Decay, AND MORE DECAY WITH DEM AMERICA’S POLITICAL ROT!

The Astounding Saga Of Hamilton 68 Illustrates Scope Of America’s Institutional Rot

Thanks to Matt Taibbi’s most recent contribution to ‘The Twitter Files,’ we know the full extent of institutional corruption in the mind-boggling case of Hamilton 68.

EMILY JASHINSKY

The media fell head over heels for a shoddy propaganda operation spearheaded by an ex-FBI agent. Twitter, internally, understood the operation to be partisan hackery but never spoke out. Organizations full of influential ex-government officials promoted the operation. And it’s only thanks to Matt Taibbi’s most recent contribution to “The Twitter Files” that we know the full extent of institutional corruption in the mind-boggling case of Hamilton 68.

American intelligence operatives have a history of using credulous reporters to spread disinformation for political purposes. (Remember when President Nixon’s team forged cables about John F. Kennedy and tried to get them in Life? Or the fate of Jean Seberg and her baby, thanks in part to COINTELPRO and the Los Angeles Times?) We’ve learned more and more about this in the years after the Cold War, yet elite media outlets eagerly swallow tactical disinformation when it confirms their priors.

The consequence? Self-appointed disinformation police in government and media shape American politics with actual disinformation, crafted specifically to quiet dissent.

New Information

Given access to Twitter’s internal records by new CEO Elon Musk, Taibbi pulled the company’s communications surrounding Hamilton 68 and reported his findings last Friday. The project styled itself as a “dashboard” that tracked Russian disinformation on Twitter.

As Taibbi wrote, “The secret ingredient in Hamilton 68’s analytic method was a list of 644 accounts supposedly linked ‘to Russian influence activities online.’ It was hidden from the public, but Twitter was in a unique position to recreate Hamilton’s sample by analyzing its Application Program Interface (API) requests, which is how they first ‘reverse-engineered’ Hamilton’s list in late 2017.”

The files unearthed by Taibbi show Twitter’s internal audit of the Hamilton 68 list found it to be, in the words of former executive Yoel Roth, “bullish-t.”

“These accounts are neither strongly Russian nor strongly bots,” another employee said. What Hamilton 68 was passing off as foreign disinformation was largely legitimate speech from anti-establishment American tweeters. Here’s Roth again: “Virtually any conclusion drawn from [the dashboard] will take conversations in conservative circles on Twitter and accuse them of being Russian.”

The “dashboard” confirmed elites’ bizarre anti-Trump Russia-collusion narrative by secretly classifying as Russian activity political speech from Americans with whom they disagreed.

Who ran Hamilton 68? Created by former FBI Special Agent Clint Watts, the project was supported by the Alliance for Securing Democracy and the German Marshall Fund. That means a host of powerful former government officials with long histories in and around intelligence agencies promoted the shoddy research for years or, at the very least, were complicit in Hamilton 68’s work by lending their support. Watts himself is an NBC News and MSNBC contributor. (Bill Kristol is a member of the Alliance’s advisory board.)

Institutional Corruption

It gets so much worse on three fronts: academia, Big Tech, and media.

First, Taibbi notes the suspicious research was promoted uncritically by elite American universities, including Harvard and Princeton. Second, the files show Twitter declined to call out Hamilton 68 publicly, opting to “play a longer game here,” in the words of one employee who now advises Pete Buttigieg at the Department of Transportation.

Third, and most importantly, Twitter’s efforts to privately nudge reporters away from the story failed miserably. Taibbi found, “[Emily] Horne wrote several times that she had no luck in steering journalists away from these hack headlines. ‘Reporters are chafing,’ she wrote, adding, ‘it’s like shouting into a void.’” Horne works for the Biden administration as well.

This is a damning illustration of the institutional corruption rotting American politics and culture. You may wonder how ex-spooks could create a secret list, hide their results, pass off the research as legitimate, convince just about every major media outlet to run with the findings, convince elite universities to run with them, and keep Twitter quiet in the process. The answer is that some institutional powerbrokers are corrupt, some are inexcusably incompetent, and others are a combination.

