Better Business with China by President Trump!

Trump Makes Real Progress with China While Dems Play Impeachment

President Donald Trump shakes hands with Vice Premier Liu He in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, Friday, Oct. 11, 2019. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)

The press conference, live on television, from the Oval Office concluding this round of China trade negotiations was one of the more fascinating events of recent years. Spin, real, or a combination, the love-fest between President Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, both characterizing this first phase of their deal as not just an economic agreement but an important step forward for world peace, was one of those rare inspirational moments. Could human life really be that way?

It’s easy to be skeptical–and probably wise with Turkey running roughshod through Syria at this very moment–but we can all be grateful for the possibility that things could be different.

The Democrats, of course, were having none of it. Trump, the first president in decades to negotiate seriously with China, to confront them in any way, must be impeached! Chuck Schumer, obviously panicked the public might realize that something of importance was actually being done by a government official (rather than endlessly investigating their opponents for illusory crimes), immediately took to Twitter with a warning before any details were released.

It’s rather a miracle, actually, that Trump was able to negotiate anything with so many domestic enemies out to get him 24/7. It couldn’t be more obvious that most Democrats and their media shills would rather Trump not succeed with China (or anything) if that meant his reelection. Forget the prosperity and peace of the nearly two billion citizens of both countries, not to mention the rest of the world, linked inextricably as they are to the two largest economies. Orange Man must go. Trump Derangement Syndrome has turned into a pathology more severe than paranoid schizophrenia. It’s as if whenever Trump appears the entire Beltway and media have a psychotic break.

Far more interesting than these new “nattering nabobs of negativism” is the question of how we actually do deal with China. Trump, or any American leader, has to walk a tightrope. We all know the evil side of the Chinese regime (well, except for some NBA players and coaches). But it’s the most populous country in the world and, even though it brutally oppresses its minorities, not to mention the democracy protestors, many views, submerged as they may be, exist among its people, even among the Communist Party leadership. (Look up Lin Biao, if you don’t believe me.) Xi is the maximum leader for life–until he isn’t.

It’s incumbent on us to find the better, more moderate parts of the regime and subtly encourage them (forming economic ties that work is one way) while still making sure that as Americans we see and sympathize with the cause of the democracy demonstrators. Thus far, Trump has done a rather accomplished job of this for a “diplomatic amateur,” letting his sharp criticism of the brainless, pandering comments of NBA managers Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich–their absurd and stunningly ignorant claims of human rights equivalency between the USA and Communist China–make clear his feelings about the protestors in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the president publicly praises depots like Xi and Kim, much to the consternation of the CNNs of the world. It’s a strategy, obviously. It’s not clear the extent to which it will work. But if it does even some of the time, it’s miles ahead of what his predecessors ever did.

YOUR WORLD WITH FASCISTIC PHIL CAVUTO

Arrogant, big mouth, cocky, Foxy, antiPresident Trump, Phil Cavuto,  seems to be one of the Fox News  fascistics who froth at their joy mouth to eliminate our American 45th President from the nation’s White House as soon as possible.

Is President Trump  too American for the business folks at Fox News?   Perhaps he can’t be controlled for he LOVES HIS COUNTRY JUST AS I And  MILLIONS OF AMERICAN CHRISTIANS DO!!!   He is not bought or otherwise controlled by BUSINESS, BIG OR INTERNATIONAL.  Is that what makes so many mouths of Fox “News” reporters and reviewers like Cavuto to cheat, distort, so often complain and/or squeal against the President at news hours?  Is it instruction from station leftists or personal?

Or is the American population under age 50 so uneducated, so obtuse to American existence at home and abroad, so drugged, Godless,  and lost in life bearing  no brains clear enough to handle learning right from wrong,  those vitally  important matters of civilized human existence?

Did or did not President Donald J. Trump, while talking on the phone with the President of the Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelensky,  utter any word or words wondering about  a serious rumor  that a flaky American Vice President’s son, a young man of many serious background issues, carped millions of dollars out of  Ukraine pockets to score a bit of  fuel business for the weak nation nearly crushed by papa Russia?

