it failed vulnerable under-18s.
It will be replaced by regional centres at existing children’s hospitals offering more “holistic care” with “strong links to mental health services”.

Tavistock’s Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) clinic has been accused of rushing children into life-altering treatment on puberty blockers.

The paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, who is leading a review of the service, issued a series of recommendations today for a radical overhaul of how the NHS treats young people who are questioning their gender identity.

She found that the Tavistock clinic was “not a safe or viable long-term option” and that other mental health issues were “overshadowed” when gender was raised by children referred to the clinic.

Basically, Tavistock was run according to a “trans” activist ideology, and therefore destroyed many lives.

So there is at least the glimmer of accountability in the U.K. How about here in America? Hans Bader sums up where we stand in a long post at Liberty Unyielding. You should read it all; links are omitted in the following excerpts:

The FDA recently added a warning to the puberty blockers used by transgender children, reports The Post-Millennial. The warning was added after the FDA identified “a serious potential side effect” that can “cause cause a dangerous surge of spinal fluid pressure in the brain,” as well as “headaches, nausea, double vision, and even permanent vision loss.”

While puberty blockers have a long history of different uses, including the chemical castration of violent sex offenders, they are now most commonly recognized for the off-label treatment of gender dysphoria because of their mechanism to stop the production of estrogen and progesterone.

Proponents of puberty blockers to halt the development of secondary sex characteristics of adolescents with gender dysphoria claim they are “safe, effective and completely reversible.” Even the Biden administration has perpetuated this falsehood. As it stands, there are no studies on the long-term effects of puberty blockers. In light of new evidence, Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) recently changed its stance on puberty blockers as being fully reversible to an admission that their long-term effects are unknown. The American Academy of Pediatrics is currently reviewing their policy on the use of puberty blockers for treating gender dysphoria.

Researchers have also found that puberty blockers stunted the height and impaired the bone mass density of children who wished to change gender. There is also evidence that puberty blockers have an adverse impact on cognitive functioning in children, with two studies finding that IQ may drop as a result of the medication. But perhaps most alarming, when a child takes puberty blockers at Tanner stage 2 (the first signs of puberty) and proceeds to cross-sex hormones, they will be sterilized (never able to have children) and never be able to achieve an orgasm.

Growing numbers of teenagers regret undergoing sex changes. At the age of 12, Chloe Cole decided she was transgender. At 13, she was put on puberty blockers and testosterone. At 15, she received a double mastectomy. But in less than a year, she realized she had made a terrible mistake. “I was failed by the system. I literally lost organs,” she said.

Much more at the link, including more instances of detransitioning patients who were rushed into sex change operations that they now regret.

How has this horror show come to be? I confess to puzzlement. Generally the Left is not hard to figure out. Leftists want power and money, and if you examine their policies with this in mind, they pretty much always make sense. But today’s gender hysteria is hard to understand within that framework. Unless the “trans” fad is essentially nihilistic: maybe the point is to discredit thousands of years’ worth of civilization, to alienate millions from the most basic elements of our culture, and to create a large army of dysfunctional, mentally, physically and emotionally crippled people, so that self-reliance becomes a thing of the past and government control is seen as the only alternative.

What Islam and the Left Agree On

By Mike Konrad at American Thinker:

What is a nation?  That is the question.

In the book of Genesis — whether you take it literally or metaphorically — a nation is essentially an extended family.  Genesis Chapter Ten, often referred to as the Table of Nations, lists the peoples of the Earth, from Israel’s perspective, along with their lineages. The number, apart from Israel, came to 70.

Each particular nation was traceable back to an ancestor.  Mankind was told to fill up the whole Earth, but disobeyed, and started to build the Tower of Babel, where, in Chapter Eleven, the languages of men were confounded, and the peoples were forced to scatter and separate.

Again, whether taken literally or metaphorically, the principle is that the deity did not want a uniform world, a one-size-fits-all culture and language, precisely because — given the nature of men — they will conspire to do evil.

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. —Gen. 11:6

There was a purpose for this scattering.  It was to keep men out of trouble.

There is real divine wisdom to this.  Things may run slower when nations exist, but they run smoother.  With mankind broken up into little portions or nations, each competing against one another, there are checks and balances in the world, with the chance of a major dictator taking over being reduced.

Leaders do not see it that way.  One nation creates a successful society, a better way of doing things, in contrast to its neighbors, and decides to conquer.  The reasons are multifarious.

The conquest can be simply for loot — the Spanish sought gold.  It can be for glory — think France.  It can be for revenge — Alexander the Great wanted to avenge the Greeks on the Persians.  Or it can be just sheer monstrous brutality — think the Assyrians or the Nazis.

Of course, the most pernicious motive is that, being the carrier of a superior way of life, the empire will be improving the lives of the people conquered, and thus doing them a favor.  The Romans thought they were bringing good order to the world.  The British thought they were bringing decency and law.  A lot of American foreign policy has been shipwrecked trying to impose democracy on people who don’t want it.