Media Enable It All

If the media, however, had a semblance of the competence and virtue journalists claim to have, there would be much more incentive for powerful people in other institutions to stop behaving badly.

Watts and Co. did not make an honest mistake. When leftists at Twitter saw the same information, they immediately and literally called BS — privately, at least. Even their warnings could not dissuade dozens of journalists and politicians from blasting Hamilton 68’s findings to millions of Americans for years. This was an attempt to create junk science, hide the results with a laughable excuse, and use it to bolster a false narrative that discredited a political opponent.

Journalists did their part and took the bait. Bear in mind that NBC News and MSNBC have used Watts himself as a national security contributor for years, ignoring plenty of evidence that he was a dishonest propagandist using their airwaves to advance the interests of intelligence agencies. They actually used their own “disinformation” reporters to spread more disinformation.

My colleague Mollie Hemingway called this out all the way back in 2018, when the likes of Adam Schiff, Dianne Feinstein, and an astounding array of media outlets were promoting Hamilton 68.

“Hamilton 68 won’t let anyone review their dashboard to determine in any way if they’re tracking actual Russian propaganda bots, or just conservative Americans who, for instance, care about FISA abuse,” Hemingway wrote. “Yet Hamilton 68’s claims are repeated uncritically by a media that asks no questions about the methodology.” (Twitter seemed to be misrepresenting its internal knowledge at the time, as well.)

Five years ago, making that point was met with attacks from anti-Trump activists who engaged in amateur intellectual gymnastics to classify every argument they disliked as Russian propaganda. The effect was to turn down the volume on people who were undercutting the campaign against Trump, empowering their own false narrative. Taibbi’s reporting vindicates the people who pushed back.

‘The Democrats’ plan is to attack any reasonable restriction on abortions as “extreme.” ‘

JANUARY 30, 2023 BY JOHN HINDERAKER at Power Line:

RIDING ABORTION TO VICTORY

The Dobbs decision upended last November’s election. Democrats successfully rallied their pro-abortion core and apparently convinced a lot of swing voters to turn out in favor of abortion. In Minnesota, where I live, abortion was the decisive issue that allowed the Democrats to sweep the Minnesota House, the Minnesota Senate (by a single vote) and the governorship.

Democrats apparently think there are more victories to be won by promoting unrestricted abortion. Breitbart reports:

A Democrat political committee centered on state legislatures is creating an affiliated non-profit which is set to launch a pro-abortion ad campaign in Virginia, “an early example of Democrats continuing to lean into the issue after a strong midterm performance,” Politico reported on Monday.

The Democrats’ plan is to attack any reasonable restriction on abortions as “extreme.”

“The new ad, which comes from the State Democracy Action Fund, raises the possibility of an abortion ban in the state, according to details shared first with POLITICO. ‘Will Virginia pass an extreme abortion ban?’ the ad’s narrator asks, before attacking GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin and ‘extremist lawmakers’ for wanting to ban abortion in the state after 15 weeks of pregnancy,” according to the report.

The 15-week proposal is what generally prevails in the more liberal European countries. There is nothing “extreme” about it.

The Democrats, on the other hand, want to go far beyond most voters’ views on the issue, if you believe the polls. Thus, for example, the Minnesota House and Senate have passed, on party line votes, the “PRO Act.” The PRO Act is short and simple: it provides an absolute right to abortion up to the moment of birth. I suppose we should be grateful it doesn’t permit fourth-trimester abortion.

But wait! There is a second bill working its way through Minnesota’s legislature that apparently would legalize killing babies that have been born alive. SF 70, among other provisions, repeals a long list of statutes, most of which relate in some way to abortion. Among the laws to be repealed is this one:

145.415 LIVE FETUS AFTER ABORTION, TREATMENT.

Subdivision 1. Recognition. A potentially viable fetus which is live born following an attempted abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person under the law.

Subd. 2. Medical care. If an abortion of a potentially viable fetus results in a live birth, the responsible medical personnel shall take all reasonable measures, in keeping with good medical practice, to preserve the life and health of the live born person.