So what?    Major corruption was in the air.   How did millions of dollars wind up in the pocket of  Vice President’s troubled son?

Dem fascists wouldn’t hear of something so possibly TRUE.  These fascists and fascistics, almost fascists) are programmed to assault before, during, or/and, after such news…THEY OWN OUR PRESS!

Ancient American MILLIONAIRE, Biddy Pelosi, with countless fascist and fascistic Dem friends and allies, immediately turned to their press and television command worlds.  These fascistics  OWN parts of  the Wall Street Journal, and, outside of radio, nearly every  newspaper and television news communication apparatus in our American world.

If TRUTH had any value in today’s American lines of knowledge, business, and communication,  Democrat candidate for the Leftist American Presidency, Ditsy Vice President Joseph Biden should be confronted by law for possible corruption charges,  NOT TO LIVE IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

But TRUTH HAS NO MEANING AMONG  TODAY’S ADAM SCHIFF  ANIMALS DOMINATING OUR ONCE HONORABLE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.  THEY ARE EITHER MUTE, FOREVER LIARS, OR  FASCISTS OR FASCISTICS PLOTTING “GOOD BYE AMERICA!!!

UNTIL PRESIDENT TRUMP, WE WERE  ALREADY IN OUR CONGRESSIONAL TAR PITS…..ARE YOU TOO UNLEARNED TO KNOW IT?…..OR DO YOU LIVE IN A TODAY’S AMERICAN DEM  BODY WHERE TRUTH,  AND GOODNESS  NO LONGER EXIST?”

These Pelosi fascists of our day who own news television and America’s newsprint from the Atlantic to the Pacific dictate the news that  President Trump has committed a serious crime, one for impeachment and removal from office.   That is the way the fascist Left in power makes truth and knowledge disappear!  Enough noise must overwhelm their own leftist corruptions so their evil can never be reported,  exposed.

I fell in love with Donald becoming our American President,  I think it was August 6, 2015 at Fox center, when the Republican National Committee was plotting to get rid of Mr. Trump as its GOP Candidate for the Presidency……Fox’s Megyn Kelly plotting to get rid of him asap as a presidential GOP candidate listed a few difficulties he had had with some women in the news….asking him if this was the way he viewed all women, never asking any difficult responses from  any of Fox-approved Republicans.

Donald answered, “No, only Rosie O’Donnell.”   My love for Trump began.  My love for functional, staid Republicans diminished.   I have loved and admired Donald ever since!

I am 85.   Somewhere in my 50s  when Donald Trump was happily married to his first wife, well before his Hollywood business jaunt and its episodes I was captured by  a two hour television program about his life.   His was a totally different world from my very modest life teaching  high school Social Studies and Russian in Minneapolis or later on, garden landscaping after being fired by telling Truths about school system to the public.

In the television review Donald Trump  spoke highly of his dad and mom and his opportunities…..had attended two private schools, the second one, according to his dad,  for more discipline in learnings!

Did you know Donald Trump was a gifted athlete in a number of sports.   If I remember the television biography  correctly, when he graduated college, he was offered a contract by the New York Yankees….what else?   HE TURNED THE OFFER DOWN TO WORK FOR HIS DAD IN THE BUILDING BUSINESS.

I was aware Mr. Trump lost his close older brother to alcoholism….according to the biography…..apparently a  main reason our President abstains.

My own dad was Republican.  He was an athlete and a pharmacist.  I married a Democrat in 1957 and remained one until Ronald Reagan.   I did like President John F. Kennedy very much, but no one else in his peculiar family.

Hillary was, is purely evil.   And so are the censoring big business and racist  fascists and fascistics who have taken over today’s once honorable American Democratic Party.

Will 45th American President,  Donald J. Trump,  overcome the Rise of our American fascists and fascistics now dominating American education, communication, and political worlds?

Obviously we cannot know the future.  But, with the rise of our new leaders,  Donald J. Trump and our Dennis Prager spreading knowledge, freedoms, and exposing Truth, WE AMERICANS FOR FREEDOM HAVE A GOOD CHANCE!  ghr

P.S.   HAVE A WONDERFUL  SUNDAY!