It is this last motive which often breaks and bankrupts empires.

Though the Romans did bring good order to the north, with the promise of increased trade, prosperity, and roads, Herman (Arminius) informed the Romans that the Germans did not want their help, at the Battle of the Teutoberg Forest.

The English never quite understood why the Highland Scots kept revolting, and they ended up having to ethnically cleanse them during the Highland Clearances.

Thomas Jefferson expected Canadians to flock to the American cause during the War of 1812.  After all, didn’t America bring the promise of good Republican government and liberation from British monarchial tyranny?

What went wrong?

Putin can’t seem to understand why Ukrainians might not want Russian leadership.

Napoleon had massive success conquering Europe.  A lot of nations joined him.  His Grand Armée brought the ideas of the French Revolution, and a lot of those ideas were indeed better.  He liberated Jews from their ghettoes and broke the power of oppressive European nobility.  So why did Britain and Russia refuse to concede to his superior civilization?

The problem is that people are different.  They were meant to be different.  And sometimes, even if your society and way of doing things are genuinely better, conquered people don’t want to have improvements imposed on them, or have it rammed down their throat.  They’d rather do things their own way.

Like individuals, nations and peoples have different personalities.  They may be equal, but they are not identical, which is the problem with affirmative action.

Because of this natural tendency to resist homogenization, it will be impossible to quickly impose “improvements” on the world without dissolving the nation state.  Nation-states — when operating rightly — are an outer fortress that can protect the people from the outside world.

And to destroy the nation, Progressives have to destroy families.  The family is meant to be an inner refuge.  Yes, both nations and families can go toxic, but when they work right, they are a bulwark of freedom.  Indeed, families are at the core of nations.  Families beget tribes or clans, which beget nations.  It took England (the most modern nation at that time) centuries to break the clan system of Scotland.  Though the clans were highly dysfunctional, they still held out.

In the West, Progressives have pretty much advanced on the destruction of the family to the point where Europe is failing to reproduce its native stock.  European nations will soon be dissolved.

And then there is the issue of the economy.  It costs money to subsidize such idiocy, and empires always go broke.

America is all but broke.  China — the victim of its own brand of leftist tyranny — is broke.

Back in Europe, the Progressives had to import completely incompatible Muslims into the continent to replace — and that is the proper word — the declining German population.  Berlin is now the capital of Eurabia.  A sane person would have taken in the fleeing white Boers instead of letting them go to Russia.

The Boers are of Germanic (Dutch) and French stock.  Easily assimilable into Berlin.  Germany could have told millions of the Boers to come home.  Leave South Africa.  Isn’t that what the blacks wanted?  Instead, Angela Merkel took in millions of Arabs, because, after all, whites are evil.

France is 9% Muslim.  Ireland is now 20% foreign.  Of course, a lot of that is Polish, German, and British, all of whom would be highly assimilable, but Islamic numbers are increasing.

This is what the Progressives want: a disconnected society of broken families can be ruled by elites.  Destroy the family.  Destroy the nation-state.

Multiculturalism is a façade.  It is a lie meant to usher in a one-world order.  When nobody is related, everybody is dependent on the state and can be controlled.

But the playbook is also Islamic.

Unlike early American colonists — who brought in their own wives, thus keeping their root culture — when Islam conquers a nation, it sends in single men, who intermarry with the natives.  Within one generation, they produce a class of hybrid elites.  Religious, family, clan, and national ties are destroyed.  Once that is effected, Islam can take over.

Indeed, Islam does not have a concept of a nation, but rather an Ummah, an Islamic homeland.  ISIS ripped down national flags.  They wanted a one-size-fits-all caliphate.

[T]he latest edition of ISIS’ propaganda magazine, Dabiq, places a major focus on rejecting nationalism, presenting religion as the key unifying force for their “caliphate.”

This is why Israel has a hard time with the Palestinians.  While Palestinians may have a national identity, their chief identity is Muslim, and Muslims want an Ummah, a unified caliphate.

It seems that both Islam and Progressives use the same tactics to produce the same end.  Destroy the family to destroy national unity, and usher in a one-world order.  And they are both doing a very good job of it.

Islam will conquer Europe without firing a shot.

The Progressives and Muslims agree on everything but the nature of that final order.  They may be in for a surprise if a dictator steps in to take over the mess they both have created.

What is clear is that both Progressives and Muslims work from the same playbook.  They want population replacement, and familial destruction, to destroy families and nations.  They are the left and right hand of that same pair of gloves.

Nation-states are real.  They are an extension of the family.  Both Islam and the Progressives seek their destruction for the same reason.  They want a one-size-fits-all new world order.  Whether it be a liberal paradise or an Ummah, it is the paradise they seek.

A dictator will be the result.  When you seek to create heaven on earth, apart from Christ, you end up creating hell on earth.  We are watching the early stages of this implementation.