I assume this bill will soon become law, too, as the Democrats are caught up in a wave of euphoria over abortion. Will they really be able to ride the issue to new and greater electoral victories? I don’t know. I am pretty sure most people disapprove of abortion up to the moment of birth, and a large majority certainly don’t favor infanticide. But, given the bizarre manner in which the press reports on matters relating to abortion, perhaps only the hard core Democrats who thirst for ever more abortions will understand how extreme these laws really are.

We Had To “Study” Edgar Allan Poe IN ENGLISH CLASS, 1950 when I was a sophomore in high school

JANUARY 31, 2023 BY SCOTT JOHNSON at Power Line:

MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE

I take it there is no news advancing the Biden classified documents matter today. Assuming our readers were intimately familiar with the works of Edgar Allan Poe, I may have mystified some by adapting the title of Edgar Allan Poe’s fantastic story “MS. Found In a Bottle” for several of my posts on the Biden matter. (“MS.” is an abbreviation of “manuscript.”) Published by Baltimore’s Saturday Visiter newspaper on October 19, 1833, “MS. Found In a Bottle” won the prize for best story submitted to the newspaper.

Poe had submitted a linked package of tales. The discerning judges found all the stories submitted by Poe worthy, but singled out “MS. Found In a Bottle” for the $50 award. According to the judges, Poe owed it to his own reputation and that of Baltimore to publish the entire volume.

Once upon a time, young readers enjoyed Poe’s stories. Poe’s “tales of terror” are both horrifying and unforgettable; they bear the stamp of deeply felt nightmares. Poe’s “tales of ratiocination” are fascinating as detective stories, and Poe was of course the inventor of the genre. Not even being required to read Poe in school could destroy the pleasure provided by his work. Does anyone now read Poe, either voluntarily or otherwise?

Well, maybe The Raven — not the poem, silly, the 2012 action movie starring John Cusack as Poe that was previewed by the Christian Science Monitor’s Molly Driscoll. I dreamed that it might do for Poe what Oprah’s book club did for John Steinbeck and a host of others worthies, near worthies, and contenders. I don’t think it worked out that way.

Thirty years ago Professor Kenneth Silverman published his compelling account of Poe’s life, Edgar A. Poe: Mournful and Never-Ending Remembrance. In Silverman’s telling, Poe’s life becomes the counterpart to Poe’s tales of terror. Poe lost both his mother and father by the age of three, was divided from his brother and sister to be raised by a family friend, and suffered the mortal illnesses and deaths of every other person he loved in the course of his life with the sole exception of his mother-in-law, to whom he was unfailingly loyal.

At the same time, Poe struggled manfully with alcohol and destitution. Nevertheless, by the time he died at the age of 40, he had created the impressive body of fiction, poetry and literary criticism that stands as his monument. With great artistry Silverman conveyed the headlong rush of his life by keeping the narrative going without division into chapters. Silverman’s reconstruction of Poe’s life is something of an inspiration. It turns out that Poe was a hero of a kind, just not the Hollywood action kind.

(Note: I never have been able to read books. My dyslexia was too overwhelming…but I wanted me to learn when I was in school. My teachers did too. I think it was in 1950 when the CLASSIC COMICS arrived in Minnesota’s Twin Cities…..AS I REMEMBER, I BOUGHT ABOUT THIRTY CLASSICS at ten cents a piece that year we had to read ENGLISH LITERATURE and I loved the stories so much even though life was tough.

We had to read Edgar Alan Poe during our American year.

(I delivered a paper route near where I lived with 70 receivers…… the St. Paul Pioneer Press in the morning, and the Dispatch after school. The Korean War had broken out! People went to Church or Synagogue then. I sang in our Lutheran choir.

Sunday’s were for |GOD and family then! ghr)

A Cold Spell From Leftist Minnesota!

Republicans have nicknamed the legislation the “blackout bill.”