Cjack, Glenn Wish “HAPPY SHABBAT TO ALL”

—President Donald J Trump: Our 21st Century Minuteman—

Joe Biden is on tape & video bragging about his blackmail of Ukraine’s President Poroshenko. And Biden has implicated Barack Obama!

This is a done deal; the corrupt, insane, dumb Biden has brought down the House of Jackass Cards! Yet, again, the corrupt Grandma Pelosi and her gang of Congressional misfits have been directed by Hillary and Obama to spring their “plan C” to again deceive the American people with this bogus “impeachment inquiry” to nullify Trump. But it’s all really to cover up the crimes of the Obama administration. The Biden/Obama blackmail of Ukraine’s President Poroshenko is one big DNC scandal the Democrats are trying to keep a lid on. Don’t let them!

President Trump’s telephone conversation with the new president of Ukraine does not in any way compromise Trump. The transcripts are there for the world to confirm the egregious conduct of the Democrats as well as their moral bankruptcy. The Democrats will not cease to fabricate tales to overthrow our duly elected President. Neither Obama nor Hillary will ever accept the win of the outsider Donald Trump.

Don’t forget George Soros in the background funding other enemies of the republic.

And the Ukraine government holds another key to the puzzle: The reason for the Russians $145,000,000 donation to the Clinton Foundation, following the Hillary/Obama sale (uranium one deal) of 20% of the US uranium deposits to Russia? The money was actually Putin’s purchase of access to, and favors from, the projected Hillary Clinton presidency. Bingo!

The seditious Hillary Clinton went to Moscow to ‘reset’ the button on US relations with Russia; of course, in favor of the Kremlin. Yes, she was there to bring good tidings to the Russians; she was there to seal the sale of American uranium to Moscow. She was to betray our country for a sum certain…$145,000,000!

And what about the $500,000 Bill Clinton received in Moscow from a group of Russian businessmen…for a speech…again after the Uranium One Deal?

We have to admire the fortitude, tenacity, courage, and patriotism of President Trump who has put country before anything else. President Donald Trump is nation’s 21st Century Minuteman!

Happy Shabbat to all. Do not despair; the God of Abraham is still on the watch.

The World War of My Childhood Began 80 Years Ago!

Victor Davis Hanson: Lies, betrayal and incredible surprises marked start of World War II 80 years ago

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/victor-davis-hanson-world-war-ii

Note from ghr:   I was 5  when the European part of  World War II broke out in 1939.

I became acutely aware of it by  the  Spring of 1942 when I began able to read the cutlines of the war photos of the  Sunday Pioneer Press rotogravure picture section of its Sunday newspapers, and  the newspaper’s  headlines  of the Pacific front that Spring.   “Battle at Midway”,  was my entry to become part of the war effort ,  playing serious war games with my neighborhood buddies thereafter until August, 1945 when it all finally came to an end.

I couldn’t read story books, both then and now, but, even then,  I could read a lot about real wars, draw maps,  read cutlines to pictures available anywhere between the 16th century Spanish invasion of Aztec Mexico  to  the Korean War.    I began collecting American state  road maps in 1942….and have about 200 of them still stashed away somewhere.

My dad was 41 years old in 1942…..too old to go overseas.   He became one of the local air raid wardens here in St. Paul….and with special helmet and vest practiced safety from air assaults twice a week from April  to September that year.   Our neighborhood house lights had to be out beginning from  dusk on to dark for an hour or two.

We also began our Victory Garden in two empty lots across the alley behind our garage.   My dad had agreed with the city to commit our family to be responsible for this national urban effort to support the war effort by providing food for  neighbors on our block.

The city would plow the fields for us….My dad signed a contract.   We were going to help the war effort.   I had two step cousins, sons of my German step grandmother, age 16 and 18 who had joined the navy shortly after Pearl Harbor, and were sent to the Pacific front.

As life moved on that April, after Mom, Dad, and I had done all of the plantings, from radishes to sweet corn, potatoes to peas and even egg plant and  okra, lettuce, and tomato plants to  kholrabi,  you name it,  we must have planted it.   They treated me as if I were an adult.