Did cancel culture stop Clarence Thomas from teaching at George Washington University?

Law students at George Washington University have been notified that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas will not be teaching a seminar this year. Thomas came under fire from some of the student population after the Supreme Court ruling on Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health was handed down. A petition was launched on June 26, two days after the Supreme Court’s ruling was announced. The discontented students demanded that Thomas no longer teach his annual seminar.

When the Supreme Court ruling on Dobbs came down, Thomas wrote a concurring opinion in the case. He called for a reconsideration of opinions protecting same-sex relationships, interracial marriage, and access to contraceptives. His opinion, which was not in the opinion of Justice Alito, alarmed abortion supporters who expect the conservative-leaning majority to further restrict personal freedoms.

The hullabaloo over Thomas teaching a seminar titled “Leading Cases in Context,” which he has taught since 2011 seems to have taken its intended toll. Thomas’ co-instructor Gregory Maggs sent an email to registered students notifying them that Thomas will not teach the seminar. More than 11,000 students and “community members” signed the petition for his removal. The university newspaper ran the story of Thomas’ withdrawal.

Gregory Maggs, who has co-taught the course with Thomas since 2011, stated in an email addressed to the class that Thomas is “unavailable” to co-teach the course in the fall, and Thomas is no longer listed as a lecturer on GW Law’s course list. Thomas’ withdrawal from the course comes a month after more than 11,000 community members signed a petition demanding his removal from GW, but officials declined to remove him from his role after he voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Unfortunately, I am writing with some sad news: Justice Thomas has informed me that he is unavailable to co-teach the seminar this fall,” Maggs said in an email obtained by The Hatchet. “I know that this is disappointing. I am very sorry.”

Thomas did not immediately return a request for comment. Maggs deferred multiple requests for comment to GW’s communications office.

“The seminar has not been canceled but I will now be the sole instructor,” Maggs said in the email. “For those of you still interested in taking the course, I assure you that we will make the best of the new situation.”

The university is not saying whether or not this is a one-time thing or if Thomas will be back in future semesters to teach the seminar. There has been no confirmation that the decision was due to the petition and pressure exerted by the students.

University spokesperson Tim Pierce said Thomas notified GW Law that he was “unavailable” to co-teach the seminar this fall.

“The students were promptly informed of Justice Thomas’ decision by his co-instructor who will continue to offer the seminar this fall,” Pierce said in an email.

Pierce declined to say if Thomas’ withdrawal is permanent or if the University expects Thomas to return to teaching in future semesters. Pierce also declined to say whether Thomas’ unavailability is related to the reversal of Roe v. Wade and the subsequent student protests against justice.

To its credit, George Washington University stood by Clarence Thomas and refused to bend to the demands of the angry mob. The university kept Thomas on its law school faculty roster. At the time, the university publicly defended Thomas.

“Because we steadfastly support the robust exchange of ideas and deliberation, and because debate is an essential part of our university’s academic and educational mission to train future leaders who are prepared to address the world’s most urgent problems, the university will neither terminate Justice Thomas’ employment nor cancel his class in response to his legal opinions,” leaders wrote Tuesday.

Ah, yes, the robust exchange of ideas. How refreshing. The purpose of the college experience is supposed to at least partly be to teach students to learn to listen and weigh both sides of an argument. Critical thinking is a necessary skill, especially in fields like law, right? How is a student expected to learn to argue a point if they never hear anything that goes against their personal beliefs? Hearing opposing views also expands the ability to figure out what their opinions are on subjects.

Imagine having the privilege of being taught by a Supreme Court justice in law school. By trying to run Thomas off campus, they are denying themselves a unique experience and access to an abundance of knowledge. Do abortion-supporting students only appreciate the success of liberals rising from humble beginnings and not conservatives? Thomas comes from very humble beginnings. He raised himself up from growing up in a shack with dirt floors and no electricity. He persevered and rose to the top of his career field. That should be celebrated. Instead, some spoiled brats accustomed to getting their way in conflicts have contributed to a loss of opportunity for other students.

Did the student protests contribute to Thomas’ decision? It isn’t being officially confirmed but it very likely did. The purpose of cancel culture is to intimidate its victim. I’m not saying that Thomas was intimidated by them, quite the contrary, but it is reasonable to think that in the time in which we live, he simply doesn’t want the hassle. He’s 74 years old. He’s been on the highest court in the land for decades. There are a lot of crazy people, some of whom threaten high profile people. Justice Kavanaugh and his family know that firsthand. Recent events have to have weighed on Clarence Thomas. Add to that the fact that his wife, Ginni, is being dragged into the January 6 commission’s investigation.

It’s too bad that things have escalated to this point. The biggest losers are the law students who will not be taught by Clarence Thomas. Let’s hope that in the future he will decide to go back to the campus and teach future lawyers.