Minnesota House passes 100% clean energy billalphanews.org

And this: https://www.mccl.org/post/senate-votes-for-abortion-up-to-birth-in-minnesota

“Minnesotans don’t support elective third-trimester abortion. They just don’t. But that’s what this extreme bill entrenches in our state law: the right to abort any baby for any reason at any time up to birth,” said MCCL Co-Executive Director Cathy Blaeser. “Under this bill, even babies who are old enough to live outside the womb and to feel excruciating pain have no protection from lethal violence. The extremism of H.F. 1 puts Minnesota in the same category as just a handful of countries around the world, including North Korea and China.”

And this, of course:

Bill Clinton WAS A CENTURY OF CIVILITY RELATIVE TO HORROR HILLARY!

JANUARY 30, 2023 BY STEVEN HAYWARD at Power Line:

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: HATING BILL CLINTON

Hating Bill Clinton was thought to have been an obsession of the right, but as I have been tracking for a while, the left has been turning against him for a long time now.

And over the transom from Princeton University Press comes the galleys to a forthcoming book, A Fabulous Failure: The Clinton Presidency and the Transformation of American Capitalism, written by two professors who lean to the left (is it really necessary to say that?).

From the introduction:

Today, however, Clinton’s presidency wins little respect. Few liberals want to return the Democratic Party to that era because so many see his presidency as a betrayal of the progressivism that was once the hallmark of the New Deal and the Great Society. Bill Clinton was the first Democratic president since FDR to win two consecutive terms, but that accomplishment seems merely a product of his accommodation to an ideology that privileged trade liberalization, financial deregulation, and privatization of government services, while tolerating the growth of class inequalities. President Clinton has been labeled “the Democratic Eisenhower,” the popular leader of a political party whose electoral success was predicated upon a wholesale accommodation to the ideology of its op-ponents. Clinton’s 1996 declaration that “the era of big government is over” seemingly ratified Reaganite conservatism and in the process trans-formed Republican politics and policy into a hegemonic ethos that liberated global finance and eviscerated Keynesian liberalism. . .

The Guardian’s George Monbiot concluded his story on the rise of neoliberalism by asserting, “The man who sank Hillary Clinton’s bid for the presidency was not Donald Trump. It was her husband.”

Nothing so clearly ratifies the Democratic Party’s sharp lurch to the left in recent years than this kind of revisionism that reviles the Clintons. I fully expect that sooner or later leftists will openly express regret that Clinton wasn’t convicted in his impeachment as it would have paved the way for the certifiably cuckoo Al Gore to become president.

Finally—a leftist book that is going to be fun to read! Pass the popcorn.

“Hunter offered to sell intelligence on Russian oligarchs to the US aluminum firm Alcoa Inc. for $55,000”.

JANUARY 30, 2023 BY SCOTT JOHNSON at Power Line:

MS. FOUND IN A LAPTOP

Miranda Devine buries revelations extracted from Hunter Biden’s laptop inside today’s New York Post column ostensibly devoted to public opinion on the Biden classified documents matter. Devine observes that “[t]here are several clues on the laptop that Hunter may have been selling classified information to his foreign paymasters” and cites the “uncharacteristically cogent email about Ukraine written by Hunter Biden in 2014…” I wrote about Devine’s discovery of the “uncharacteristically cogent email” last week in “Getting there.”

Devine follows up in her column today. She reports that “there’s more where that came from” — i.e., from the laptop:

For instance, documents on the laptop from 2011 show that Hunter offered to sell intelligence on Russian oligarchs to the US aluminum firm Alcoa Inc. for $55,000.

In internal discussions over Hunter’s proposal, a senior executive at Alcoa suggested the information was valuable because it “would not otherwise be on Government Affairs team’s radar.”

As I previously reported, Hunter offered to “provide Alcoa with statistical analysis of political and corporate risks, elite networks associated with Oleg Deripaska (OD), Russian CEO of Basic Element company and United company RUSAL.”

Alcoa had just signed a metal supply agreement with RUSAL.

Hunter promised to provide a “list of elites of similar rank in Russia, map of OD’s [Deripaska’s] networks based on frequency of interaction with selected elites and countries.”