Honestly, I loved every minute of it.   I loved the exploring, the planting, the learning from and  with both my parents.   Dad, however, had to work six days a week,  pharmacist and manager of a downtown St. Paul Liggett Drug Company store.  Mom picked up a terrible  rash, so was confined to canning and the cooking world throughout the war.

I became king of the Victory Garden roost…..and in full truth, then and now, loved every moment of it.  I weeded, mulched, fertilized, watered, planted, harvested, often thinking I was helping  our war effort in a dreamy way.   (I’d dive bomb the Colorado potato beetles eating potato foliage with my right hand “Lockheed Lightening”  and bury these enemies  into dad’s last year’s grease collection from his car….which was by then stored away in the garage until the war was over.

That war made me become a high school teacher of Social Studies, History, and Russian…..until the schools began to collapse as teaching  knowledge  institutions in the 1970s.     I have worked in the plant world ever since….including this very day,  next week, next month, and next Spring, Godwilling,  at 85 years old!

GO CANADA! Hello the Squad!

GO CANADA !          (from Bruce and Arlene:)

Well Said Mayor Dorval, Quebec mayor.
“PUT SOME PORK ON YOUR FORK”

A commercial promoting pork says: “PUT SOME PORK ON YOUR FORK” The MAYOR REFUSES TO REMOVE PORK FROM SCHOOL CAFETERIA MENU AND EXPLAINS WHY:

Muslim parents demanded the abolition of pork in all the school canteens of a Montreal suburb. The mayor of the Montreal suburb of Dorval has refused, and the town clerk sent a note to all parents to explain why.

“Muslims must understand that they have to adapt to Canada, its customs, its traditions, and its way of life, because that’s where they chose to immigrate.

“Muslims must understand that they have to integrate and learn to live in CANADA

. “They must understand that it is for them to change their lifestyle, not the Canadians who, so generously, welcomed them.

“Muslims must understand that Canadians are neither racist nor xenophobic. Canada accepted many immigrants before Muslims showed up (whereas the reverse is not true, in that Muslim states do not accept non-Muslim immigrants).”

“Just like other nations, Canadians are not willing to give up their identity or their culture . ” And, if Canada is a land of welcome, it’s not the Mayor of Dorval who welcomes foreigners, but the Canadian people as a whole .

“Finally, they must understand that in Canada with its Judeo-Christian roots, Christmas trees, churches and religious festivals, religion must remain in the private domain.”

The municipality of Dorval was right to refuse any concessions to Islam and Sharia.

“For Muslims who disagree with secularism and do not feel comfortable in Canada, there are 57 beautiful Muslim countries in the world, most of them under-populated and ready to receive them with open halal arms in accordance with Sharia.

“If you left  your country for Canada, and not for other Muslim countries, it is because you have considered that life is better in Canada than elsewhere. We will not let you drag Canada down to the level of those 57 countries.

“Ask yourself this question – just once: “Why is it better here in Canada than where you came from?”  “A canteen with pork on the menu is part of the answer.”

If you came to Canada with the idea that you will displace us with your prolific propagation and eventually take over the country, you should pack up and go back to the country you came from.  We have no room here for you and your ideology.

If you feel the same, forward it on.  If not, hit the delete, and prepare to be displaced.

Despite Fascist Dem Spite, President Trump’s 4th of July Program and Speech Made America Great Again!

TRUMP’S INDEPENDENCE DAY SPEECH

by Paul Mirengoff  at PowerLine:

It was excellent. Even CNN, in a report to which Jim Acosta contributed, couldn’t find fault with anything Trump said, although it took the obligatory shots at the event itself. CNN acknowledged that Trump’s speech was not political, but rather “a message of national pride.”

Unfortunately, the matter of national pride has become political. But there was nothing in the speech that anyone would have found objectionable before left-liberals rejected the notion of pride in America. There was nothing in the speech that any patriotic American rationally can find objectionable today. You have to dislike America to dislike what Trump said to the crowd on the Mall.