In an email to Daniel Cruise, Alcoa’s then-vice president of government and public affairs, on June 3, 2011, Hunter offered, “a little better sense of the product by attaching some of the raw data that is produced through the elite mapping procedure.”

Five days later, Cruise’s colleague at Alcoa, senior analyst Pei Cheng, wrote: “I don’t believe the data analysis is worth the full $55,000. I think the most valuable piece for us would be the list of Russian elites connected to OD [Deripaska] that would not otherwise be on Government Affairs team’s radar, including various Russian Committee Heads, Union leaders or Ministers.”

How Hunter, 52, a raging drug addict with a voracious appetite for cash during much of his father’s vice-presidency, got access to classified information, is a matter of national concern.

It would be easy to overlook Devine’s discussion of the 2021 documents in Hunter Biden’s laptop, as the mainstream media undoubtedly will. I wanted to bring it to the attention of readers who have been following our coverage of the Biden classified documents matter.

Fox News is helping the Democrats’ Biden document narrative

By Lewis Dovland at American Thinker:

When it comes to the Biden document scandal, Fox News, as the opposition media, should not be banging the same gong that the leftist media outlets are striking with fervor. And yet it is. That’s not good news.

President Biden’s days as a politician are numbered, not because some confidential documents were ‘discovered’ in suspicious circumstances, but due to the “Big Picture.” If you want to understand what is going on, start with the result the leftist globalists desire and work back to the event at hand. Right now, they want Biden out because he no longer serves their goals.

For the four years after 2016, Democrats failed to promote anyone who could beat Trump. By 2020, they had no qualified (meaning ‘able to win’) candidates in the wings. They were stuck nominating and sheltering Biden solely to defeat Trump, boosting him in the primaries and through to his victory. Other acts towards Trump’s permanent defeat were the Russia hoax, the two sham “impeachments,” the January 6 committee, and the Mar-a-Lago raid.

Biden, though, is imperfect, and Democrats must move Biden out. He is no longer needed; his purpose is fulfilled. But how to do it?

Whoever ends up completing Biden’s term is the “incumbent” in the 2024 election. Dems understand that it cannot be Kamala for obvious reasons. Wait and see how creative the pressure will be on her to resign.

But moving Biden out is fraught with trouble. If just a fraction of the allegations about Biden are true, he can be impeached on many fronts. The problem is that other people are involved in those matters. Those crimes cannot be used without damaging some players in the Deep State, the party, or the intelligence services, and possibly exposing just what they have been doing.

Image: Joe Biden. YouTube screen grab.

So you must destroy Joe with a solo act that touches no one; namely, illegally possessing classified documents. Think about it—Biden’s lawyers found the first batch of documents and turned their own client in! Then, like a child’s game of Whack-A-Mole, documents keep popping up, some from the same places in which previous documents were found! With the deluge of new ‘finds’ swatting him almost daily, Joe must feel a bit like Tippi Hedren in Hitchcock’s The Birds, just wishing it would all stop.

The leftist media have picked up this ball and, instead of defending Biden, as is their wont, are ensuring Biden’s downfall. This should be a major clue for those paying attention.

Oddly, Fox News, which should be the political opinion opposition, dutifully reports each of these new findings with breathless glee as if electricity were just discovered.

What Fox is doing makes no sense because Joe is toast. There is no nullification benefit for the opposition to making him ‘toastier.’ The left is already doing the job of removing him from office. Nevertheless, Fox News is playing the role of the Democrats’ huckleberry. (If you’re wondering, the phrase “I’m your Huckleberry” means “I’m your guy/gal, and I understand your goals, and I’m here to help.”). Why is it doing this?

It’s good (important, even) that Fox reports the facts about the documents. However, the amount of time devoted to focusing on the document issue means Fox is amplifying a story that can only support the Democrat agenda. And lets them avoid having to delve into the true story of the power of the leftist globalist agenda that drives it.

In that agenda, we are seeing a slow-motion coup of a sitting presidency so that those pulling the strings can manipulate their desired candidate into office in 2024 while not harming any of their players. That is the big story and is a subset of the global Big Picture.

We should not be gleeful that Biden is being taken down but should be alarmed that our entire system is showing there really is a “man behind the curtain,” as Dorothy Gale learned in Oz. What’s happening behind the curtain is not a friend to America or to freedom. That is the story.

While this action is expected from the ‘usual suspects’ in media, it indicates that Fox News is going soft on its role of being opposition media. This trend got a noticeable start in April 2022, when the station stopped interviewing Trump.

Fox’s embrace of the mainstream narrative does not bode well for America, and that’s true whether Fox is on board with or afraid of the agenda. We’re in trouble if Fox abandons its long-standing role as a major media outlet pushing back against globalism, and attacks on the constitution, family, and faith.

“The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.”

Beware Of The Confused Hinderaker’s Leftist Lies About President Donald J. Trump!

JANUARY 29, 2023 BY JOHN HINDERAKER at Power Line:

DOES TRUMP NEED DONORS?

“Donald Trump has officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign. He is entitled to take a shot at another term, but his country and his party would be far better served if, for once, he put their interests ahead of his own ego. Given his history, though, we shouldn’t be surprised.

Charles Gasparino’s piece in the New York Post is headlined: “Donors slow as the realization hits that Trump can’t beat feeble Joe Biden.”

[B]ased on my random polling of [Republican donors] in recent weeks, they all have something in common: They don’t want Donald Trump to run for president in 2024. They say this not out of pure disdain. They loved Trump’s policies, the low taxes, fewer regulations and his anti-wokeism. They loved Trump’s willingness to fight.

Yet they fear, intensely, that even a feeble leader like Joe Biden, cowed by the left of his party on every policy matter, will win in 2024, and win easily if Trump is the nominee.

I think any plausible Republican other than Trump would beat Biden in 2024, but Trump would almost certainly lose. It is hard to overstate the level of antipathy toward Trump among millions who otherwise are Republican or swing voters.

[Biden’s] approval ratings suck. And yet the Dems kicked some real ass [in 2022], adding to their Senate majority and almost keeping the House. The GOP disaster was then capped off by the circus that surrounded the selection of Kevin McCarthy as the next speaker.

Is this Donald Trump’s fault? The GOP donor class thinks so because while he remains powerful with a lot of GOP voters, he’s a supremely flawed national leader, as every election since he won the presidency in 2016 shows.

That is an important point. With Trump seen as the party’s leader, the GOP did poorly in 2018, 2020 and 2022. I am not sure what more it will take for Trump’s die-hard partisans to realize that it is time for new leadership.

Based on my own conversations with Republican donors, fewer than one in ten want Trump to run again. But that bridge has been crossed. Which raises the question: does Trump need donors? He has plenty of money, although I don’t think he has spent much of it on his own or anyone else’s campaigns. He also will do well with grass roots fundraising. But how badly can he afford to be out-spent by the Democrats if he gets the nomination?

I think money in politics is generally overrated, but we can’t ignore the fact that the Democrats are rolling in it. Republicans are routinely out-spent across the country, in my state by as much as ten to one. I don’t think Trump can beat Biden in any event–he lost in 2020 and has done nothing to improve his standing since then–but if many donors sit on the sidelines, the election could be a catastrophe, for the Republican Party and for America.” …………

WHERE IS THE HINDERAKER EVIDENCE TO HIS BLAB AGAINST TRUMP AS PRESIDENT?

Note from Glenn regarding America’s President Donald J. Trump as picked on by Republican John Hinderaker at Power Line. Mr. Hinderaker is a Conservative and usually exercises truth and common sense as a writer. However, he seems to be a registered liar when his gossip utters ugly this and that whenever he is referring to President Donald Trump……the person perhaps, but not the President.

Why do you preach gossip regarding President Donald J. Trump, not evidence of Presidential evil?