This includes the part where Trump listed heroes of the past and included Betsy Ross. As I understand it, even Colin Kaepernick doesn’t object to Betsy per se. Instead, he objects to uses her flag is put to. Or something.

That Kaepernick has the right to spew inane commentary should be a source of pride in our country. So should the sources of pride President Trump laid out so well today, including our long history of remarkable achievements, our advances in racial and gender equality, and, yes, our military.

As Trump put it so well: “Together, we are part of one of the greatest stories ever told — the story of America.”

Happy Fourth of July.

From Glenn….I also thought the President’s presentation was terrific.  We finally have a President who loves his country as much as I do…..who remembers his country as mostly  America the Beautiful, not fascist- socialist America presently being built by liars of the once honorable Democratic Party,  Adam Schiff,  Hillary Clinton,  Maxine Waters,  Richard Blumenthal,  Cory Booker, Dick Durbin, Charlie Schumer,  Carl Bernstein,  Alexandria Ocasio Cortez,  Bernie Sanders,  Eris Swalwell, and so on and so on!

I felt great today listening, watching the Trump folks, including the military wonderfully uplifting program…..making America Great again!

President Trump’s Problem Solving Challenges Enemy Fascists

Hugh Hewitt: Trump’s big win leaves critics sputtering

Because President Donald Trump emerges as a clear winner from his week-long confrontation with Mexico over our neighbor’s lax enforcement of its southern border, reflexive Trump critics will scramble to find some way of containing what is a clear Trump triumph, which came with assists by Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who conducted the key negotiations.

Already we have heard about long-term damage to trust between the North American allies, about investor nervousness and Trump’s unpredictability. This sort of flailing about to deny the obvious says nothing about Trump and much about those critics who can no more admit he played high-stakes poker and won a round on border security than they can admit that the president delivered a magnificent tribute to the heroes of Normandy on Thursday.

Much of the media have overheated now and, like an engine that has run too long without an oil change, have begun to seize up, stall, even melt. That Trump has contributed to the slow wreck of American media is undeniable. It’s a feature, not a bug, of his presidency to attack, attack, attack the media elites. And no matter how often center-right journalists counsel him to abandon the Stalinist “enemy of the people” rhetoric, he hasn’t because it triggers a flaming hatred among the ideologies of the left, with platforms and elites eager to signal each other that they are part of the tribe menaced by this Godzilla from Trump Tower.

Voters, though — not just the “Twitter Democrats” but voters of all ages and ideologies — are a pretty smart bunch. Assume for a moment that they know, generally, that tariffs are a lousy idea in terms of economic growth. Assume as well that they know that tariffs can be an instrument of national power in confrontations unrelated to economic growth.

Assume that voters know our competition with China is far more than an economic race, but rather a complex geopolitical rivalry that both sides wish to keep contained short of open conflict and that is waged through proxies, cyber-confrontations, intellectual-property battles, freedom-of-the-seas disputes and the relative size and power of our armed forces and those of our allies. In that context, tariffs on Chinese goods are just part of an overall negotiation toward a new normal that is in everyone’s interest. So “tariffs bad, free trade good” is simplistic. “Free trade is good, and agreed-upon international conventions are required for genuinely free trade, and tariffs may be necessary to achieve those conventions” is accurate. And widely understood.

“Alliances are good” is simplistic. “Alliances in which allies actually do what they promise with regard to percentage of GDP spent on national defense while not increasing dependence on Russian natural gas” is complex but accurate.

Hard as it is for the Manhattan-Beltway echo chamber to believe, sounding sophisticated isn’t actually being sophisticated. Trump’s record is mixed, but not this week. This week, even as Joe Biden began to melt (the headline in Saturday’s Times of London online edition was “Democrats raise doubts over Joe Biden’s stamina for presidential nomination race” — never a good sign when the neighbors notice these things), Trump put together back-to-back big successes. Historian and classicist Victor Davis Hanson speculates that Trump’s enemies are so addicted to hating him that, in a classic addict pattern, all behaviors are bent in service of the addiction.