I have followed CLOSELY Presidents since Harry S. Truman…I came from a Republican family and remained so, in the general, for I taught Social Studies in high school along with Russian for more than ten years….back when TRUTH WAS CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL TO TEACHING TO THE BETTERMENT OF AMERICA! John Kennedy, regardless of his personal enjoyments, WAS AN OUTSTANDING AMERICAN AS PRESIDENT WHEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

President Trump managed a number of social shadows while he was running around in his New Jersey business efforts with women which ruined his marriage, the mother of his children at the time. I remember well when Donald Trump became candidate as a Republican he had a good chance of beating the leftist Dems’ newsprint that runs America’s papers.

Is our American voter too ignorant or fascist to remember the evil our fascistic Nancy Pelosi Dems falsely caused this President during his tenure AS PRESIDENT?…..DO FASCIST DEMS REMEMBER THEIR BURNINGS IN WASHINGTON D.C. VERY CLOSE TO THE WHITE HOUSE? And, there is a lot more of fascist threats and burnings attacking innocent PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP!

What’s your angst regarding President Donald J. Trump, John Hinderaker? I’ve been to the USSR on two occasions when I used to speak fluently….for I taught Russian in high school for twelve years. (No! I wasn’t a Communist, John! …but I did vote for John F. Kennedy when he had his chance…..my only DEM…but a good one!

Please, John Hinderaker, let me know what causes the Trump tears near your mouth when he was President! ghr

“if Cruz and the attorneys general impugned by the California State Bar speak out, the corrupt press may not have any choice but to report on the ridiculous theories underlying the disciplinary attacks on Eastman”.

California Would Disbar Ted Cruz And 18 Attorneys General If It Could

BY: MARGOT CLEVELAND at the Federalist:

Ted Cruz bros out with Donald Trump

This is what happens when state bars use disciplinary proceedings to conduct lawfare against political opponents.

Author Margot Cleveland profile

MARGOT CLEVELAND

Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and the attorneys general from 17 additional states should all be disbarred, according to the reasoning of the disciplinary complaint the State Bar of California filed Thursday against former Trump campaign attorney John Eastman. That detail is one of many buried in the 35-page, 11-count disciplinary complaint made public yesterday in the latest lawfare attack on attorneys who deigned to represent Donald Trump.

State Bar of California’s Chief Trial Counsel George Cardona announced on Thursday the filing of disciplinary charges against Eastman, allegedly arising from Eastman’s engagement “in a course of conduct to plan, promote, and assist then-President Trump in executing a strategy, unsupported by facts or law, to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election by obstructing the count of electoral votes of certain states.” The press release announcing the disciplinary charges further claimed that Eastman “made false and misleading statements regarding purported election fraud,” that provoked a crowd into assaulting and breaching the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The 11 charges against Eastman prove troubling throughout, with the State Bar of California proposing to discipline Eastman for presenting legal analyses to his client, Trump, and for speaking publicly on his views about the election, with the bar even attempting to hold Eastman responsible any violence that occurred on Jan. 6. The disciplinary complaint also misrepresents numerous arguments Eastman and others made concerning the 2020 election, falsely equating claims of violations of election law with fraud.

But it is count two of the disciplinary complaint, charging Eastman with “seeking to mislead a court,” that exposes the California State Bar as a kangaroo court.

“On or about December 7, 2020, the State of Texas filed a Motion for Leave to File Bill of Complaint in the United States Supreme Court, initiating the lawsuit Texas v. Pennsylvania,” begins count two of the complaint against Eastman. The complaint then explains that in that lawsuit, Texas argued the defendant states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin “usurp[ed] their legislatures’ authority and unconstitutionally revised their States’ election statutes.” As a remedy, Texas sought an order from the Supreme Court to “enjoin the use of unlawful election results without review and ratification by the Defendant States’ legislatures and remand to the Defendant States’ respective legislatures to appoint Presidential Electors in a manner consistent with the Electors Clause.”