This weekend and next week will separate the outrage addicts from the serious journalists. Trump would be very well advised to take this tariff weapon off the table with regard to Mexico. It probably wouldn’t work a second time unless the Mexicans failed to deliver even a halfhearted effort. It’s not the sort of threat you can use twice, and doing so would undo the enormous win he can rightfully paint this to be at rally after rally as Campaign 2020 gets underway.

If Trump invited Democrats back to the White House for immigration reform and border security talks right now, urging them to be as serious as the Mexican government has been about the border crisis, it might actually work. House Democrats passed an immigration bill last week. Senate Republicans could quickly pass their own version to get a joint House-Senate conference with White House participation. Everyone could win: the United States and Mexico, the president and the House speaker, both parties, the undocumented in this country seeking regularization, and the desperate and easily exploited poor of Central America.

PIERS MORGAN: The real big baby is Sadiq

PIERS MORGAN: The real big baby in London this week is Mayor Khan – a petty little pipsqueak who’d shamefully rather mock and humiliate the President of Britain’s greatest ally than honor the D-Day heroes of both our nations

This week, we commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, the largest seaborne invasion in history.

It was the crucial turning point in the war with Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, one that began the liberation of German-occupied France and laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front.

The D-Day landings: There were at least 10,000 Allied casualties, with 4,414 confirmed dead

The D-Day landings: There were at least 10,000 Allied casualties, with 4,414 confirmed dead

It was also the moment that most perfectly exemplified and cemented the special relationship between Britain and America, the two nations that provided the vast majority of those who fought the ferocious battle on the beaches.

There were at least 10,000 Allied casualties, with 4,414 confirmed dead.

They, along with everyone who took part in D-Day, will be remembered in a special ceremony in Portsmouth on the south coast of England on Wednesday, attended by the Queen, President Trump and 300 veterans.

That is why Trump has come to Britain for a three-day state visit.

He’s not here as a private individual.

He’s here as the democratically elected President of the United States, still Britain’s greatest ally.

As such, he represents the 320 million citizens of the U.S. including many who have personal family connections to the D-Day landings and World War 2.

Trump is in the UK on a state visit where he and Flotus are being hosted by the Queen

Trump is in the UK on a state visit where he and Flotus are being hosted by the Queen

So how has Mayor of London, England’s capital city, responded to this trip?

The answer is with quite staggeringly offensive rudeness.

Sadiq Khan, who’s been Mayor for three years, launched a series of savage attacks on President Trump in the past 48 hours, both in print and on television, branding him a ‘fascist’, a ‘growing global threat’, and demanding Britain should not be ‘rolling out the red carpet’ for him because it was ‘un-British’, adding that he was ‘the antithesis of our values in London and as a country’ and his ‘divisive behavior flies in the face of the ideals America was founded upon – equality, liberty and religious freedom.’

Mayor Khan also authorized, again, the flying of a giant orange Trump baby blimp over the Houses of Parliament during the visit, specifically designed to mock and humiliate the President.

By doing all this, Khan knew exactly what he was doing, and that was to create a firestorm of hatred towards the American leader and to whip up bigger protests against him than might otherwise have occurred.

Sadiq Khan  who’s been Mayor for three years, launched a series of savage attacks on President Trump in the past 48 hours and also authorized the Trump baby blimp being flown

He’s been joined in this unedifying campaign of anti-American negativity by numerous other senior British politicians including Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable, Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow and even by some of the media who should know better, like SkyNews who unwisely used the blimp to promote their coverage of the visit.

The politicians have all raced to denounce the state visit, refuse to attend a banquet in the President’s honor, bar him from speaking to Parliament, and all but condemn Trump as the worst human being that’s ever existed.

Little wonder than that when President Trump arrived in the U.K. this morning and read all this, he responded in kind.

British politicians including Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn (center), Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable (left) and Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow (right), have also been scathing of Trump’s visit

‘Sadiq Khan,’ he tweeted, ‘who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London has been foolishly ‘nasty’ to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me. Khan reminds me very much of our dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job, only half his height. In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom and am looking very much forward to my visit. Landing now!’

Predictably, this prompted an immediate roar of faux outrage from all those who had failed to be remotely outraged by Mayor Khan’s initial attacks.

Khan himself, without any apparent self-awareness, accused Trump of ‘childish insults’.

Yes, the man who approved a giant baby blimp of the U.S. President to fly over Parliament is accusing his target of being childish!

Of course, Khan knew exactly how Trump would respond, which is why he has spent the past two days attacking, mocking and goading him.

‘I don’t think much of him’ Trump blasts Khan before UK visit

Little wonder than that when President Trump arrived in the U.K. this morning and read all the negative comments from Sadiq Khan and others, he responded in kind and compared Khan unflatteringly with New York City's Mayor Bill de Blasio (top right, with Sadiq Khan) in a series of tweets (above)

Little wonder than that when President Trump arrived in the U.K. this morning and read all the negative comments from Sadiq Khan and others, he responded in kind and compared Khan unflatteringly with New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio (top right, with Sadiq Khan) in a series of tweets (above)

The Mayor wants this trip to be all about him, the tough-guy left-wing London boss standing up to the evil leader of the free world, rather then the D-Day heroes.

Yet by doing so, Khan is guilty of the very divisiveness, inflammatory rhetoric and childishness that he purports to find so distasteful in the President.

And he most certainly doesn’t speak for all of Britain, as he claims to.

Ironically, what the likes of Khan, Bercow, Corbyn and Cable have done to President Trump is the very antithesis of the good manners and dignified politeness that used to be the bedrock of being British.

Instead, given what Trump is here to commemorate, it’s been rude, obnoxious, self-interested and disrespectful.

Now, I fully accept those are all things that could rightly be said about Trump himself from time to time.

But that doesn’t make it OK for us to behave the same way or to treat the leader of our greatest ally with such wanton disdain in such a momentous week.

There’s also a sickening hypocrisy underpinning their treatment of Trump, and not just because there were comparatively very limited protests – and no baby blimps – for previous state visits by leaders of Saudi Arabia, Russia and China.

(Is Trump really worse than Putin, Mohammad bin Salman or President Xi?)

Sadiq Khan, as a human rights lawyer in a previous career, once passionately defended notorious Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has denounced white people as ‘devils’, described Jews as ‘bloodsuckers’ and called Hitler a ‘very great man’.

Khan led a legal bid for Farrakhan’s ban on coming to Britain (for his hateful behavior) to be lifted, and denied his client was either anti-Semitic or a preacher of ‘racial hatred or antagonism’.

Sadiq Khan says UK is wrong to “roll out the red carpet” for Trump
    ….

Sadiq Khan, as a human rights lawyer in a previous career, once passionately defended notorious Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has denounced white people as ‘devils’, described Jews as ‘bloodsuckers’ and called Hitler a ‘very great man’.

So his concept of who is and isn’t acceptable to let into Britain seems a rather fluid one, depending on who’s signing the checks.

Khan has also, as Trump rightly said, been an abject failure as London Mayor (even worse than Bill de Blasio in New York!) presiding over a terrible surge in knife crime that has led to dozens of young people being murdered on the streets of the city.

So who the hell is this jumped-up pipsqueak to start barking out insults at the American President when he can’t even protect our kids from being stabbed to death?

As a Londoner, I’m utterly ashamed by the selfish, puerile, virtue-signalling antics of my Mayor.

He has diminished himself, his office, and his country, and I apologise to all Americans offended by this disgracefully antagonistic welcome to their President during such an important visit.

But I say this to them: most Britons greatly value the support of America during World War 2.

Without it, it is very doubtful we could have defeated Hitler.

President Trump is here to represent those who enabled us to win the battle on the beaches of Northern France.

In that capacity, he deserves our dignified respect, not our snobbish sneering and petty partisan sniping.

As for those champing at the bit to protest against Trump this week, with their abusive placards, mocking chants, and pathetic baby blimp, I simply say this: the only reason you can do so in this country is because of what happened 75 years ago on D-Day. The heroic British and American forces (with the help of other Allied forces too) that fought that day did so to protect your freedoms.

So whatever your view of Trump, this is surely the week to park the incessant anti-Trump hysteria for just a few days and instead honor those who died and risked their lives in Normandy?