Eastman, on behalf of then-President Trump, sought to intervene in the Texas v. Pennsylvania case, and in that motion, Eastman “expressly adopted the allegations contained in the Motion for Leave to File Bill of Complaint filed by Texas.” In adopting the allegations Texas made, Eastman, according to the California State Bar, “misl[ed] the Supreme Court by an artifice or false statement of fact or law,” in violation of California’s “Business and Professions Code” that governs attorneys’ conduct in the Golden State.

Under the California State Bar’s reasoning, then, Texas’ attorney general who filed the motion likewise “misled” the U.S. Supreme Court, as did the attorneys general of the 17 other states that supported Texas’ motion for leave to file a bill of complaint. So too would have Sen. Ted Cruz, had the Supreme Court agreed to hear the motion, as he had agreed to argue the case on Trump’s behalf in that circumstance.

While count two represents but one of the 11 distinct charges levied against Eastman, it most clearly exposes the logical conclusion reached when state bars use disciplinary proceedings to conduct lawfare against political opponents.

To date, the bars have limited themselves to targeting just a few attorneys working for Trump, with the D.C. Bar pursuing Rudy Giuliani and Jeff Clark, in addition to the California State Bar’s attack on Eastman. But there is no limiting principle to prevent the bars in other states from pursuing any politician with a law license who happens to represent the wrong person.

That is an extremely dangerous precedent, which is why tomorrow at a press conference called by Eastman’s legal team, some big legal names will condemn the move. The hastily called conference is expected to bring together former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III and John Yoo, a current professor of law at the University of California-Berkley, former general counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and former deputy assistant attorney general. Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman and former California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown, among others, are also expected at the conference.

Whether the legacy media will cover Eastman’s detailed response to the State Bar of California’s disciplinary complaint or bother to report on his press conference remains to be seen. But if Cruz and the attorneys general impugned by the California State Bar speak out, the corrupt press may not have any choice but to report on the ridiculous theories underlying the disciplinary attacks on Eastman.

George Soros THE EVIL! Fascist Dem Known For His Communist Drives

Top Soros Director is Frequent Guest at Biden White House

One of the highest-ranking executives with George Soros’ far-left Open Society Foundation (OSF) has been revealed to have close access to the Biden White House, according to newly-released records.

As reported by Fox News, the executive director of OSF U.S., Tom Perriello, has made numerous visits to the White House for private meetings and public events over the last two years. Perriello also sits on the board of Governing for Impact, and is part of Soros’ inner circle.

From May 2021 to September 2022, Perriello’s name appears 13 different times in the White House visitors’ logs; September is the most recent month from the logs that is available to the public. Of those 13 appearances, three different days had multiple appointments within the same day.

“Open Society is dedicated to advancing inclusive democracy and prosperity, and human rights, in the United States and around the world,” an OSF spokesman said in a statement. “Our leadership, like our grantees, actively advocate with policymakers to advance these goals, and that includes engaging with policymakers from both parties. Tom also has taken meetings on behalf of Open Society and in his personal capacity as a former Member of Congress.”

The logs do not detail who visitors specifically meet with, but they may include the names of the White House officials who book the appointments and greet the guests upon their arrival. One person who greeted Perriello at one of the meetings was Jordan Finkelstein, the chief of staff to Anita Dunn, a senior adviser to Biden. Others include race and ethnicity policy adviser Richard Figueroa, chief of staff for political strategy and outreach Rachel Chiu, and executive secretary of the National Security Council Yohannes Abraham.

In addition to Perreillo, other key figures in Soros’ inner circle have had increased access to the White House since Biden took power. Among them is Soros’ son Alex, the chair of OSF, who has made several visits to the Biden White House, including two separate meetings with Biden’s outgoing chief of staff Ron Klain.

Soros, a far-left European billionaire, has spent years building up numerous political organizations and nonprofit groups with the explicit intent of spreading radical left-wing ideas across the world, particularly targeting the United States. Groups like OSF and others promote far-left ideas such as open borders and the idea of global warming. Since Biden took office, Soros and his groups have worked closely with the administration to craft specific policy proposals that would lead to “transformative governance,” according to a statement from Perreillo’s Governing for Impact.