Bottom line is this: do we want the lasting images from this historic occasion to be of a pathetic orange baby balloon flying over our Parliament, or of a U.S. President standing shoulder to shoulder with the Queen to pay tribute to the D-Day heroes?

If your answer is the balloon, then you’re a stone cold loser too.

Kate Smith and Irving Berlin’s “GOD BLESS AMERICA”

    God Bless America

    by Charles Kesler at realclearpolitics:
    GOD BLESS AMERICA

The Star-Spangled Banner” is hard to sing. It’s not those treacherous high notes, however, that have caused some pro football players to take a knee during the singing of it. Their problem is with the flag; more precisely, with the notion that it flies “o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave,” rather than over the land of white privilege and the home of implicit bias.

Decades ago, Congress tried to change the national anthem to “God Bless America,” a song as stirring as the existing anthem but far easier to sing. It is immense fun to belt out those lyrics:

God bless America, land that I love

Stand beside her and guide her

Through the night with the light from above.

From the mountains to the prairies

To the oceans white with foam

God bless America, my home sweet home.

The great Irving Berlin wrote it in 1918, at the end of World War I; but he rewrote it for Kate Smith—the greatest belter outer of them all—and assigned to her the exclusive right to sing it. She introduced it on her radio show on Armistice Day, November 11, 1938, less than a year before war would break out again in Europe. She sang it with a special introduction by Berlin:

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea

Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free

Let us all be grateful for a land so fair

As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

The song is a kind of prayer, asking for God’s blessing and guidance, while giving thanks for the beauty and sweetness of this our continental home. Those surrounding oceans were not wide enough to prevent world war from finding America again. And through World War II, as it had through the Great Depression, Kate Smith’s voice “cheered her countrymen through the darkest days,” to quote the Los Angeles Times’s obituary of her. She traveled more than 500,000 miles to entertain troops and sold more War Bonds than any other show-business figure—$600 million worth in the course of the war.

But in the 21st Century gratitude has gone out of style, along with all sense of proportion. Of the almost 3,000 songs she recorded, and the 1,000 or so she herself introduced, the P.C. detectives have found two that must be condemned for indulging racial stereotypes. Fine. Yet somehow as a result, the New York Yankees have tossed her classic version of “God Bless America,” which they used to play in the seventh-inning stretch. They believe in “erring on the side of sensitivity,” they explained.

The Philadelphia Flyers have banned the patriotic tune from the beginning of their hockey games, where they put it (supplanting “The Star-Spangled Banner,” incidentally) decades ago in a desperate quest for victory. When they played it, they tended to win. After Miss Smith sang it in person, they won the Stanley Cup in 1974, and repeated in 1975. The grateful Flyers erected a statue to her outside their arena. The ungrateful Flyers have now removed her statue.

It’s not as though she ever donned blackface or a Klan robe, offenses which we know would shame even the most hardened Democratic politicians into instantly resigning their office.

In Miss Smith’s day, patriotism was a bipartisan affair, though a competitive one. In the 1940 presidential campaign, “God Bless America” was the official campaign song of both Franklin Roosevelt and his Republican opponent, Wendell Wilkie. Yet theirs was a segregated America, still rife with some of the cruder forms of racial prejudice. The U.S. armed forces that revenged Pearl Harbor and liberated Europe and Asia were segregated, too.

But that didn’t mean that democratic America and Nazi Germany were fighting on the same side, for white supremacy. To the great heavyweight champion Joe Louis belonged the definitive refutation of that error, so characteristic of today’s moral confusion. When he enlisted in the Army in 1942, a critic said, “It’s a white man’s army, Joe, it ain’t a black man’s army.” Louis replied, “Lots of things wrong with America, but Hitler ain’t going to fix them.”

When Kate Smith died in 1986, the LA Times declared that “God Bless America” had “transformed her from a popular singer to a national symbol of joyful patriotism.” We need to rediscover the joy of patriotism, beginning with the recognition that America’s faults do not outweigh the blessings of liberty—and that neither our sins nor our virtues relieve us from seeking “the light from above.”
